Imaidened mine on an uber breezy day, probably not as prudent as I should have been but it handled it like a champ. Ibet that 51 is a monster.

The Irvine 25 is adequate for the Sonic, Ieven flew it in a competition Sun but I think Iwill go in a different direction and throw my Saito 40 on it to see what happens.

OK, the Saito is oiled and put up for the winter. Idecided to try and get some speed out of the Sonic. Iinstalled my ported and polished Thunder Tiger GP42 with a pipe.
Iwanted something that was light and powerful. And Ihave never flown a piped engine before. That Saito was certainly a trouble free runner and made good power on the Sonic.

I have flown the Sonic as a single engine plane and also as a twin engine, twin fuselage (a la Twin Mustang) plane.
The Sonic, in my opinion, is over weight for a .25 sized plane. I forget the exact numbers, but it weighs nearly as much as a ball bearing .46 powered World Models Sky Raider Mach II. It does fly well and doesn't seem to have any bad characteristics.
For my Double Sonic, I used 2 OS .46LA engines. These engines and the LA .40 are plain bearing and fairly light. They are only an ounce or so heavier than my OS .25FXs with Jett pipes. It has been said that the LA .40/.46 are the best .25 equivalent engines ever made for a sport plane. I firmly agree with this statement.
My Double Sonic came out the same weight as a Double Mach II with 2 OS .46AXs, 7.5 lbs.

Duuuuuude!!! Thats awesome. Idont see any better value in an ARF anywhere. The 25 flew it OK but not stellar. The .40 four stroke was really sweet and got good mileage. The GP42 should be a hoot. My buddy has a Doppler program so Ican know how fast it is.
Betcha Ican get more power out of my GP42 than an OS46LA.

It was a poor choice at our local club to use as a combat contest plane. Most of the guys here are one foot in the grave, so it was more a crash festival and an exercise on hiding my laughter. I didn't like it at all. Flies like crap. I hear it's fun with a .46 on it, but so is any .25 size model.

Hey Jeffie, im glad to tried the Saito 40 on it, it saves me the time to ask/post since I have a Saito 40 and have been looking for an airframe for it. Now I know it flies great with it!

I put a GMS .32 in mine and made it a tail dragger. The twin is a cool idea but how does it handle with an engine out? I also added an inch to the rudder on mine since I like more rudder throw with the tail dragger.

I stalled mine on final and it went into the corn field. I still have the engine and stuff so I think I need a new one, that one was flown so much it was getting raggedy. I decided the 40 four stroke is the perfect engine for me on it.
