Throttle linkage setup suggestion
Hello all,
I'm putting together a .46 size 300 extra. I'm at the point of installing the throttle linkage. What came with the kit it a piano wire with a Z bend at one end and a ez connector for the servo. I read people like the Z bend, but I am concidering other options since (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm thinking that a plastic horn on the throttle and a metal wire will eventually wear and have a little slop later. I know I'm probably making a big deal of it but I'm also using this plane as a platform for building the next planes that will be of larger scale. After doing searches on this site I have read of people using ball links, first of all when they mention ball links there is no clarifaction of the cup and ball type or the ball that has a hole in it and permanently pressed into the link.
I'm thinking that the cup and ball type has a better chance of coming off the ball than ball link that has the permanent ball pressed in. I didn't like the idea of the clevis on the throttle are since the throttle when move move in and out of the carb (O.S. 55) and it has no off axis play. What I'm considering at the moment is using the sullivan golden rod with the permanent ball links at both ends and I'd have a litte adjustment in the ball link threads. I'd appreciate any advice, opinions, and suggestions on my thoughts and hopefully you could tell me of your linkage methods.
Thanks for all you help,
Pat

Throttle arms don't wear in my experience as fast as Z bends crack. I use the clevis and flex cable from Dubro. I'm not a fan of ez connectors on control surfaces. The nylon lock on the bottom is a joke, I'd toss them out. The metal ones if you punch it on, do well.

I'm careful to thread lock everything and tighten the screws down firmly.
When in doubt I may back the connector with an additional small wheel collar for safety, while retaining the ability to easily adjust the linkages.
However I do primarily use the metal star retainers as you've said. The only way to remove them is to cut them off.
That said I've used the nylon retainers on less important controls... e.g. flaps or throttle and I've never had a one loosen or come off if properly installed.

I agree with speedracer about the ball joint. I use it on all of my planes, but I think a better choice that I use is Du-Bro part number 190, because it has a 0-80 threaded shaft and nut that fits in the throttle arm with no drilling. Every thing else is the same.
