Horizon Pitts S-2B 50-60 cc
Recently purchased a Pitts special and after some assembly I’ve began the process of putting in the horizontal stabilizer. Before I glued it I checked the incidence and the top wing/ bottom wing are exactly 0 degrees but the stabilizer is 1.5 degree positive. Even when I remove the stabilizer from the saddle the slot cut in the fuselage still measures positive. Some of you biplane experts help me here, is this ok or my way of thinking it should 0 also.

I'm certain that it was designed to have positive incidence in the stab. It's done to supposedly counteract the drag of the upper wing being above the center of thrust. Not exactly the way I would have gone about it. Being that the wings are symmetrical they need to fly at a positive AOA to generate lift. This somewhat goes against the positive stab incidence. All of my bipes are set up with the thrust line , top wing and stab at zero. The bottom wing is set to 1 degree positive. This reduces the drag of the top wing and helps eliminate the pitch up under power.

I really thank you for your advice, this is one of only 4 biplanes I’ve had even though I’ve been building a long time. I always 0 everything and this was puzzling to me. The final check was with a helicopter pitch gauge that is a little more accurate and the results were stabilizer is .8 degree positive and with your advice I’ve decided to glue it in and hope for the best. Thanks again!
