Thanks W1, So no need to worry about the extra weight of the glass and paint. That's great! Getting ready to fly her.. This should be fun!

Rino, no I don't have any pics sorry.

dawhale,

I would love to see that carbon reinforcement. I was just about to work something with bass wood. Click the post replay button at the bottom left of the last comment and then in the border on the bottom of the reply text-box there is a link that says "Click here to upload images and files". You can browse to your desktop from there.

Carbon might be a great option. I would love to see what you were able to do. Basically, I have in mind to reinforce both the front and rear spar. I'm just not sure how to make the bend and how to get around the retracts.

Thanks,

rino

I flew a bunch of circuts and did two landings on one tank of gas. I forgot my timer and didn't want to deadstick on a plane i'm not used to. In comparison to the H9 Hellcat and P-51 "Marie" this corsair is more sensitive on the elevater and Ailerons. I'll add more Expo. One thing it has in common with the Hellcat and P-51 is that they all float in nice on landings. I had no trouble with the stock retracts, I was expecting it though from reading this thread.
I'm going to try to go this eve when it's cooler and fly fly fly.. It looks so cool in the air!

W1, I bet yours looks awesome in the air!

hello all,
my H9 Corsair has an OS FS 110 and retractable landing gear Century Jet wheels Robart .
I never had any problems with the landing gear.
In the air and fabulous!

rino, back somewhere in this thread there are pics someone posted showing how to use fiberglass and epoxy to strengthen the spar at the retract location. That's basically what I did.

Could someone please quote me the weight of the H9 corsair 60 wing unmodified? I put flaps in mine & I want to check how much weight was added.

I measured 1,6 kg including LADO retracts, robostruts and 3,75" robart scale wheels. Rough guess would be 1,2 kg w/o landing gear.

Excellent! Really nice work on the weathering.

Two comments, the white on the prop should only be on the front of the blades as the pilots used to get air sick watching the white or yellow circle while flying.

Also you need a pilot!!!

Thank you for kind words of encouragement, I will order a couple of pilots including one for the [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=629292&page=70#post21807075]P-40 I am painting[/link]

On your other point are you sure? I have some evidence of prop tip paint on the pilot side

I used the century jets ww2 1/7 scale pilot that I painted for my corsair.Iniially the corsairs had both sides of the blades painted but the pilots complained about falling asleep or getting airsick after staring at the prop during flight. That resulted in in the paint being removed from the rear of the blades.. Strictly speaking you are right....

Interesting fact!

Pappy Boyington mentions in his book that he made a kind of auto-pilot device using strings and rubber bands to attach the stick to the cockpit so he could doze during long cruises.

I can't tell if his sleepiness was from the prop or he was dozing off his hangover

Drube, how is your Corsair going?

Is that a 1/7 pilot bust or full body?

Judging from the dimensions on their site, only the [link=http://centuryjet.com/product_info.php/cPath/46_38_36_31/products_id/33]Cen Jet 1/9 full body pilot[/link] will fit my cockpit

I used the 1/8 USAAF full pilot figure from vailly aviation, comes unpainted. Also used the Topflite cockpit Kit. Not having much luck with the plane though. Crashed 3 times In 22 flights.Twice while landing, It just decided to drop a wing for no apparent reason.Didnt seem that slow. The wing tip hit the ground and broke in half at the Weak point, where the spar gets narrow for the undercarriage. The scale of Damage to the wing was alot more than what you would expect from this sort of mishap due to the weak points in the main spar. The plane weighs ten pounds, a bit heavy probably. I installed flaps and have a DLE 20 Gas Engine. I'm in the process of repairing the wing for the third time, I'll reinforce the wing as shown in an earlier thread posted by craig RCU so that if I have another wing tip hitting the ground the damage might not be as bad.

I cant find the replacement wheel wells in stock anywhere. Have Hangar 9 discontinued the Corsair 60?

I used the crntury jets 1/7 ww2 american pilot. http://centuryjet.com/product_info.p...products_id/39 I also used the topflite corsair cockpit kit. They are really easy to paint and make a big difference to the look.

Shane
Great looking pilot!

I installed larger scale wheels and thus enlarged the wheel wells and didn;t use the plastic ones provided with the kit

If you can't find any I could post them to you

I wonder if the wing from the recently announced H9 30cc F4U will work on my .60-size H9 Corsair. Appears to about the same scale. That would provide flaps and a more scale wing.
