Good ARF for a G-38 Zenoah
I have a G-38 in the box. The engine has been upgraded with an electronic ignition, coil starter and a muffler. I would like to know if there 's a good model (ARF) out there that will not break my (very small) bank account. All my models have been in the 60 size and this will be my first big one. I was told that the Zenoah is not a powerful engine and that it would be a good idea to get a somewhat smaller size aircraft (25 - 30 cc size) so the over-sized engine will compensate for the lack of power.
Your comments are really appreciated.

The G38's I have are magneto ignitions and have plenty of power and start right up by hand once you get the procedure down.
Yes they weigh a little more than some of the newer engines and aren't good choices for serious 3D planes but they last a long time. They are great choices for any warbird,or scale plane. I have them in a Morrisey Bravo and a 4-Star 120. You didn't say what you like to fly but as far as an ARF the Great Planes Super Sportster is similar to the Sig 4-Star 120.

Thanks for your prompt reply Bryan. I'm just a common Sunday flyer. I have a Four Star 60 with a Super Tiger 75 and it flies beautifully. I' try to stay away from warbirds due to their temperamental behavior (and cost). Just need something I can take every Sunday to the field and have some fun. 3D is not my thing either, just regular aerobatics.

The Sporsters are a good looking model, that flies very well.

I'd agree with the GP Giant Super Sportster. I gave a Fuji 34cc in mine and it is a wonderful ARF. Only complaint is a bit or covering wrinkling but the flight characteristics more than make up for it.

I have a magneto G-38 in an ESM 72" wing span Hellcat. Wtg is 18.3 lbs. Power is ok for scale like flight. The engine will work great for scale or sports plane. Look for a shorter nose because of the weight. It starts easy by hand and runs ok and is not temperamental about needle settings like some engines.

I would think most planes in the 1000 square wing area should keep it in the air well, unless its some heavy plane or one that has to fly extremely fast.. I used to convert some 25cc engines, and they would work with a slightly smaller wing area. It all depends on what you want, and your skill/risk taking levels ! hahahahha
Personally I have a G38 with a gear reduction flying my HUGE 1/3 scale balsa USA Pup,so much fun !
