Default jetcat spt5

Hi Kiwijet,
a quick question, do u think any chance to fit jetcat spt5 in ? i know weight has one issue and i ll need to lower the rpm on turbine , i know its big for this plane , but as a size , do you think it ll fit in ?

after u installed wren44 what s the total weight with or without fuel ? how big tank u used ?

thanks

I think the spt5 is probably a step to far for this airframe both in size/weight and power but as you say power can be limited!

I haven't done a total weight yet as the TP is in another airframe at the moment. Tank fitted is a DuBro 50ozs which gives me around 8 minutes at full throttle.

Cheers

thanks kiwijet, yes i m checking all before order tucano from phoenix , what i see , wren is sure 650gr lighter than spt5 and spt is 4.5cm longer than wren , dia wren is 78 on turbine , jetcat is 83 , wren fixing point on firewall is 100 mm dia, spt fixing point front of the exhaust and still 100mm ... will need 2L fuel to be able to fly 8 mins . seems somehow it ll fit , than i need to decrease the turbine rpm lower i guess ... what type prop you use , 3 blade 22 or 23 ? 24 ? i m thinking height of the front wheel, so if i can use 24 prop or i must stay 22 ?

I'm using a 3 blade 22x10 going much bigger is going to risk ground strike maybe 23" max.

Kiwijet, how is the speed with the 22x10 prop? Wren recommended a 3 blade 22x12 wood which I can't find.

thanks, 2FAS

2FAS, the 22x10 I'm using is a Solo Prop the pitch is variable from 0 to I think 20" and I found the 10" pitch best suited the airframe I'm currently flying the Wren TP in. Pitch is always such a variable depending on airframe design, weight etc. The advantage with the Solo prop is you canchoose whatever pitch you like at a given diameter and therefore "fine tune" the prop/engine combo to suit your airframe.

The Fletcher cropduster in the previous post weighs 24kg and with the prop set at 22x10 flies it very scale like but vertical climb suffers! I tried both 8" & 12" pitch settings but 10" worked best on this particular airframe just to reinforce the point of matching prop to individual airframes, 12" loaded up to much.
Check the performance out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hjj...7&feature=plcp

kiwijet, couple questions again ,hope not bothering , as i m still wondering how can my spt5 fit in this fusalage, whats the dia of hole you made on firewall ?
and also whats the width between plywoods on sides holds firewall , is it around 102-103mm ? because my spt5 has mount around turbine to fix it to somewhere there and width holes to holes shows 114mm ... my other trouble is , right infront of exhaust i have 100mm width 2 holes to fix somewhere again, do you think on your tp ,right in front of exhaust has 100mm or 110mm width on cowl ? i worry if cowl is not wide there in front of exhaust.,, i m thinking to extend plywoods keeping firewall more longer til infront of the exhaust, but i need at least 105mm width on cowl, do you think has ?
thanks a lot ....

Leventx,
The Wren 44TP requires the hole diameter to be 86mm and the mounting flange outer diameter is 114mm the 8 mounting bolt holes are on a 100mm PCD.

As you can see from the photos there's not much more room to move... the reason the hole appears offset is to allow for the side thrust and maintain spinner alignment with the cowling. Based on these pictures and the diameters given I hope it can answer your questions.

Cheers

Rene

Manual Phoenix Model 1:4 1/4 ScaleTucano Volcano 1/4 scale 101in wingspan

https://robert6.app.box.com/s/y4nw1p...m8u78vrbatb92z

After reviewing the manual, I just ordered one and will be going with AXI motor and Vario 4 blade variable pitch prop with a 12S 6000mah setup. I would go turbo shaft setup but our club does not allow turbines. I have been flying turbines for 15 years and the turbines now days are much different and much safer then they use to be IMHO. You pound the ground now. I think they are equal on fire hazard compared to what they were years back.

OldScaleGuy

Good luck on that one trying to contact them.. It took me several try's before I got what I was needing. I had to contact the factory to get the manual.
Almost ordered the plane from AUSTRALIA Due to the plane was $500 but with the shipping charge it was a push.
I have not built a Phoenix made model before , so I am interesting to see how their quality compares to Hangar9 and TopFlite , ESM,etc

Hi Kiwijet
I had ordered this Phoenix Tucano 1/4 scale, will modify the firewall for Wren 44TPi.
Will you tell me the dimension of offset from center of firewall to make a hole for side thrust.
If you have a drawing, please show me that.
Thanks in advance.

JR

Hello,
the thread is older but now I finished a Volcano with the Wren 44i. Did any one of you drill holes in the fuselage? The intake of the Wren is inside the fuse. Where does the Wren get the needed air?

Yes, I put holes underneath the engine mount box and I also separated the air flow coming in through the cowl intake. The air flows through the cowl into the holes which are close to the turbine intake inside the fuselage. Let me know if you need pictures.

Here is a picture of the cowl how it’s divided to keep the cool air separated from the hot engine. It’s difficult to get to the holes for a picture without taking the cowl off.

Thank you. I did the same one. Addittionaly I dremeled two holes in the cover from the rudder servo.
Does you have pics from the inside of the Volcano?
I have little difficulties with the tank. How much fuel has your tank?
And to fix the wings and the fuse with the plastic screws is not the best way.
I put popnuts in the wings and glued threaded rod in the pop nuts. In the fuse I use butterfly nuts. Is much easier.

I attached pictures of the inside. The tank I installed makes it very difficult to install the front wing bolts. I made a tool out of a socket wrench that helps. I would like to see how you modified the wing bolts. I had the tank custom made to my size.
