Default Top Flite giant P-51 ARF-a question about the fixed gear option

Has anyone used the fixed 1/4" wire gear that comes in the box?

I am wondering whether it is actually adequate or just to say it's included.

I am concerned about the fact that due to its orientation, there is no fore-aft torsion spring really and looks like it could either bend or tear out the mount on a heavy 'arrival'.

You are correct on all points. I believe that the fixed gear is included to prevent someone from complaining about its lack, and being forced to buy the retracts. Personally, I can't imagine progressing to the giant scale fighter-level, and not retracting the gear.
