Default The Sig T-Clips 70 thread

I haven't found a thread for it so here it is. ☺

It will be out just in time for my B-day, hopefully.
I'm wanting to power one with a 15 cc or 20 cc gas engine.
Anyone else with an interest please share here.
Lets try to stay on topic.

As I was looking for a Sig ARF recently, I looked long and hard at the large T-Clips.

Since I was looking for something to get in the air quickly, I decided on the Rascal.

I'll watch what everyone has to say, and, hopefully, get one in time for next season.

I'm in no rush as I have other planes to fly,but I do want this plane.Hopefully I can stuff a DLE or a VVrc 20 cc in it. All my planes are electric and would like a try at.gas. I have nitro experience,but it's been a while.

I'm taking the opposite route. All mine are glow or gas. I'd like to see what electric is about. When it comes time for a T-Clips, I have a motor/esc that should work well in the smaller version.

Both power sources have their advantages. You should like gassers. They aren't complicated and I like the way they fly a model.

I'm looking to get more flight time than the usually 8min. you get with electric.
I also miss the sound of the I.C. engine and no need to worry about charging high mah flight packs,fuel and go.
My tx is fitted with a li-fe pack,last all day and then some.

Being old, 8 minutes is enough for me. I may fall asleep if I try to fly longer than that.

I know that you will enjoy the larger T-Clips. I did decide to order one, but I got the smaller version.

Lol. 8 min flies by for me ,literally.The aerobatics keep me from falling.asleep.
The power is amazing that these little brushless motors can make.
I recommend a watt meter if you don't have one for your electric setup.
Just make sure your esc and batteries are up to the task for the amp draw of the system.
I don't mean to offend, just trying to help as you said you fly glow and gas.
My only concern is that people have reported that the smaller T-Clip has a bounce on landing. I have seen this in the videos as well.
I'm hoping the larger one doesn't do this.

No offense taken. I'm like a sponge, as I have a lot to learn. A friend in my club made me a great deal on a new in the box watt meter. I haven't had occasion to use it yet, but that should change by the upcoming weekend.

I saw the landing bounce in the vid, but didn't realize that it was a common occurance. With my flying, no-one will know the difference.

My two 1/4 scale clipped wing T-craft's didn't have a landing bounce. You should be OK.

Even with the smaller version on the way, I plan to order the large T-Clips in the late Winter. It's a nice size and should prove to be a great flying machine.

Wish I could do the same. Its either one or the other for me, and the larger one its going to be, being that I'm going gas. I'm undecided what to use for a power plant.
It's going to be the Dle 20cc ra, vvrc 21cc or the OS gt15.
Perhaps someone can chime in for a suggestion as far as fitment and cog.

I don't really know. I have a couple options. My .91 Surpass would be awesome in a 7 pound airframe.

At that weight, electric is still cost effective, too.

The Surpass will probably be my choice. I have a .91 four stroke in my Kadet Senior Sport, and it's a blast to fly.

I don't understand the 4 stroke sizes. They don't correspond with the 2 stroke recommendations.

They list a .61 four strke and 2 stroke as max. I figure a .61 2 stroke = a .91 4 stroke.

I did misread your post.

If they aren't heavy, a gasser that swings a 14" prop should be fine. I know nothing about these little gassers, though, my smallest is a 26CC. For me, anything smaller would be a candidatefor glow or electric.

I pre ordered this plane at Toledo in April. Sent Sig an email earlier this week asking about a ship date. Their reply was that they will be getting them in mid August. That was a little disappointing but I'll just patiently wait.

I was thinking of putting an OS 70 4 stoke in it. But maybe electric is my future - getting older. I have smaller electrics but this would be a major step up. Much cheaper to put the 70 4 stroke in it but I would hate to cut the cowling. Then I could retire my old Kadet Senior.

Just ordered my T-Cips 70. Should be ready to go out by mid-August if Sig's timeline holds.
This model will be perfect with a 56 or 62 size four stroke. I'm not sure is people were serious saying they were putting a 20cc gasser in it - much too much for this model and the vibration would be brutal. If you had a light 70 size 4-stroke, that might be okay too.
I had a Hangar 9 Cub (80" wingspan) that was marvelous with my Saito 56. This model is much smaller and lighter than that, so a 56 would be more than enough. Once you get into larger engines, the weight (and tail weight) becomes more of an issue that will detract from the handling and light behavior of the model. Who would put a two-stroke in it anyway? :-)

I also pre-ordered mine at Toledo. Sig said they'd be here in July, I saw on their web site it would be August, then saw somewhere (not sure where) it would be early September. A bit disappointed in that, but the plane is fantastic looking. I'm planning to E-power it, somewhere around 400 kV I think. Will post again when it arrives.

There's a thread on the Revolver powered with a 20cc gasser . Comparing specs I think the T Clip will make a good candidate for the 15-20cc gas engine.

The weight of the Revolver isn't mentioned. Construction is almost certainly more substantial.

Like Chris, I would be worried about vibration, when using a 20cc gasser on the T-Clips.

The weight is there.8.5-9.25 #s.
This T Clips is labeled as E/G ,as is the Revolver, I hope it is built as well as the revolver.
I am understanding the vibration issues.With some reinforcing in some mey areas I'm hoping it will work.
We shall see as no one has it yet, otherwise im gonna have to dump the idea and go with the other plane..
Shame if its not built up to it.
