Got the 35 yesterday, wow that thing swings a piece of lumber. But looks to be a perfect fit other than maybe a little trimming where the lower lip of the firewall sticks out fwd where the muffler is. Only concern so far might be prop ground clearance, but initial flight was a 17x6 with the 20, I'm starting with an 18x8 on the 35. But if it ends up needing the recommended 20x10 I might have an issue. Can always go to a 3 blade. I'll be breaking it in this week. Wahoooo! Damn its hard to find Lawnboy Ashless Oil, no one around here has it. Ordered from walmart.com, cheap and free shipping thru Bic Warehouse. This is going to be awesome I think!

Damn-got it ready to break in and the plug from the Hall Sensor by the prop-the pins were not seated and came out. Broke a wire try to reseat them. Tower is sending me a new Hall/wire. Crap. Also my first time at drilling props for the 4 bolts. Got a drill press and a jig. But you still have to enlarge the center hole in the prop to fit the jig. Room for error there....Got the wire connected and ran it, but it (Top Flight 18x10) sure vibrated a lot. i tried another prop (Xoar 17x6 I had laying around) , not much better. Crap, so much time on this plane...........

Mine’s finally all done ! We had an RC show at a local trade center this past weekend, so I had a chance to show her off.
The other picture is the reason why the maiden has yet to happen. We had yet another 2-3 inch snowfall this morning. When will all of this white stuff end ??

Looks really nice Joe.
Who makes the spinner?
Im at 10.2 lbs with no fuel. I think the 2 elevator servos need to go to get it lighter.
Would bring it to the 9 lb range.
Could also move thet rudder servo forward some.
Also trying to lighten up that tailwheel if possible.
And get rid of the carbon fiber servo arms, the way they attach makes them heavy.

Why a wider arm? I have lots of throw actually to much with the stock on.
I ordered a 2 1/2 inch. Offset servo arm for the rudder.
Been doing lots of reading on pull pull setups.
Edit
Thought you were refering to the servo arm.
Yeah the rudder horn is short compared to others ive seen, but i have no issues with maximum deflection.

Today looks like a great boring day to fix a coolant leak on my old Chevy.
Don't have a DLE, but am using an O.S. 1.20AX with a Bison Pitts style muffler.
Baring the usual mud pits this time of the year, it may be this Saturday for my maiden. Saturday at our field, it looks like a high of 57 with 10-15mph winds. Sunday should be high of 64, but with 20mph winds. I don't mind 20mph winds, just not for the maiden; which will need trim adjustments, CG tests, etc., etc.

Still working on mine.
I just ordered the carbon fiber push rod set 210 size with 3mm titanium ends to lighten the tail up. Im doing away with the ele servos in the rear.
Central hobbies doesnt have the 3mm ends listed on the web page as a package but they do have them. I saw them listed on the pushrod end page sold seperately so i called and they didnt realize it,so they are sending me them packaged set.
Nice gentleman to deal with over the phone if anyone is interested in going this route.
This should put me in the 10 lb auw range rtf. Fuel included.
I dont mind spending the extra time getting it to where i want it to be.
When im done i post my exact setup.
In the mean time please post some vids when possible for some motivation. =)

Dle 20 and a revolver 70. The plane is at 10.17 lbs and the motor is broken in. Break in should be at 4500 rpm for the first 2 gallons is whats recommended.

Well I pulled the trigger and bought a dle 30cc today at the toledo r/c show and will be selling my nib dle 20cc. Spoke with TBM about my issues and the fact that we have along needed to adid some much weight topti nose for c.g. and he sounded clueless as to the model I had even told the issues I had out of the box warped rudder and damaged elevator... etc. He admitted never building or flying or kit... but did confirm that the 20cc would be OK for more of a sport flying style, some loops and normal flying around. But for 3D would definitely need more motor. Would maybe hover with the 20cc but not be able to powe pull out from a hover. So that's what made me decide to go with a 30cc and 18 x 8 xoar pipe. Got it for $30 less then the tower price of 254 and got to taje home today plus a free prop drill guide. Could of gotten a rcg 32 cc for $204 out the door but wou L don't have it for a couple weeks. Hopefully I don't have to cut away much more of the cowl. Once I mount the motor and re-c.g. plane I will post more pics. And new auw.

Good news-the 35RA fits perfectly. I maybe could have cut the cowl a little less but i wanted the airflow over the head. I will need to shim the standoffs 1/8", the thrust washer is flush with the cowl now, and my 35 moves around a bit on the test stand at a certain rpm range coming up off idle. So far I'm not a big fan of drilling these $$$ props, as the center hole does not match the guide and I'm not sure even with a drill press that I'm not buggering up the hole as I enlarge it. There are some places that will pre-drill props for you. ValleyView shows the 30, and http://www.justmodelprops.com/. I know you can convert to a single hole but it adds a lot of weight. I had to trim the lower lip of the motor box a little for muffler clearance, but it's not a structural area. I will know how the balance comes out pretty soon, it should be good. So long *&^%$# pound of lead!!! And thanks for posting about TBM's complete lack of knowledge on their product-we all knew it.

Today was “Happy Camper Day” for me. I finally got to fly my new “Mystery Aircraft Company” Sbach 342. Did the maiden plus two additional flights.
Power is by a new O.S. 1.20AX equipped with a Bison Pitts style muffler and running an APC 15x8 Pattern prop. All-up-weight came in at just under 10 pounds 12 ounces (dry). Fuel tank capacity is 15 ounces (420 cc’s).
Initial CG was set at 4 3/8”. This CG setting turned out to be perfect for my flying style. The new 1.20 started on the first attempt and ran flawlessly. I left it slightly rich for the initial break-in.
On the first flight it needed zero trim changes..........I was really happy about that.
I did my typical CG tests using both 45 degree power-on uplines and power-down downlines. With the initial CG set at 4 3/8 inches, it had a very small tendency to fly slightly tail heavy.
I then tried some inverted flying and all she need was a little push of down elevator to keep her level. Now I’m a “Really Happy Camper”.
I also did a stall test. Here is where she has a tendency to gently drop the left wing.........nothing severe, and the stall is easily recoverable.
My initial high-rate setting on the ailerons is 1 1/2 inches up and 1 1/2 inches down. This high-rate setting was allowing for an approximate 2 1/2 rolls per second........wow. For future flights I’ll
probably tone down the aileron settings.
Watch the elevator throws.........flying it becomes very touchy with anything over 1/2 inch. You 3D guys will like using heavy elevator throws, but I fly mostly pattern style maneuvers. I wound up dropping the initial elevator throws down to 1/2 both up and down.
Large rudder throws made for some very nice stall turns.
My first landing was a little messy, but the next two were very nice and uneventful. On the third landing I was able to float her in.
Also, don’t worry about almost 11 pounds of weight as she doesn’t seem to mind it at all.
I have a 70” Great Planes Revolver in my hangar. My new “Mystery Aircraft Company” Sbach flies almost identical to the Revolver.
Any bad points ? As I was flying I thought I saw different colored butterflies fluttering down. The butterflies turned out to be the cheap numbers and letters peeling off.

Damn, no posts in weeks. Where is everyone? Anyway I FG my firewall and should start making progress on the 35RA model. I ended up adding another piece of ply to the front of the firewall and removed the washers that I had on the standoffs for prop spacing, and then FG the whole front end. Choke is figured out, and throttle mostly. FG pics-

Im in Fl. for 10 days. No work being done on the sbach.
For anyone looking for another option for a motor I came across a thread where someone mentioned a rccgf 20 thats actually a 26cc. Its 3 oz heavier and almost the power of a 30. I havent been able to find it though.
May have to call the dealer. Bp hobbies has many listed, so im not sure which one it is..
I tried to go with a pusrod for the rudder from the stock servo position and it didn't work out too well. I enlarged the hole where the cable comes out of the fuse, but the diameter cf rod i used(.210) was binding up. I would of had to cut the front and back formers of that area. Way to much work for me,so i closed up the hole went out and bought 45lb wire leader and crimps. Back to pull pull. Im looking into a single rudder tray. I dont like the tension directly on the servo spline but for now it'll do.
I also need to get some more fuel tubing for the vent line and the right size/weight battery to balance.
