I was just on the Horizon website to have a look at the 120 Spacewalker and noticed that they have dropped all but two of the Seagull ARF's . Is the ARF marker really that bad right now?

Okay, now I understand why Seagull Models were all over the Sig website. I checked it out this last weekend, and was surprised to see. Apparently, Seagull meets Sig's criteria. Hope it works out for 'em!

If you go to Tower's site and click on the Seagull kit of choice, then go to tech notes down below, look who's address is posted (Sig's).

I would guess Sig is now the Seagull importer/distributor.

In addition to Tower selling the Seagull line, Tower will also be selling the Sig line of kits and ARFs.

I always thought is was a good balance with Tower and Phoenix and Horizon and Seagull for the value lines of ARF. I hope the prices do not increase as a result of Tower carrying both of the top value lines of ARF.

If I remember right ( Oh boy, that's risky), although not in stock yet, I think Tower has their prices listed for Sig and Seagull models. Go to the Tower Hobbies site and check and compare prices.

Seagull had a lot more ARFs than Sig is carrying. The Zlin 50 and the Sport Cruiser come to mind. There are a lot of others too

Or Sig meets Seagulls crieria, maybe Seagull thought Horizon didn't promote their products as well in the US as their own they would do better in the US with a different distributor. Happens all the time manufacturers changing distributor.

This brings up a question: What are the rankings, among consumers, of the various ARF manufacturers? I have owned and built several E-flite and Parkzone ARFs (both Horizon Hobby brands) and have found them pretty good, but with one or two annoyances (wrong or poorly made parts) in a couple of them. I notice Nitroplanes advertises a long list of discontinued items. What about Tower Hobbies? Any others to look at?

Horizon Hobbies seems to have stopped dealing with support issues via email. One has to phone them now. I can understand the move to phone support because of a flood of and abuse of emails. Trouble is that for deaf hobbyists, phoning customer support is a no-go. I used to rely on email, which Horizon, to its credit, handled very well and very quickly.

It seems like an odd fit for tower to carry both Seagull and Phoenix as they are both very similar lines. 10yrs ago I would have given the nod to Seagull over Phoenix but Phoenix has really picked up their game in the past few years and they are for sure a cut above Seagull now. I bought the .46 size extra 300 last year and I could hardly believe how nice that one was. I am going to be picking up the .40 size Tucano soon as well. It is a very nice looking model as well. I would not be surprised if tower drops Seagull,l but I hope they do not.

Nice to see Seagull Models doing well.They build quality kits and for the money you can't beat them. I build many of my models but do have some ARFs as well. I have the .40 size Edge 540, 1.80 size Edge 540, Extra 260 1.80 size all are good planes fly well. Sig will be the main distributor. I hope and believe they will be around for many years, they continue to broaden their line of models.

The Zlin and Spacewalker are both on the Tower site, there's also a Savage Cruiser and Savage Cruiser float kit, dunno if thats the Sport Cruiser you're referencing.

The "Sport Cruiser" is a scale (maybe semi-scale??) model of a European built low wing 2 place LSA (Light sport aircraft). It is very sleek and modern looking. The Savage Cruiser is a high wing taildragger in the "Cub" mold, but not an actual full scale aircraft.

Do the Seagull models typically come with pre-hinged (glued and/or pinned) control surfaces? I'm particularly interested in the 60 size Edge 540.

No they do not they come with the fabric hinges that you must glue with ca. on that model you are looking at will have fabric I built the .40 size edge. The 78' wingspan Edge 540 came with the metal pinned hinges of course must be glued as well with epoxy.

Thanks for the input Fs. How do you like that .40 sized Edge? Have you flown it yet? I like that one as well.... awesome color scheme.. (liking it now more than the .60 size).

Your welcome Joe .the .40 size is nice I built it last year will be flying it this year. But I have seen it fly on youtube looks like a good flyer. I own other seagull kits and all fly well. I would not hesitate to buy this size I am running an O.S 61FX for motivation will be a good combination.Goodluck on your decision.

I just picked up a Seagull Savage Cruiser 90 ARF, and after a bit of research it looks like it is a scale model of a full size aircraft.

brockettman, Great, thanks you the correction on the Savage Cruiser being an actual scale model. I see in another post you stated the wingspan on this Seagull model is 80", not 71" as printed in some info sheets. Two more reasons to put this model on my "to buy" list. Great looking bird !
