Great Planes new Escapade for DLE 30cc?

Been there done that. To make it worse it is bordered by a creek on one side and a pond on the one end. We keep a boat out there for access. The field was developed back in the early 80's. When it was first built the ground was very rough and hard on planes. Now 30 years later it is like a golf course and a pleasure to fly off of. "Timber"..........also known as "jumping plane catchers". I still can't figure how a tree can jump that high ?
My field is also loaded with many of that "timber" on all four sides. It's at a state park and we also have an abundance of *****ly bushes, marshland, water filled ditches and high weeds. At the northeast corner some type of a very thick weed grew to over 6-7 feet last year......try to find a downed plane in that mess !

A beautiful and perfect day here today, so I finally got a chance to test out the muffler silencers on my DLE 55 powered Reactor. I forgot to bring my db meter, but the silencers cut at least 15-20 percent of the exhaust noise. The guys in the peanut gallery all said it was a very noticeable improvement from last year and with only a loss of about 300 rpm!!
I finally got my DLE 35RA and right away did not like the supplied super thin constructed muffler. Then I picked up a JTEC Pitts Style muffler. What difference in quality ! A nice heavy-duty piece !
The I.D. of the downtubes on the JTEC are 14mm and this size silencer is currently not available. I'm planning on using a set of 14.4mm silencers (14.4 mm is the closest size available). The 14.4mm silencers will need to be improvised to fit the 14mm downtubes. As far as a noise improvement, I hope they work out as well as the silencers on my DLE 55.
Because the JTEC muffler is physically larger than the supplied muffler I'm going to need to do a partial re-construction of my engine box. I have been reading about the statements that the cowl is too short and the cowl mounting screws need to mounted right on the very edge of the cowl. By moving my engine slightly more rearward, my cowl mounting screws should line up very well on the sides of the fuse.

Getting close......brought the rx up to date (Hitec) and am now securing/shrink tubing all connections and cleaning up the electrical wires. Thread locking all screws and bolts as I go, a nice plane to assemble
and only a few changes were necessary. One was looping back the choke rod because it was too close to the firewall (35 RA) . I used the DLA furnished throttle arm, securing it with the set screw after filing a flat on the shaft and
then using a screw secured in the center of origional arm, long enough to fully grip the threads after a washer is installed, thread locker is also suggested.

The members use a Golf cart to transport their planes and other gear, It's surrounded with tall grass and has numerous pot-holes.................

I'm currently putting together a list of the extra goodies I need to finish up my Escapade.
To you guys running a DLE 35RA: Is the Xoar 19x8 working out OK ? Any other props you would recommend for this engine/bird combo ?
Will the supplied chrome spinner fit the19x8 Xoar ? I sure hate to carve up that shiny new spinner.

Im using a 20x8 xoar, been tempted to try a 19x8 but havnt yet. The stock spinner works fine with no mods with 20x8 xoar and a topflight 20x8. The Topflight 20x8 by the way didn't seem to have the power the xoar had.

This pass weekend I did a test between the Xoar 19x8 and the falcon 19x8 prop and to me the DLE 35RA love them both!! No mod on the spinner to make them work.
Next I will check out the Xoar 20x8 to see if the DLE 35RA like it!!

Im using what I had on hand which was savox SC-0251 MG on every thing except throttle which is a hitec 645. Those are plugged into a futaba equipment, 7008 receiver 14sg radio. For battaries im using are dual 5 cell 1800mah nimh batteries for the radio and a 5 cell 1600mah nimh battery for the ignition. It all seems to work great.

Same as me, I used what I had laying around. Two Savox SC1256TG on elevators and a Hitec 7950 on the rudder. Throttle and choke are Savox SC-0251 and some Power HD on the flaps and ailerons. Rx battery is a 4200 mah Life and a 2500 mah NiMh on the ignition.

Hey guys, got my Escapade together, maiden flight this last weekend. Since I'm really a beginner, I put it in the capable hands of someone with 35 years of flying experience to trim it and tell me all was good. I had a Giant Ugly Stik that I flew a wing off last fall, and I had a DLE 55 on it, when it went in, it broke the crankcase and head, so I replaced that and used the 55 on this.. The plane is a beast, and will hang on the prop with 1/4 throttle! My buddy says the plane is bad azz and has no bad tendencies.. I almost could not get the Tx out of his hands! haha
Had a few small issues, the guys, (and girls) at Tower Hobbies solved them ASAP!
Here's a few pics, and I'll post some vid as well..

Had to do some trimming, and use the JT Pitts to even think about mounting the cowl, also had to come up with the engine positioning on my own, but it just fits, also fiberglassed the whole backside of the firewall to tighten things up.
Giant tank!! My fingers will wear out before it runs outta fuel.. lol
I'm gonna get the cowl on for next weekend..

I just may pickup one more when they come back in-stock

It would have about the same power to weight ratio as when I had one on a Giant Stik. It flies real nice with a 30-35 but if you want to really have fun that is the way to go. The larger engine is much harder on the airframe and will shorten its life so it is a decision a person has to make. I for one know I had some fun with a 55 on my old Stik.
