Y'all,

Did some work on the Escapade today and I must say it is hard to do anything wrong. I really liked how the stab is automatically aligned by inserting the fin/rudder in place when gluing the stab in. Don't forget to pull the fin/rudder back out until the stab glue has set. I was so busy admiring my work I almost forgot - that would have been a fatal mistake. So far I am up to attaching the landing gear without any problems. I like the very sturdy wheel pants. Received my flap servos today so will back up and make those installations. Forward Ho!

I just completed the wing. There was nothing to it, no problems at all. I used the stock hardware, it seemed sturdy enough. So far so good.

Thanks, vicrider;
I just went through the hardware bag and I think you are right!!
I may start on it tonight!!! If I don't, I will have to play catch-up!!! Anyone going with dual elevator setup?? I just look at the servo tray and it has room to do this without messing with the pull-pull system!!

jet22b - I will be going with dual servos on ailerons and elevators. I almost always do this since the time I lost a servo on my elevator and lost the plane.

Hey Guys;
One more things that I found looking inside the wings. The Robart type are mount in 1/2" balsa block with maybe 1/8" of the hinge coming through!!!
Sweet!!!

Hi Guys;
Did some work on my bird today./ The wings are done. I almost went with the full span ailerons but change my mind!! If we do get the rain for tomorrow, I may have the engine install by the end of my work day.
Sorry I don't have away to post pictures, but I will let everyone know how it goes. I know the marking on the firewall is for the DLE 35 and not the DLE 35RA. I found that out the hard way on the 50cc Revolver!!!

I thought the dle 35ra was the only 35 dle had, I did a search and couldn't find another. I used those marks to mount mine and everything went fine. Cowl went on fine also. If you look at the marks on the firewall they are offset to the planes left side, and I assume this is to compensate for what looks to be right thrust that is built in to the plane. I have the valley view prop adapter to convert it to using a nut instead of the 4 cap screws. This makes the motor about 1/4 inch longer. This took up about any extra length the cowl had.

This has been going togeather really well and im very happy with it so far.

Thanks vicrider for the info. I was thinking they has a DLE 35 with the muffler on the side, but it sound like the DLE 35RA marks are good to go!!! Great looking grandson!!
Please post your flight report when you maiden her
Thanks again for the info!!!

Well, its mostly done.Just a few things to do, like tidy up the wires and iron down some loose covering on the fuselage. I will try and get its first flight in during the week, Don't want a lot of people eyeballing me when I plow a field with it during its first flight

Don't talk like that! The design looks very straight-forward. Balance it correctly and test fly on low rates and it should be great.

LoL, I Like to do the maidens by myself. Im already nervous (and my first gasser on top of that) and people watching me gives me the rc version of a shy bladder which I call numb thumbs.

vicrider;
She looks great!!
Please let me know how she did with the Top Flite prop.
I have 2 in my spare prop box, but, never use them. You was right on the DLE marks!!! I drill and the engine just drop right in
Now to start on the tail. Now to wait on my kill switch, and LiFe batteries to come in at my local hobby shop,
Good luck on the maiden and above, just have fun!!!

Thanks. It may not happen tell the middle of the week, need to put a few more tanks thru the motor. I will let you know about the prop but I really have nothing to compare it to since this is my first gasser. I was actually planning on my ultra hots that im building to be my first gasser but I saw this and couldn't pass it up. The ultra hots will be the next one up.

Hey vicrider;;
The grant revolver with the DLE 55RA was my first gasser and I fell in love again, with this hobby. In my club, we have a club within a club. I am not only a "Glow Head, but now I am a "Gas Head"!!!
Have fun!!

The weight of mine came out to 13 lbs 13oz's. The CG ended up being at the forward part of its range with out adding any weight
.
WARNING :
Yesterday while I was checking throws and setting up my dual rates I saw the clevis on one of the ailerons slip. The plane comes with 2 types of clevis, one that is threaded on the push rod and one that is soldered on the push rod. This was a threaded one that I threaded on the push rod, So I did use the right one. I took it off and examined it. Im a machinist by trade, 30 years worth. I know what damaged threads look like, This one was damaged, The only one out of the bunch after checking. I replaced it of course and im happy I had the dumb luck at spotting it. Do your self a favor and check yours.

vicrider;
Glad you saw that before maiden flight. I still may change all the clevis on my bird. I have lots of full thread 4/40 rods in the shop and I will go that route on the ailerons and flaps. A lot of my club members love to use the soldered in rods, but I don't. They say they are strong if they are done right!!! Thanks for the heads up on the stock clevis. My order should be at my local hobby shop tomorrow , so I will put them on my list!!

Use silver solder and the clevis will remain secure.

I like the soldered ends, for me they have always been very secure, have never had one fail, but this was the threaded end, It looks like the threads pulled out when the tap was extracted. As I was assembling the plane all the linkages were solid so this one surprised me cause I didn't catch it earlier.

I have a nib one at the house, it has an 80" wingspan & flying wt. of around 13.5 lbs. It looks to be a typical great planes ARF, hopefully built by Seagull in VietNam. If not its probably Phoenix Models built, a notch below Seagull in quality. Recommended power is a 30 to 35 cc gasser, however I have an almost new 2.1 ci Moki I plan on using. Could wind up a tad overpowered with the big Moki, but I guess that's why they have throttles. For full specs & video go to towerhobbies.com.

Nice looking plane! I was surprised to see an 80" wingspan - not a bad price for a plane of that size. Looking forward to some flight reports.
