I built one of the Green Models 96 inch GeeBee's with a G-62. Flew it for several years til the wing tube bent in flight. Tripled the dihedral but I semi-landed it and was able to salvage everything but the airframe. Also had the Pacific Aeromodels version for 35 cc engines. Sold it to a buddy after some minor damage after one landing. Still miss it the most. Gotta love a Gee Bee!

So I bought Jeffo's Gee Bee, but I'm finding that it's different from the previous PacAero and current Maxford versions in several ways. Does anyone know of a build thread someplace on the General Hobby version?

I sent an email requesting a pdf of the manual, but no reply. There have been a lot of changes in the Maxford version, and I suspect there are some in the General Hobby version but nothing that can be confirmed.

So, is the General Hobby ARF derived from the Maxford version? I’ve read positive comments on the quality and flight tendencies of a previously available model.

I really like the looks of this model and hope the quality(build and flying characteristics) are good. Looking forward to receiving feedback from someone who has one on hand.

I hadn't noticed that GH had this back in stock... I left messages and emailed them last year about a manual, as I have the kit as I previously said. No reply then, either.

The General Hobby version (if it's the same as it was when they made mine) is considerably different from the Maxford version. I don't recall off the top of my head what they all are, but I know the entire fuselage framing is different. The hardware set is completely different, too. I'll check back when I get home tonight.

So assuming the ones General Hobby has in stock now are actually the same as their online photos, mine is exactly like that one. Over at Maxford, they have gotten in a completely new model, different from both their old 97" one and General's. Looking at it, it seems a lot nicer that either of them, too. Of course, it's a LOT more expensive than Generals. Still, almost tempted to dump mine and go for the Maxford.

Mine's still in the box, so I can't give you much in terms of experience with it. It seems solidly built, and the fiberglass parts are nice. However, I will know more once I've assembled it.

By the way, the Maxford models are both listed as being by Green Models. The instructions for the older V1 there (still linked on the page, done by Green) are nearly worthless. The V2 ones were obviously done by Maxford, and are a vast improvement. However, I would expect based on the Maxford V1 instructions that the General Hobby version has equally worthless instructions.

Hi Rick,

The price of the Maxford Gee Bee Y is advertised inclusive of shipping to the continental USA while the lowest cost for shipping the General Hobby model is just about 90.00. If the Maxford model is indeed nicer than the one available from General Hobby, I would pay the extra 100.00.

I note that the page with the Gee Bee says Free Shipping, however if you try to check out, you'll find they add substantial shipping (in my case, to Michigan, $53.64). Every time I've used them in the past, they've charged shipping (although for the 1/5 Stearman I got from them last year they only charged me $15 for some reason that I don't recall).

Still, even for $200 more, the Maxford one still looks nice... and I agree General Hobby's shipping is obnoxiously expensive.

So I finally got a response from GH in November, and today they finally pointed me to a manual on their website. For future reference, it's . After a year and a half, I finally got it.

It's a pretty poor manual, but at least it will help with which linkage pieces go where.

I whish I could help but mine is the one from Pacific Models, needless to say mine is over 10 years old, it a very easy and relax flying airplane, I consider it like a giant trainer, it has a 61 twin BME gas engine on it turning a 22X10 Xoar wood prop.

Hello all:

I just ordered the GeeBee from General Hobbies two days ago. I do have the ability to post pictures and will do so and post them when it arrives.
I used to have the 84" version from Hobby Lobby but lost it due to a receiver glitch. I flew the plane for 4 seasons and was my favorite of the rest of my models. That one would fly slow or fast with super stability.

I could post assembly photos too if you like.

I picked up the Gee Bee Y today at the local Greyhound Express terminal. The box looks in super shape and I do not expect any damage was done as a result of rough handling. As much as it pains me not to unpack the contents I am too busy this week. I will unpack and post photos this weekend.

Hello All:

First off please excuse the photos taken in my living room as my garage workshop is being used for a woodworking project. Future photos will be a little better as my workshop has much better lighting and I will not have to use flash.

As you can see by the photos the Gee Bee was packaged fairly well from the trip from overseas to the supplier than to me. Packaged in 2 layers with the cowl and dummy engine in a section all its own. No damage was realized by any of the parts from shipping.

I am going to simply state my thoughts in two categories: The Good and the Needs Improvement.

The Good:

The paint finish on the fiberglass parts is flawless.

The covering (I am assuming is Oracover/Ultracote) has a few minor wrinkles that will be easy to remedy with a heat gun.

Construction is all Light Weight Plywood making it strong and light. If I find any Balsa I will point it out as I am building.

The Carbon Fiber wing tube fits perfectly in both wings and fuselage.

The machining on the landing gear and wheel hubs is outstanding.

Cowl ring installed at the factory.

Access hatch is huge allowing plenty of working room for component installation.

All hinges are pre-drilled installed but still need gluing.

Needs Improvement:

Each wing half is in two sections. I think a one-piece wing half would be the norm.

The factory supplied threaded hold down screws that hold the hatch in place look out of place on the fuselage. Several alternative solutions come to mind but I will give it some thought before I implement one.

An assembly manual was not included in the box. I did search the web site but could not find it. Thanks to RickVB I do have a manual. Thank you Rick!

I will be back with the build photos and progress in about a week. My woodworking project is almost done than to the Gee Bee.

Hey Paul, finally someone else to do this project with. I've been waiting two years...

From your photos, your kit looks pretty much identical to mine, except... Your wing panels are two pieces?? That's a big surprise. I don't think I've ever seen that before in an ARF. The bigger surprise is that mine are one piece... Can you measure the length of yours? Mine are 45 1/4".

I will do my best to clear time and space and follow along with you on mine.

On further thought, I see why they made the wing alteration. That allows you to leave the landing gear on the model, and remove only the outboard wings. On mine, I either transport it all in one piece or deal with supporting the fuse separately. Actually, I think I like your way better. Oh well.
