Phoenix Model Ryan STA with Power HD LF13mg servo's
I have just received my Phoenix Ryan STA. I will be using a Valley View 20cc gas engine with a 17x6 Xoar prop. I am also thinking of trying these Power HD LF13mg servo's. Has anyone out there tried them. Here is a link to the Plane and Servo's

Jim, I have an "adventuresome" spirit when it comes to trying new servos as well. With that in mind, those look pretty good. If you're nervous about a set of those, I've been flying a couple sets of comparable bargain servos for a few years now. I've scattered them over the landscape in serious crashes (as only a 3D wannabee can), physically breaking a couple of them (servos still functional, just missing mounting tabs). Have never had one fail though. An option, suggesting only because I do have some experience with them.

Plane looks like it might be a blast with 20cc's leading it around! -Al

Thanks for the reply and I have used those servo's also with good results. I have been using the Power HD 1501 servo's for a few years myself and then I notice these LT13's. I will give then a try but if they half as good as the spec's they will be a good buy for the money

Just curious about your opinion of this plane. I received mine a few days ago but haven't started on it yet.
I have a Saito 91 and a FS 120 and can't decide on which to use yet. The 91 is at the bottom of the recommended engine size but the 120 might be way overkill. I want the engine inverted and hidden inside the cowl. Too bad no one offers an engine between those two. I'm open for any opinions or suggestions?

Thanks guys.
I did a little measuring today and it looks like I can shoehorn that 120 inside the cowl just fine. I've always leaned toward a bigger engine because it's always best to have too much power than not enough. I 'm currently flying a Super Sportster 60 with the Saito 91. It's fast and vertical maneuvers are easy but then it only weights 7 pounds. The Ryan is estimated to weight almost 10. The 120 should be just about right, me thinks.

An update. The YS 120 just isn't going to work. It would but only with some major modifications to the firewall and/or the cowl. It's well over an inch too long and it would look dumb with the crankshaft sticking that far out from the front of the cowl. I looked at several options like building a new firewall and mounting it behind the original then cutting the factory firewall out to clear the mount and carb. I also thought about adding some to the front of the cowl and blending it in but finally opted for a smaller engine. I ordered a Saito 100 today. It is about the same size as a 91 which I have and I could make it fit with far less work and changes to the original structure. It should be plenty of power. At least I hope it is. I'm not looking for 3-D performance but I don't want a dog in the air either.
Time will tell.

Just did the maiden flight and this is a great flying plane with the NGH GT17 engine. I am using a Xero 15x8 prop and I am getting 8000 RPM. More than enough power. I will take a few pics later and post them. Did not have a camera with me. Hope to get some video next time out.

I have been looking for a Ryan STA this size for a long time now, I missed out on the 70" STA by Seagull, so I'm going to order one of these on Monday or Tuesday, probably the same model as Seagull,,
I have an extra B.H. Hanson modified Zenoah 20cc Heli engine I want to put in it, probably inverted if it will fit, Hanson says this engine will twist a 16X8 over 8 Grand
the back of the engine is a bit over 2& 5/8 inches square, can some one tell me the measurements of the Engine Wall ?? that would help !
thanks guys !!
