Default Phoenix Model Piper J3 Cub

Looking for info on this model before I buy. I am looking at the 84.6" W/S.

Default Phoenix J3

Looks for a review here in a bit....I just love mine! Powered by DLE20 and flys very scale like but at full throttle a bit more than scale

Only complaint was the wheels/tires; replaced stock ones with 6" Dubro; now it looks like Tundra tires

Sorry, but the post above was for the 90" Cub.....I wasn't aware they also offered a slightly smaller version.

I commissioned a CMP Cub this spring around the same size ( 91") and have fallen in love with it. Weight is 11.5 lbs, powered by a Saito 125 converted to gas and it flies great and sounds fantastic.

One quirk is that it sometimes has a mind of its own on takeoffs and I'm working at resolving that after finding that it needs an ounce of tail weight to dial the CG to the sweet spot that makes Cubs such a delight to land. I will trade the supplied tail wheel + one ounce of tail weight for an Ohio Specialties that will buffer the tail wheel and set it back a couple of inches. That may help with takeoff handling.

I can't find much on the internet about it. I'm just going to order it and find out.

I compared the 84" manual with my 90" manual.....many of the same pictures, drawings, wordings, etc. Major differences are the flaps (or in your case, the lack of them). I think I've now burned almost a gallon of fuel on this bird and have a blast flying it....did you know this bird can do a KNIFE EDGE! And now that I've moved the CG back a bit, spins are getting tighter and tighter. We had a good cross wind the other day and I shot a couple of tanks worth doing some slide slipping and landings.....lot of fun!

Thanks and yes I'm buying the 90in which has flaps. I'm into scale and of course J-3's don't have flaps but that's ok. I love doing slips and Touch and Go's so it should be fun.

I had a great day Wednesday as we had a nice 5-10mph 90 degree crosswind and I think I burned through 20+oz of fuel doing just that....

Just starting assembly of my kit (the version with flaps and the 90.5 inch wingspan). Wondering which size 4-stroke is a good choice ? First impression is that a 1.20 4-stroke might be a bit small/underpowered for it ??? Am now leaning toward the OS 1.55 4-stroke ??

Thanks. Bob
