I wonder if Chief aircraft still has the plane or if Greast planes can stop everyone from selling them I know tower hobbies wont sell it
Tower hobbies is the ONLY distributor for Great Planes ARF's. Anyone can sell one if they have one, i.e. Hobby Shop, 7-11, or the one I have NIB in the garage. As they say in the Military, Light 'em up....err...Sell 'em if you got 'em....

Your Saito 1.50 would do well in many planes the same general size as the GP Extra, as long as it's a newer, LIGHTER design. The Extra 300s was just old and heavy, IMO. I ran a Moki 1.80 in mine and was left craving more.

Look for something in a 60 to 70 inch Edge 540 that is built light. Your 1.50 would likely do very well in the new Funtana 125. It's quite a looker too.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds good. Who makes the Funtana suggested? Nitro has a whole bunch which look ideal for the Saito but are out of stock on each. Help!

It's a 69" Hangar 9, freestyle/3D plane. The newest, largest version of it. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...#quickOverview

What servos is everyone using. I cant decide I have 3 Futaba digital s9151s 132oz 19sec. I was thinking of using for the elevators but they have nylon gears. I also have two 9303 with 79oz / 24sec I was thinking of using but Im not sure if they have enough torqe and there a little slow. I have a new Hi tec 5945 for the rudder so Im good there. but I need ailerons, and elevators. I looked at the hitec 985 servo so what is everyone using on this plane

Wow! Long time since anyone posted for this bird. Understand they have taken it off the market.

Using Hitec 645MG for ailerons, rudder, & elevator. Fast & high torque. Little pricey but good stuff. Using a Futaba 148 for the throttle.

Curious. What engine are you using? Have you bought this plane recently?

Good luck.

Thanks Tim

Al those engines should be OK. The 220 is a bit much if it is a FS. Are they all four strokes? Who makes the servo? Digital? BB? Nylon? Metal?

The OS 160 two stroke, saito 220 four stroke, os 200 four stroke,
the futaba s9151 digital nylon gears 132oz .19 sec @4.8v
The futaba 9303 metal gears 79oz .24 sec @4.8v was thinking of using these for the ailerons

That OS 1.60 2 stroke should make a mean beast out of this bird..ideal! The Futaba 9303s are a nice choice.

Good luck

Your saito 150 should be enough. check out you tube, some one put a smaller supertiger in it and it flew great. He liked the OS 160 better though. I got a great deal on a OS 3500 and weighs the same as the OS 160. The OS 160 is a great engine though... I own one and had it on a couple of airplanes.

No I haven't read all 59 pages of this.

Anyone put a dle 30 on this before? Will it fit in the cowl? Thinking of making this my first gas plane. Specs look somewhat comparable to the os 160. Any opinions?

It will be a great combo. I still wish they still made this plane as the new 30 to 35 cc engines are perfect for this plane.

I flew mine 3-4 times last fall before it got too cold here in Michigan USA.
Mine has a DLE-30 Gasoline Engine w/19x8 APC Prop and it has plenty of power for this Plane.
A friend is an Expert Giant Scale Pilot and IMAC Judge and when he flew the Plane
he was amazed at how well it flew and thought it would make perfect IMAC Practice plane.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!

I had to unbox one of these that I had in my inventory of 30 unbuilt NIB ARF's, because I needed the box for another plane I sold to ship it in, (H9 PT-19). So now the Extra is strung out with all of it's parts on my pool table. Maybe I should build it. Here is what I have for engine choices;

MDS 1.48 2-Stroke (OS 1.60 equivalent)
MDS 2.18 2-Stroke (Moki 2.10 Eq.)
Super Tigre 2300
Saito 1.80 mounted on another bird.

Hobby King 26cc Gasser NIB
Hobby King 45cc Gasser NIB
Hobby King 52cc Gasser

I fly at 4,000 ft. altitude which is a 12% power hit right off of the bat, so what do you guys think?

@Ken Cz
Ty friend i hope so ,i see model in flihgt before iam buy ,yes flight perfectly

@Prop_Washer2
If u not buy engine yet my sugesstion is as my choice rcg 30 (3.9ps) and iam think that be equivalent OS 1.60 (3.7ps) weight,balance ,power almost same as sugesstion Great planes.I don't sure this motor is new and not try but iam hear that is almost same as dle 30. Iam early buy rcg 26 (2.6ps) and iam very satisfied with him but for this plane is to weak (iam think) becouse ima order new 30

I believe the 45 & 52CC gassers would be too much for this plane. The 26cc is about similar in power to a 1.20Glow 4 stroke and not enough power.
Minimum power should be a 1.60 2 stroke glow of more up into the 30cc gas range or a bit higher.
I am not familiar with the output on the MDS 2.18 2-stroke but it soundsl like it ought to be ideal.

I have been running a DA-50 in mine for quite a few years... it flys fantastic with the power of the 50cc and floats in for nice landings as well. The only thing I did was replaced the soft landing gear with a set from TNT which were much stronger (and a little taller to accomodate the larger prop). The original gear is too soft... if you don't make perfect landings it will flaten out. Even with a light weight engine like an OS 160 (which is what I had in mine originally). Just thougt you should hear another point of view.

I double checked my balance with the Fuji and it seems I was wrong. The balance seems to be very close.

The MDS 2.18 is a Moki 2.10 class probably a little stronger, about 36cc or more...
