I have used these before. and found that with tempature changes so does the throw on the elevator half you programmed. so keep a eye on it.

RE: RE: RE: Great Planes 1/4 scale <span class=
If you want to run different voltages for servos/receiver you need to get a servo isolator. Before I tell you what it is, I must comment that 6 volts to a receiver is not a problem at all! I run it in every plane I have! A servo isolator will do several things. Number one - what a lot of people commonly call glitching, is actually lack of voltage to the reviever. High servo loads temorarily drop voltage so low that the reveiver actually shuts down and turns on again when voltage comes back up. 3-D is known to pull these kind of voltage loads. Secondly, some glitching is caused by servo noise. Basically it's an electronic feed-back from the servo that glitches the reciever. The solution to both- isolate the servos. I servo isolator is plugged into the RX but completely filters all of this. You run a serperate battery for servos and receiver. Advantage - no glitching due to the above causes and the RX batt can be really small since a RX draws very little current. Servos never "die" they simply slow down as their battery drains (you're way too low on voltage if this happens but at least you can get the plane back because the RX is still working fine)... Drawback - added weight of a second battery. It will, however, allow you to run 6 volts on the servos and 4.8 on the RX!

Thanks Skyking4130, I appreciate the info. I think I'll go this route for my FUNTANA and my anticipated GP Gene Soucey 300S. Very interesting and new to me, I'll be sure to discuss best options at my local hobby shop.

RE: Great Planes 1/4 scale Gene Soucy Extra 300S
I am putting this plane together and am having a lot of fun doing it. I built a nice instrument panel out of old Tatone guages and other stuff and would like a good pilot to fit this rather low 1/4 scale canopy. Does anyone know of a pilot bust figure, already painted that is under 41/2 inches tall that will fit this canopy? I want a figure with a headset so I can wire him to the dash. Thanks for any help. I have searched all of the sites I know and most look way to phoney.
Thanks for any assistance,
Ray

Here's one from World Models.. I know he doesn't have the headset but he fits your dimensions.
He's 4" high by 4 1/8" wide at the base. I think I got this one for about $10 or so at my LHS.

I used Dubros on mine they worked very well. I have a very good freind that builds one of the top aerobatic planes in the world not allowed to use names sorry, he said they are fine but actually shoul of used the CA hinges that came with it. I had everything done except the elevators at that point so I went a head and used the CA hinges on the elevators his and now my opinion use the CA.

yes it is fine to use the C A hinges they actually are the hinge of choice in the decussion we had. with the wings beveled the way they are and the CA hinges yuo could almost get away with not even coverining the seem. beccause the ca hinges bring the gap between the elevator and the stab so close ,or the gap between the wing and the aileron you get my message and I used them on my elevator and they are strong.

RE: Ahem.
I was wandering what prop you ended up useing? Took mine out for the first flight yesterday was not lucky. Every thing was great all servos hitec 645 mg O.S. 1.60 everything first class dual lithiumion 7.2 batterys with dual switches .dual 6 volt regulators but using a futaba 6xa and have my elevators on a miracle harrness took off great flew up rolled went up to trim out the radio and lost ealevators. I had one of my freinds doing the first flight who is ranked as one of the top aerobatic pilots in the country thank god ihe was flying or it probably would be in a million peices now crashed but only broke prop and bent landing gear. checked everything out on the ground again everything is fine even did a radio check with antena down at 150 feet away no glithhes, book calls for 60 feet. ANY IDEAS would be appreciated.

RE: Great Planes 1/4 scale Gene Soucy Extra 300S
Just looking for some advice. I am almost finished putting my Extra together and found that the Moki 1.8 hits the cowl. Only the top edge of the head.
Is it possible to run this engine without opening a big hole in the cowl or will it burn the cowl because of the small area touching? A local flier suggested putting aluminum heat tape where the head touches. Does anyone else think that would work? Hope someone who used this engine has some advice.
Thanks,
Ray

Depending how tight it is. it might start to crack the cowl after awhile. if your only talking MM. then maybe you grind down the fin on the head a little for clearance.
Just a thought

Hey Marc, how did you get 45 deg's of throw on the tail????
I used the double arm that came with the hitec's and cut it in half...the arm is almost touching the surface.so its long enough.
im set at the top hole on the servo arm. and the thrid hole on the control surface.
and all i can get is 40 deg's.

Bodymann,
Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to try flying with the tape next to the touch spot with the engine head. If it starts to burn the glass I will use a high speed rotary tool and open that part of the cowl a little.
Happy flying,
Ray

are you talking on the rudder? I used Dubro long arms on those for extra reach. I think the pics show which holes on each I used. If not I can check on the plane for you.

I think I put in 1.5" up and down. I have the chart on the review. The best flat spins were inverted. However I need to push CG back a bit to see if I can flatten out a bit more. On the elevator (I have to double check) I think I was around 40-45 degrees deflection. 45 degrees is preferable if you can get it.

RE: RE: Great Planes 1/4 scale Gene Soucy Extra 300S
Hopefully my final request for help. Question 1: Why does the GP manual for this plane say that the elevator should be set at 3/4" up and down for 3 D? Also, do you folks in here who have flown the plane use the manual method of attaching the canopy? Seems like that method would allow a lot of air under the canopy and eventually lift it off. Thanks for any advice. My plane is ready to go with the exception of tying down all of the radio gear, balancing and programming.

I glued the canopy in place and also used 4 small wood screws for extra security.

RE: RE: Great Planes 1/4 scale Gene Soucy Extra 300S
What do you guys think about useing a ZDZ40 that i already own, on this plane?. I originally orderd a GP Patty Wagstaff for this engine and when it arived Fedex crushed it durring shipping so i reterned it and now it looks like it will be a while till Chief Aircraft gets eny more Pattys to replace my broken plane. Ive been concerned that the zdz 40 isnt big enouph for the Patty since most people are flying it with the 50 size engines, So would it be about the same if i mounted a 40 gas on the Gene Soucy Extra 300. smaller lighter airframe with a larger engine.? Of course i can just hold my breath and wait till the next shipment of Pattys come in
