H9 Funtana: Saito .91 or Saito 100??
Hi fellas. After seeing the Zak video of the Saito 100 and Funtana combo, I really WANT this combo. But I know that engine is OVERKILL. have you guys had any problems with stress on the airframe with this large engine? I plan on doing an exact repleca of Zak's plane with the Kevelar square bracing all the way around the tails and stuff.
With the Saito .91, ER said that he could hover it at half throttle and that's where he usually flys the plane or somewhere in there. Might have been 1/3 thrt. Can't remember. Anyhow, what do you guys think?? Should I go ahead and opt for the Saito 100 or what?? I've scrolled through the postings of the Funtana, but they really don't answer the questions I'm looking for.
What's the distance from the spinner backplate to the front of the cowl with the Saito .91? You should be able to get it about perfect can't you?? The Saito 100 can be made with a gap of about 1/4". Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated.

get the 100. the gap is the same but a friend dos a carbon cowl 1 inch longer gives it more suport . just get the 1.1/2 taller gear the engine is not over kill at all for some stuff your at full throttle.

RE: H9 Funtana: Saito .91 or Saito 100??
Hi guys. I know we're on the "cowl" fringe now, but I'd like to ask one quick question regarding the Saito 100 and the Funtana combo. Someone replied via PM saying that the Saito 100 would be the way to go because at some maneuvers, he said, you'd need full throttle. What maneuver's would these be? Wouldn't the Saito .91 accomplish this? Please advise and thanks for all the help and support!!!!

I can't speak for the Saito .91 or Saito 100 but the plane definitely does not need excessive engine to do aerobatic maneuvers. A guy at our field flies the thing electric with LI batteries and it will take off within about 6 feet and do any trick the bigger gassers will do. The plane only weighs about 4 lbs!

Well, I'm not wanting to do an electric conversion, but thanks for the info. That is amazing!! Only 4 lbs and is quite aerobatic on electric. That's just cool as cool can be.
If anyone else can help me out with what the extra power is needed for, please advise. I'm not sure that a guy would need it for anything. Thanks.

I have the 100 on the funtana. If I had to do it again I would probably go the .91 route. Many people find the 100s to be bucking broncos due to their long stroke arrangement. They are great engines, but on a light airframe such as this, there will be a toll on it. I hear the 91s are pretty smooth as 4 strokes go, and the 100 is far overkill anyhow.
If you are going to go the 100 route, do some reinforcement, especially of the firewall and wing mount areas... wing mount needs work anyhow. Don't know what Horizon was thinking in selling a plane meant for extreme aerobatics (blenders) of this size with only 1 wing bolt. Kind of crazy in my mind. Also, everyone runs accross the dowls loosening up on the front of the wing... needs to be brass tubed, but even more so w/ the heavily vibrating bigger engines.

Hi Guys. Thanks for the GREAT pixs and info. For those of you who have installed the .91 4-strokers, what do you think of them on this plane? Are you able to torque roll and exit full throttle? Thanks.
