RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
After several weeks of looing around, it seems I have finally figured out where to find the "Twist" pilots. I have a question for you all. I just got done building my new Twist 60 with a Satio100 but have not taken it up yet for several reasons, mostly the weather sucks. This is my first year flying and so far have used a Hangar 9 P-51 PTS (with training gear removed) and the E-flight mini Edge 540. I have enough hours on the G3 simulator to probably quaify for a divorce but what the hell... Anyways, even though this plane was recommended to me by the support folks at Horizon Hobby, do you think this plane is too much for me if I use it on low rates for a while?

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Are you discussing the OS 61FX on the 60 or 40 twist? And concerning the props for it, I've got one I'm putting on a Funtana 40 and was considering the 12.25X3.75 APC. I use one on my OS 46FX and love it on my twist 40. It flies plenty fast to suit me and never dead sticks. I was somewhat concerned using it on the 61 so I ordered a 13X4W IMAC. I've access to more sizes too if neither one of those works. I never even considered a larger engine on my twist,, not the way it flys with the FX. I'm flying more lately because I'm between engines on my Jerry's Big Boy. Waiting for the YS 110 to get back from Performace. Leaking gasket they said.

JWK72....the T_ _ _ T is my second plane as well. Since I was inexperienced with balancing/trimming, one of the members of the club trimmed it out for me in the air. Although I needed dry underwear after my 1st flight with the T_ _ _ T(kidding....kidding), I was fine with the plane. The Instructor stood behind me, kinda as a "caller" to make sure I did all fine. Keep her on low rates to begin with...take her up "3 mistakes high" and get used to her. She will grow with your skills..trust me. Although I own 2 other planes, the T _ _ _ T will always be in my house. ..You will be fine..make sure she is well balanced and trimmed, and you will be fine

Suitcase....I have the T_ _ _ T .40 size with the .61FX Although she flies fine with the .46FX, at times I missed some additional power, most often when I was about to get myself in flight trouble The .61FX has saved my rookie hiny several times, just because the smooth amount of power the .61 provides. If it happened that my landing was not going to work out, I just hit the throttle and the .61FX shoots her right up the sky..The .46FX is a good engine, don't get me wrong, but once you have flown the T_ _ _ T with the .61 FX, you know what we are talking about and you will not ever want to get back to a .46 size engine The .61FX makes the T_ _ _ T a whole other plane!!

JWK72,
I fly a .60 sized Twist. There is another thread here under the ARF catgegory that talks about the Twist, ansd some of the challenges with it. Be sure you read through it start to finish. What you will find out is you have to set the CG at 5 7/8" from the leading edge or it will be very hard to handle. I found this out the hard way. I normally fly them tail heavy for 3d purposes, and it was almost uncontrollable at 6 1/4".
Once you get it balanced out properly, it is a breeze to fly. If you have 75 plus flights on a trainer such as the Mustang PTS, I think you will be fine. Land with some speed, and then flare very 6" above the field until it slows down and it will softly set itself down.

7WK72,
I started the same way you did with the P-51. Its a cool trainer and it flies great. I'm my opinion, you have to be on your toes with the mustang, because it seemed with a simple mistake, you loose a LOT of altitude. The twist is just an awesome plane and I think you will have no trouble. I was very nervous the first flight, but after flying, it's a breeze. It almost seems you can get in the air and just do whatever you want to do. It recovers from everything so fast compared to the mustang. Did I say this is an awesome plane! It can fly faster or SLOWER than the mustang does. I spent a whole tank of fuel just seeing how slow it will fly. It seems that it will just not drop a wing, instead it just descends to the landing strip with plenty of control. Your going to love it if 3-D is what your after. I honestley believe that it is easier to fly than the mustang and my high wing trainer.

Dutch,
I use an MAS 15x5 almost exclusively, but remember I'm from a cool climate and that might be too much for other climates. (That's on the OS .61FX.)

The T _ _ _ T was my second glow-powered plane and at low throws makes a great plane to learn on.

good luck on maiden you will love this plane for sure,, It is as easy as a trainer once she is trimmed out and you get the feel of her.
Flight report 11/18/06
All I can say is AWESOME DAY, the weather was great,, about 40 - 45 degrees, the winds around 15 max,, I hovered the longest I ever have with the T_ _ _ T,, no I don't know the exact time,, but we had a full 5 hours of tearin up the sky, we had 6 planes up at once at one point, it was confusing and a blast, it sounded like a a battle was going to begin with 3 of the 6 being 4 strokes, we were laughing and just having a great time with it,, we couldn't believe there was no mid airs or crashes during that, and we went up with 5 planes 2 other times, God truly blessed us with a great day. no casualties and the T_ _ _ T wing is still wobbling along with the wobbly Fuselage, I just can't believe it is staying together, and it was in some serious heated flying against other birds,, and make no mistake about it,, the T_ _ _ T was at full power the whole time chasing down the prey, there is not another plane there that can out maneuver the T_ _ _ T,,,, If it didn't blow apart this past weekend under stress, I don't think I have anything to worry about... WHAT A PLANE,,, I think you just have to see it to believe it, Its blown my mind I tell you..
Happy skys are here again,, fly on all....

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Well hello everyone. The Twist that started this thread way back when has gone the way of many others, broken in half behind the canopy. I was flying her rather hard and got in too close to me and dumb thumbed her in. She hit on one wing then bounced to the other taking the tailfeathers off in between. It can definately be repaired but I don't know, I was kinda considering retiring her anyway and getting a 40 size Ultimate. I'll let her set a few days and see what happens.
