RE: Funtana 90!
I guess nobody is really looking at the Saito 100 as an engine..Sounds like most are considering either a 1.50 or 1.80 Satio..Same as the 40 size..Most either put a .90 or 100 in it...

RE: Funtana 90!
O.S. Master Here just wanted to ask some questions about this fine model, ok here it goes; What would be the ideal engine for this plane, I might want a saito 180, but that seams like alot and I'm afraid it will vibrate and then crash; (I basically want it to pull out of a hover easily.) Thanks, O.S. Master.

Just because it says it can handle 10 amps doesn't mean it can't handle more!!

120 is the smallest the average guy will use on this bird it needs that if you want to t-roll or have that unlimted verticle. look at the weight of the bird.....then add some

YS-140 sport should do the trick. On the 40 size I had unlimited and it rocketed out of the hover on a YS-63. A buddy had the same setup on his. A 120-150 four should do the trick nicely!

RE: Funtana 90!
I've put together an Arresti and Funtana 40 and I'm just waiting for warmer weather to fly em, I love the looks of the Funtana 90 but can't swing it unless I can use my Supertigre 2500 with it's Slimline Pitts muffler, any serious comments about the 2500 in this bird?[sm=thumbdown.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]?

RE: Funtana 90!
I'd like nothing better than to put a 180 on this bird, have one on the self. But these large block motors are going to weigh about 10 oz. more than a 100. How much lead we going to have to add to the tail and what effect is the total weight and power deferential going to have on the air frame? My inquiring mind wants to know.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

RE: Funtana 90!
I agree..There comes a point when the extra power is gonna be offset by the extra weight..looking at the engine weights the 100 weighs 550grams and the 1.20 weighs 900 grams and gives you .4 more horsepower..But how much of that do you lose with the increased weight??The 1.50 is actually lighter at 890 grams and gives .3 horsepower more than the 1.20...So if you want bigger than a 1.00 you might be better off with the lighter 1.50..

I'm curious to see how many of you guys have this plane fail in flight or begin to fall apart due to excessive vibration.

RE: Funtana 90!
I did not see the video but I did talk to Mike and he said he flew the protptype with a 100 and it did everything he asked of it. The plane is very lightly built. I have a friend who had the Funtana 40 with the recommended 72 in it and it was amazing to watch, granted he is a very skilled 3D pilot. He has a 90 ordered and he plans on installing a Saito 100 or a YS 110. His opinion, which I highly respect, is you should not use anything larger that a 120 on this plane. I have the GSP 65" Extra with a Saito 100 in it and this plane goes vertical till its a speck in seconds. It weights about 9lbs. I read the manual for the Funtana and it clearly states to not fly the plane fast, a 16/4W prop is recommended.

RE: Funtana 90!
I think if you dont go with a 150 then you might as well stay with the 100..The weight difference is considerable between the 100 and 1.20..For the extra weight of the 1.20 I dont think the extra power would be worth it..Then again I may be completely wrong!!! I have a Great planes Extra .60 with a Saito 120 and it weighs a llittle over 7 3/4 lbs and its ballistic with 15%..Unlimited vertical..

RE: Funtana 90!
My OS 1.60 pulls my 13 pound "wet" Cap strait up with unlimited snaps with an 18x6 and 10% nitro. With an 18X8 I have speed and unlimited vertical without the snaps. I think an OS 1.60 on a Funtana 90 would make a 9 pound plane absolutely ballistic. I'm worried about using an RCS 1.40 though, I think the gas engine would shake the poor Funtana 90 to death and back.
