RE: "New" Lil Toni by Great Planes

This bird loves the bigger two strokes....I used a .91 on mine and it flew great! I also used a macs tuned pipe "non muffled". It takes a bit to scrub off speed for landing so kill the power a wase out on approach. Dont worry about stalling too much...it handels low speeds very well!! It will also impress you on how well it tracks through the sky...very agile and flys like an arrow!! Cant say enough good things about this one....You'll be very pleased with its performance and handeling!
As for props selection it will depend on your engine choice...I used a 15x8.

Hi again, thank you, does the OS 91 FX still a good engine (well made) or I have better go to a OS 108 or any other. I would like the best 15 -18 cc stroke engine for it. I am not familiar with 2 strokes.

RE: "New" Lil Toni by Great Planes

I believe I posted these in another thread some time back, but I thought they might be useful here too.

Photos here show a Jett SJ-90L engine installation with the standard jett-stream muffler. Extention pieces are required. Dub can provide these additional pieces modified with an additional angle cut (as shown) to allow the muffler to clear the fuselage. The angle is provided by requesting the "Toni installation"

As you can see, the installation is similar to a few others that have been posted here.

Recommended props for a bit of speed from this combination range from 11x8, 11x9, 12x6, 12x7, 12x8. So far folks have told me that the 11x9 has worked out very well.

Of note, the Jett-Stream muffler and extensions shown here are sized for 47mm bolt spacing, which is the same as the ST 90. Just specify the ST90 and Toni installation when ordering if you are interestest. The jett-stream is also available for the OS91FX, but the custom extensions are not available for the bolt configuration.

The engine shown there is the red muffler is a Jett SJ-90L with the stock jett-stream muffler. Two-stroke engine.

The Jett-Stream muffler is available for the ST61 - 75- 90. In fact, they are available just about any 2c glow engine. For the ST, the bolt pattern happens to be the same as the Jett. You will see an rpm increase of between 600-1000 rpm just bolting it on (above the stock muffler) depending on your prop selection.

The Toni installation requires a special exhaust extension set. You would have to request those as well should you choose to order one.

Bob, I have a ST75. I like the looks of that muffler. From your experience, what is the noise issue like with it, compared with the stock ST muffler?

    Thanks,

RE: "New" Lil Toni by Great Planes

Ah...the sound question. One of the favorite FAQs

The jett-strem mufflers are slightly quieter than the stock muffler, running the same prop at the same rpm.
How much quieter? Hard to tell. Varies by installation, aircraft and prop choice.

    However....

Since the purpose of the muffler is to increase power output and rpm, you end up with that same prop turning higher rpm. Which will tend to increase the prop tip noise and exhaust note ... and the sound level ends up back to or in some cases slightly above the stock muffler.

One way to minimize any inpact, is by increasing prop size, to keep the same rpm you had in the first place (assuming the inital rpm was within the tuned range of the muffer to start with). Thus you utilize your power gain by turning more pitch or diameter. In other words, if you were turning a 12x6 to start with, you might try a 12x7 or 12x8.

    Gus,
No way. A completly different type of airframe and wingloading plus the control surfaces are to small, This is a go fast turn left plane, think midget racer type. Fun part is the 3D guys run for cover ( or ask for a turn at the sticks) when this bird spools up and screams by them at +120mph.

RE: "New" Lil Toni by Great Planes

I've got a H9 Alpha 60 trainer that's equipped with an Evolution .61 2 stroke. I want to pirate the hardware from it to fly a new plane--and I'm thinking of the Little Toni...

What kind of performance/flight characteristics could I expect if I made the switch? At this point I'm not super interested in a flying mach 2, I'm just looking for a fun ARF for the .61 that can handle sport aerobics...

    thanks!

    j,
IMO a 60 2 stroke would fly the plane fine for what you stated. The first few times I flew mine at "mach 2" I thought that it would never slow down and I bounced it on landings time and time again. Heck with the jett 90 I just couldnt get myself to throttle back, I was flying so fast and having so much fun. When I did decide to try slow flight man was I surprised!!! This plane will fly all day on 1/3 throttle with my Jett and still loop spin etc and float in for landing. Put in the 60 prop it right and go have a ball.

    Yeah,

    What Kirk said

Put your .60 in it, install a 12x6 prop, and have fun. The plane flys very well.

I am thinking about getting another little toni, I crashed the first one I had on maiden last summer. I am either going to go with a os 91 four stroke or a saito 100. Which props should I use for both these engines. I want it to go fast but I still want it to slow down pretty good for landing.
    Thanks

Is the little toni very aerobatic? Or is it basically flying around in circles real fast?

No that is not it. It really depends on your skills as stickman. Like said before, don't expect 3D manuevers like blenders and waterfalls out of it but you can do great cubans and other fun high speed manuevers with it. Don't even try a knive egde. She will get away from you in a hurry lol....if you want 3D get a funtana...if you are thinking 3D and looking at the little toni just stop and move on. Like everyone said before the plane flys great. It is not just a fast left turn plane.

Another option for 3D would be the H9 Twist, but I don't want to hijack the link or get off the subject.
