My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Just got this bad boy done. Next I need to fly it.
It's got a
Satio 100
APC 15X6 Prop
Tru Turn Spinner
HiTech 425bb on elevator
HiTech 625MG on rudder
Futaba 9001 on Ailerons
Futaba 3001 on throttle
The hardware included in this kit is Excellent. The manual is average at best. Luckily the kit doesn't require to much info from the manual.
The only thing I would like is not having the name painted on the covering. Anyone know how to strip nitro proof paint off covering?
It took 2oz of lead to balance

Hero huh? Hopfully I will be flying the plane soon. Weather here has been the worst.
It took 2oz on the tail to balance it out. All in all not to bad.
Thanks for the kind words.
I thought about the 40 and putting a OS 72 in it but I just wanted the bigger plane. I got a great deal on the Saito 100 ($235 new) so I went for it.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Well Furyicon,
I am looking for a new home for my Saito 100 since I crashed my Yellow Aircraft Edge 540T today. That plane was probably the best looking 540T I have seen, but I was definately NOT happy with the flying characteristics. Someone suggested I try Pacific or Aeroworks to avoid that problem.
I'd like to know what your Pacific actually weights in at with the FA100 and the 2 oz of lead, and also what it flys like. In particular, does it have much tendancy to snap out if you pull up elevator?
Thanks,
Greg

Any more or recent info on this plane. I was looking at the AeroWorks Edge but have heard some not so good things. I like the looks - even if you can't remove the lettering it's not gaudy like some schemes. As of this week I have a .91 saito and full futaba gear ready to be transplanted and was hoping this would be it.
Not interested in any 3-D just straight aerobatics - so any comments?

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Bob101,
I have flown this plane for a couple of weeks, and it's become my favorite plane. I have a Saito 100 with a 15-6 APC prop, Futaba 3001s on elevator and ailerons, and Hitec HS-475 on rudder. I had to add 1.5 oz to the tail for balance.
Great flying plane, with unlimited vertical. A little pitch sensitive on elevator, so I used quite a bit of expo. I haven't had any snap tendencies in the loops. My only scare so far was in exiting a spin. Neutralizing the controls was not enough... I had to add opposite rudder & power to make it fly again.
I think the .91 will be a great engine for this plane too. You'll enjoy it.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
I finally got to fly it this last weekend. Boy was it awesome! It was a real joy to fly a plane of this quality.
Since this is my first experence flying a plane of this type it went very well. I used the low rates given in the manual and the plane was very tame. Then I flew around on the high give high rates and it still flew like it was on rails.
The plane would slow down to a crawl in flight making the landings a sinch. I also tried it with flaps and that really slowed it down to a walking speed.
The Satio 100 provided me with unlimited vertical performance too.
I never noticed a Snap when I hit the elevator at the provided measurements. I would have to test it past the recommended to see what I got.
When I did do a Snap roll on I found that it liked to stay in a roll. It took some quick work to get it straightend out.
Fun plane and my new favorite!
Things I would do different on the plane:
1. Use a Cable on the throttle instead of the provided hardware.
2. Never waste one second on the damn wheel pants. One fell off on the maden flight [X(]
3. Find a good way of porting the exhaust overboard. I hated cutting up that cowl for the Satio muffler.
Enjoy!

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Question : Is there weights added to the portions of the aileron & elevator ahead of the hinge line? In other words, are they cosmetic or functional? I don't see the there is enough surface area to be an aerodynamic balence.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Wine country flyer, here---I've had my Pacific Areo 540 T 60 flying for about a month.New Saito 100, 14x6 (untill it's broken in more) then 15x6. Even with the 14x6 it has unlimmited vertical. Full elev. makes a nice tight loop with no snap. Comes right out of a flat spin. And the wheel pants--I put a little piece of 1/8 ply inside, drilled the hole out and added a blind nut with red lock tite. Ten + flights and not a problem. But I can't get a muffler extention to stay on. (lost three so far) So I ordered a side mount pits style Slimline. Hope that fixes that problem. My fire wall is getting pretty black, and I had to patch the covering under the fuse, then add a bead of epoxy on the seam. Other than that----I just love it !!! A couple flying buddies have flown it and said they will get one, they liked it that much. I also had to add tail weight, even with a 1400 mah bat. in back of the servo tray. About 1/2 oz. to the left wing tip for latteral balance. And it stalls straight forward. Just muches along like a porpuse and keeps flying. A little power and it's off to where ever ya point it. Pacific Areo came up with a real winner here. John

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
After about 10 flights on the Pac Edge, my stock alum landing gear has bent more than once on our bumpy grass field and twice the stock 3mm screws have sheared off (pilot error). Has anyone changed out the stock LG for carbon fiber? I'm thinking I will use the Graph Tech gear for the Aero Works 60/90 Edge. Its the closest size I have found to the stock dimensions.
BTW, thanks to previous suggestions, I beefed up the LG block with epoxy and its still solid.

Hey, i just stumbled onto rc universe, and had a question for anyone in this forum. Would an os 91 fx be enough for unlimited vertical with the pac models 60 size edge 540 t? Any thoughts would be appriciated thanks.

Yes it would. You might need a little lead in the tail though.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Hi, i recently bought the 60 size at the toledo show with a Saito 100FA. I started working on it wednesday and i have made it to the part where you install the throttle pushrod. I am trying to find the best way to connect the throttle pushrod using the supplied pushrod I was hopeing some on has a picture of how they have done it. the engine box blocks it.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
THieke,
I turned my carb around so the Hi speed needle is on top side and the carb lever arm is on the bottom. I drilled a small slot in the firewall to accomodate the travel of the clevis connector at the carb. I ran the rod along side the fuel tank. I used some foam and one of the supplied plywood pieces with a hole to secure the plastic sleeve for the metal rod, and keep the fuel tank from pressing on the rod. I chose to mount my Hitec HS81 throttle servo on the pilots right side of the servo tray next to the rudder servo. I also changed the servo connection to a clevis after the screw type connector that came with the plane slipped several times. Happy Flying.

RE: My new Pacific Aeromodels 540T 60
Can anyone tell me what size spinner this plane takes? I know it's not included, and when I place my order for all of the stuff I need, I'd like to just order it then.
Also, I have some standard Futaba S3004 and S3001 (44 oz-in of torque each) servos lying around. Are these enough for this plane for the ailerons and elevator? I'd hate to under-servo this thing. I had a 70" Extra 300 with an OS 1.60FX on it and put S3010's on the ailerons (72 oz-in of torque)....came out of a 1/2 cuban eight after about 20 flights and both aileron servos broke at the output shaft. I still have the 3010's and can get new gears for them, and I know this plane is smaller with a smaller engine, but still don't want to under-servo any of the primary flight control surfaces.
If none of these servos are good enough, I'll have to buy my old standby that I use for 1/4 scale: HiTec 645MGs.
Thanks,
Rich

I wouldn't use 44 oz servos in the Edge 60. How about these?

Could be a great choice if the price is right.
