Shubova,
You may want to look at replacing the stock wheels with 4" du-bro's. I also modified the tailwheel so that is not attached to the rudder but has it's own servo, slaved to the rudder channel I also replaced the stock wheel with a 1 1/2 unit. I have not had a chance to check this modification out (too cold and windy) but it should help slow the tail wheel down.

I'm setting my CG and if I thinking back on everything that I have read. The 5 1/2" that they say to set the CG, a lot of the planes ended up tail heavy. I'm thinking of setting my CG at 5 3/8" or 5 1/4". What do you guys think about that idea? What is the weight of your planes when completed. Thanks for any help

Doesn't GP (Tower Hobbies) sell them. If were I you I would call GP or Tower and tell them one is defective...they are pretty good at working with their customers.
If you get no responce from them. I may have mine somewhere...I'll look for them today.
If I can find them I'll e-mail you but you should try GP first.
Good Luck!

If you move your CG forward you will need to add more weight to the firewall? My suggestion would be to balance the plane at the recommended CG, fly the plane and based on the stability move the CG back slowly which will allow you to remove weight from the firewall.

I'm hoping to start my Stearman in a week or so, just finishing up a RC Guys Decathlon.

My Great Planes PT-17 flies great balanced per the instruction manual, which IIRC puts it about where the rear cabanes attach to the underside of the upper wing. I don't know if the white Stearman's CG is listed in the same place or not.

Mine was really bouncy at landing time and needed elevator correction to stop it climbing when inverted so I moved the c/g 1/2" forward from the rear-most recommended point and it is now very nice.

Hope that helps. It is a very nice flying plane and looks great in the air.

Tower does not sell them but I did call gp & the man said he would send me one. I asked how long it would take & he didn't give me an answer. I'm hoping for the maiden flight in a week. If they don't come through, I'll post again. Thanks for lookimng.

So the c/g is set at 51/4" ? That is about where I'm going to set mine. I installed a smoke system so I can move things around very easy.
I had read everyone had problems with those bouncy tires. I call GP and told them I was having problems and they sent me a pair of Robart tires. I did a bounce test and the Robarts were a lot better.

Shubova the dia is 4" "Robart low bounce model aircraft scale wheels", is on the front of the package. Upper right corner is a sticker that has " Scale Straight Trd. 4" Dia 118

They come with smooth hub cap for p-40, AT-6 and similar . Spoked hub cap for P-51, corsair and similar.

When I received the new tires I did a bounce test by throwing them hard on the ground. The Robarts were a lot better. The GP tires bounced almost like a Super Ball.

I Had told GP that I had seen other guys that were able to get new tires from them because the GP tires were so bouncy. I told them that I had read it on RC Universe.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Have you put them on the plane and tested them.
I had a pair of them and they are soft...too soft. They didn't support the weight of the plane. At first they seemed okay but after a few flights they would buckle and get distorted to a point were the tire was starting come off the hub. When I would taxi out on to the run way they would fold back and forth like I had flat tires.
I hope they work better for you.
I have met a few people that have told me that the stock tires on both the Super and the PT-17 (military) wear quickly and after I changed back to them the same thing happened to me.
I'm going to all GP to see if they have a solution.
Thanks again,
Shubova

On the package it says that you can get foam inserts if your plane is to heavy. I have not flown mine yet. I will need some for mine.

I just found out from my LHS that GP have them. I will call them and try to get a pair. They should have sent them with the tires.

I have a couple of questions before I build mine.....are the flying wires optional? Since they are elastic shoe strings I would guess that they are. Also, I read one review where the builder took the dihedriel out of the bottom wings to make it fly more scale....has anyone else done this? Thanks WC

Wires not essential but make it look good, if you remove dihedral your supplied N struts will not fit, Gary.

The best way to make the Stearman fly more scale is not to overpower it with a humongous engine.

The best way to fly ANYTHING scale is to use that device called a throttle.
If I have a spare engine sitting around with not many options for airframes that will take it inside a cowl I WILL use it. You do your thing, I'll do mine!

Hello,
could any of you help me choose a prop for the Stearman? I'm running an OS 120 III w/ pump.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks!
If the Xoar brand isn't available at my LHS, would a Top Flite or any of the others work the same (in a 16x6)?
