RE: ultra stick 40
I got a 60 Ultra Stick for my second plane and I have had a ball with it. It will take off in 10 ft and land slower than any trainer. Last Sun I was making landings using crow from 150 ft alt at the aproach end of the runway and making short landings. I will keep it.

It's a great little plane. You can put just about any put engine into it and it will fly. I've had a three engines in mine, and now a Super Tiger .90. It really goes up now... A great airframe to break in an engine, and it fly's very well in high gusty windy day's.
Soft landings always,

RE: ultra stick 40
A word of caution, something to look out for with the Ultra Stick 40. There are three in my club, mine being one of them; each developed the same problem. Problem is that the wing dowels develop a notch which allows the front of the wing to move up and down, which in turn develops a trim problem. Ultimate problem is that the dowels may wear enough to break. I assume the problem is some combination of engine vibration, soft wood, and poor fit between dowels and bulkhead. For whatever reason, the dowels rub against the bulkhead and wear very quickly. I fixed my dowels by covering them with brass tubing. I also saturated the area around the bulkhead holes with superglue. Time will tell if the problem, of just the symptom, is fixed. I have had many planes with wing dowels and don't recall any of them developing this problem. BTW, two of us also found it necessary to replace the landing gear plywood mount with better quality wood and more bracing. It does fly very well and would make a good choice for a beginner to fly after learning on a trainer.

Skate5290: don't let my comment about the wing dowels discourage you about acquiring an US 40. I believe it to be a very fine model. Flew it today in very gusty winds for our monthly club funfly. Wind meter said 3, gusts to 24 mph. I usually use a Fazer, but intended to try my new Twist. Once the wind got very gusty I decided to use the US and it did very well. It has a higher wing loading and handles the wind better, glides better as well. I am sure you would be happy with the plane. I have a Saito .82 on mine; tried many props today, decided on the APC 14 x 4W; same as I use on the Saito .72.
