Engine for GP Venus
Hi,
I am thinking of putting a Saito 100 on my new GP Venus
. Weight wise it is comparable with the recommended 4stroke OS-70.

I have a O.S. .61 in mine and I was way nose heavy. Plane is very light to start with so the added weight did not bother me so much since I fly in 10-20+mph winds most of the time!
And the performance is great!!!!!

Started with an OS 46FX and have a OS 50SX on it now. Current prop is a 11 x 7 MA but am playing with a bunch of different ones now. Changing props sure does make a difference on this thing. The the 11 x 7 MA the verticals were vertical, knife edge required no corrections (even in a loop), and down lines pulled slightly to the canopy. Changing to APC's threw all the above out the window. I'm going o find the best setup if it wears the plane out.
That said, the Saito 100 should turn it into a rocket, if you prop it right and I don't think you will run out of vertical, maybe fuel tho.
You should be able to balance without having to add any weight just by moving the battery around.

How is the balance on this plane?
I have a newly available (damn midair...
) Saito 72 for it and am curious how it will balance with this motor.
Does anyone think it will need more than an ounce of weight in the tail with a Saito 72? The Saito is 18oz compared to 16.5-17 for an os 46fx.

I have an os 70 and the bat and RX is in front of the servo tray and it is right on the back end of the balance point. I don't see how you would have to add tail weight at all with a saito 72

Bentgear - Have you done much more playing around with prop sizes on the Venus? I'm picking up mine this weekend and plan on using my Irvine .53 in the nose, but am not sure what props will work best.

Thanks guys. Are you getting unlimited vertical with that prop and engine combo bentgear? I'm hoping the .53 will provide enough ooomph for that stuff

Oh yeah.....one other thing. Any recommendations on building this plane? Are there certain things in particular that I need to watch out for or is it pretty much just "follow the manual".

Watch for the wing bolts hitting the pushrods, just cut the bolts shorter. Also, I think the cowl was too short given the recommended engine placement (double check before drilling your engine mounting holes).
