Mike - looks like you got a lemon. I saw one NIB and took a good look. Its a very nice plane that is very well built but it costs too much in Malaysia, hence I did not bother about it anymore.

Forestroke - you are just jealous, okay Forestroke only keeps small planes so he has this "small thingy" syndrome!!! Hahahahaaa ...

Please take this with a large grain of salt. The model arrived in Hobby Services on 02/07/05. All processing has not been completed.

Please be aware that until an item arrives at the service center, no action can be taken regarding any kind of settlement. This individual has not been refused anything.

Hi,

I finally got my airborne after the maiden was shelved due to other pressing on projects! After reading all the comments on the plane and some of the "panic" moments experienced by others on the maiden take-off, I was pleasently surprised to find the plane not only was extremely easy to build, but the quality was quite excellent too.

Got to the field this morning and the weather was bad, hazy due to numerous bush fires currently burning here in Malaysia. Anyway, fired up the G-90, did some touch up tuning to the low and high ends and taxied to the runway threshold. Advanced the throttle slowly and she gentle started the take-off roll. Hardly any rudder was needed to maintain a straight down runway run. In about 30 feet and at about 3/4 throttle (engine still new and running relatively rich) she was airborne!! Only 1 click of aileron and two up click of elevator and she was straight and level at 1/2. An absolute beauty!

Landings were a breeze, downwind at 1/4, base slightly below 1/4, fly her in to about 20 feet from runway then slowly reduce to about 1 or 2 clicks above idle, let her settle in on the mains then cut to idle or cut to idle above runway and let her settle in for a 3 pointer. Either way, she lands like a trainer.

Next was to check the engine temp, only have 1 cutout in the front, one for the pitts and a slightly larger cutout below (pics attached), even though our weather here is horrible, about 30 C's and humidity this morning somewhere around 80%, the engine temp was no hotter than an exposed engine on a trainer!

Still need to run a couple more tanks thru the G-90 before I lean her out and take the SU to the skies and put her thru the manuevers. My conclusion so far, the plane is a quick build, good quality and really nice to fly.

I'm going to get one of these Hobbico SU-31s for my GMS 61 Ringed. I assume I'll also have to pick up a Pitts muffler, right?

Hi Stik-n-Rdr,

Yep, you would definately need a pitts for this one. Look at the pics I posted above, you hardly need to cut out the cowl at all! Had no problems with cooling. There is enough exit at the rear of the cowl and where the pitts exits to keep the engine cool.

I was able to put my os 91 4 stroke under the cowl without a pitts style muffler. I used the standard muffler and ran one of those plastic?? muffler extensions out thru the bottom of the cowl and it has been working great. Its a nice flying plane.
