RE: New 81
Hey guys....
I have NOT flown the plane this year, and only had 2-outings last year because I wanted to change a few things:
Gas tank lowered:
I have moved my gas tank to be inline with the carb on my Gemini (tired of the syphoning and blubbery rich off idle/midrange)
I haven't got a tig welder or lathe, so the conversion will wait... in the mean time, this should work well...
Fixed the warped verticle tail
Cut a relief on the side that needed to the tail to come twards.
Taped and epoxied...and let dry. the access hatch was placed there after 1st uneventfull aileron reversal landing...er um crash...
It looks nice and strait and strong now!...
picts...
The almost foam looking stuff is epoxy/micro-ballons/silica mix, that is not smooth....(hard to get in there) and it was a-bit think so it wouldn't laydown nicely...(future knowledge)

RE: New 81
Do you have any pictures with the gemini and cowl install? WHat rpm are you getting with the APC 17X6? I get about 9000 with my Gemini at sea level. A Cline regulator would eliminate all syphoning problems. Do you have the two screw carb or single needle adjustment?
I've been too busy to assemble my last one. I really liked flying these with smoke.

RE: New 81
It is the airbleed carb (single needle).
I can't remember what I had for rpm's
I don't believe it was as strong as yours.
I am in Minneapolis MN. Not sure what that equalls, but my engines seem to be at the lower end of rpms...
I have a Hitec A9 with telemitry. I will get some numbers off it with that when I get it up...
I can't believe how nice the plane looks with the stickers on it!... Big dif. IMHO...
I was waiting to clear mine....
I was looking at the wheel pants, and it looks like that is a sticker, that has clear coat over it...
My other stickers didn't yellow over time (using the Automotive two part clear coat PPG brand)
It is going on something like 4-years now...
I think I will just fly it as is.. and paint and clear twards the end of the year....
I think I posted picts... will have to check...
Cheers..

RE: New 81
Hi Everyone
If there is someone who would like to part with one, I will be interested.
The shipment will then be to South Africa.
Regards
Hennie

RE: New 81
There was a NIB one listed a few weeks ago on here for $450. It disappeared and isn't in the sold category. Keep your eye out it may get listed again.
I'm currently fiberglassing mine. It's going to be slightly heavier but with the ZDZ 40 it should be fine. I was tired of the saggy monokote and decided to give it a shot. I wish you luck in locating one. These plane fly amazing, its ashame GP pulled the plug on them.

RE: New 81
I just picked up one of these chipmunks at an estate sale. Anyone know what the CG is? or where I can get a manual? GP does not list the tech data anymore due to it being discontinued.

Paco, I know this is an old thread, but I have mine NIB with a Saito 1.80 as well. What smoke system are you using?

Jeff,
I haven't flown mine in a couple of years either but I was running an old Don Harris smoke pump which ran pretty well. I was using both Super Dri and Bennet smoke oil.
The Saito 180 provided plenty of power but I started to have trouble keeping it running. I might need to adjust the tank height as mentioned here, or maybe just re-plumb the whole thing.

So i'm a little late to the party, but I couldn't afford on when I was in college. so here we go...
DLE 35ra inverted, Xoar 18x10 prop.
16oz fuel tank, 24 oz smoke tank. slimline Skywriter pump
2x A123 2300mah packs, one for radio, one shared by ignition and smoke
JR 8411 for elevator and rudder, 821 for ailerons, flaps, and throttle. Xbus for wing servos allows a single servo extension to the wing.
AUW 14.5 lbs dry, no balance issues
