GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
I am interested to hear from anyone who has flown the GSP YAK 54. I am aware of the tail heavy issue but have not heard alto of flight reports.
Thanks,
Robert

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
A club meber had his maiden with his yak last weekend and with a OS 1.60 it was abit slow but the air frame did feel abit on the heavey side..
His left elevator had about a 1 inch warp in it and had his expo set to positive so the sticks were realy sensative at the middle and it was a real hand full to fly.
He now wants to put a Moki 2.1 in it,as he had to add over 400grams of lead to the cowl and if your going to add weight it might as well be with some more HP..
I was going to buy this plane from my LHS as it looked sweet but went for the Katana instead as the Yak has a higher wing loading, but his came in for landing at a reasonal pace,it was just hard to put on the grond with such a sensative elevator..

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
Hi Robert. I have this plane with an O.S.160 and i think it is plenty of power but as stated the elevator is sensitive. I am in the process of adding nose weight to tame down the elevator and the extra weight doesn't seem to affect the flying as it really float's on landind and i have landed it fairly slow and with no tip stalling. Nice plane. Tim.

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
I bought one of these yaks and after reading everything I could find on it I proceeded to try and lighten up the airframe by removing everything out back that wasn't structurely necessary. I used a saito 1.80 and still had to add about 12oz. of lead to the nose to get it to balance. I made sure the throws on the elevator were fairly low with about 30% expo. I have flown the plane five times this past weekend and am very happy with this plane it was the bell of the ball at the field everyone loved the way it looked and flew. This plane took a little more work than maybe some people are willing to give an arf but I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. It flys well and floats in for some great landings. This plane has gotten some bad press because of its weight, quality control and I believe some of the people tried to put the servos in the tall and you just can't do that with this plane. The over sense. tall is great when adjusted properly and for doing tumbles. I feel the only thing this plane won't do is hover it is a little to heavy for that at 13lbs. Mark

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
I've just ordered one of these. Maybe fools rush in where angels fear to tread, but it is sooo pretty and I like a challenge.
Apart from watching weight at the rear, any construction tips?
I plan to power it with an MVVS 1.60 ignition, so power will be gentle, but the engine happily swings an 18x8 wide blade prop for thrust optimisation. And with a nice big battery up the front and an ignition module, balancing should be easy. I'll need to contruct a custom muff, as I don't want to chop up that bootiful cowl!
I will heed the advice not to put the elevator sero's in the tail. An arrowshaft with a split "Y" at the end could be the ticket.
Is the kit set up for pull-pull rudder?

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
I have the smaller CMP model the 54 size one. It was also tail heavy. That being said, I own a YA Edge 540T which I put a Roto 25 in. Its simply amazing!! I mean just as powerful as you want and will hover and knife edge like a breaze. Engine is really storong even though its just breaking in. My friend has the GSP Sukhoi and it also needed a lot of nose weight. I am thinking that plane, with a gas engine out to be sweet. The roto 25 or 35 would do just fine, and that extra weight would prolly balance this thing about perfect. Anyone who might be putting a gasser on it please let me know.

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
I flew my YAK 54 today in a strong wind in about zero degrees. It flew nice and smooth until landing - I had a very short landing field. I got it down in one piece. Flew good. My yak has a magnum 180 2 stroke. As everybody else has mentioned, it was very tail heavy. I moved all servos forward, batteries mounted under cowl, receivers wire-tied to fire wall. Plane weighs close to 15 lbs. Balanced at 135 mm. Can't wait to fly it again (in warmer weather).

RE: GSP YAK 54 WHO HAS FLOWN IT
those both will fly that plane great, I never thought to put my mvvs in it how did it balance with that gas motor? what prop are you using on it and what rpm are getting out of the mvvs? I found on the sight that one guy was getting 8000 rpms using mobil t2 oil with a 20 10 menj prop I found thats about 700 more than anybody else. I got 6500 with the same prop but thats with a diffrent oil and really rich. just fly by.

Hi Scott.
The Yak flew great on with my Saito 150.....but fuel consumption was killing me
I have just only installed the MVVS in the Yak. The video is the first start of the engine.......yesterday.
I have a Mejzlik 22/8 on mine. I have been told that this prop is too large
