good pic merlin. i did the best I could to get the elevator to be equal. I might try to make the low rate to be set at the high's and experiment with the high.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If mine are indeed equal it is by sheer luck, I used a metal ruler and measured the height from the table to the bottom of the elevator and just matched the opposite side. I was going to try taping a wooden dowel to the tops of each elevator and angle the dowels so that they would meet each other at the rear of the fuse but since I didn't have some dowels handy I went with the ruler method. Could sealing the hinge gaps make that much of a difference? I think it possibly could if the gaps weren't equal in each elevator but that's just my inexperienced opinion, remember this is my first ARF so I am by no means an expert. I just read a book about setups and went from there, luck did the rest.

Flew mine for the first time yesterday. All I can say is WOW. I had a huge smile on my face all three flights. I have a YS63 with a hyde mount on it, 13x6, hitec servos. This plane balanced exactly as the manual stated with no extra weight added. I did add some lead to the Left wingtip to lateral balance the plane. I set the control surface throws exactly to the manual. Takeoff was smooth and climbout was very strong. Needed only 2 clicks of right aileron and it flew hands off. BIG beautiful loops with the YS. Fast roll rate. I could not get mine to snap out with full elevator. If this plane is balanced, equal elevator throws, and appropriate throws this is a wonderful plane to fly. It does land a little hot, but was still able to bring it n for a nice 3 point landing. I love this plane. PLus it looks so cool on a high speed photo pass (sorry no pics) I was the only one at the field.

Has anyone else had trouble with the wing mounting? When I went to mount mine, the tab that on the leading edge would not go into the fuse slot. I had to sand the tab and file the slot. Also the bottom of the leading edge does not fit flush with the bottom of the fuse. It sits about 1/8 beyond the fuse at the saddle. Are they all like that?

Ive had two of these and the first one required some sanding of the tab as you describe, but the second one didnt.
The leading edge isnt flush on either of them by a couple of mm ..... actually the first one I had doesnt stick out past the fus anymore... since I pancaked it into the ground and pushed the wing up through the cockpit
Both of them

Does anyone knbow if the YS63s or the OS FS70 Ultimate fit under the cowling without cutting it? I`m undecided between these two engines or the Saito 82a, although I know I will have to cut the cowling with the Saito.
Any suggestion between these three engines I`m considering?

Neither will fit without cutting the cowl. I have the YS 63 on mine and it is by far the better choice. Its lighter and more powerful then either the OS70 or Saito 82. I'm running a 13x4 2-blade but i've also been happy with a 12 x 5 3-Blade.

Hello
I think Iam going to switch from my Saito 91 to a OS 61 FX. The OS is a little bit lighter and i want to save the 91 for a bigger plane. I dont believe i will have to make any cutouts with the OS for the cowl. Has anybody flown this with a 61 Fx.
Spongebob is my new pilot since my son insisted.
Thanks Scott

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size
Finished assembling mine tonight. Went with an OS .55AX, MAS 12x6 and Slimline compact exhaust. Only bug was with the .55, the engine mount (stock glass filled) got in the way of the exhaust. Added 1" of exhaust extension, fixed the clearance and brought the tubes out of the cowl about 3/4" all in one shot. Still not happy about the fit of the leading edge of the wing, (1/8+ lower than fuse in front of it) but don't know if it's supposed to fit that way or not yet. Changing would change the AOA and possibly cause problems. If no one else has this problem, I'll post pics and get some opinions.
I also got the Virtual Cockpit from Wright RC, and what a difference it makes! Even made my 16 year old son say wow, and that's something!

Could you guys let me know what you think of this engine/muffler combo for the .46 Cap 580:
engine: Tower Hobbies .75 BB
muffler: Bisson .76 Pitts
I know its a little big, but i figure it will loose some power with the pitts muffler anyway... and the price is right . If anyone has had experience with this motor/muffler i would appreciate the input. Id really like to know if it will fit in the cowl as well. Thanks for you help.

I am using that same combination on my Giles 202 .60 that weights about 7 lbs. I am turning a 14X6 and I have unlimited vertical and I am thinking of going to a 15X4 or 15X6 to slow down the plane a bit. I love the tower engines. My other TH .75 is in my Phoenix extra 330S but I am not using the pitts mufler in that one. I am also turning a 14X6

Flight update...
Guys the best engine for this plane hands down is the YS63!!! I have one spinning a 13x6 and the performance is great. This plane is such a pleasure to fly. As for many concerns about nosing over with the gear position, I have not had a single nose over. My field is a little rough and I am flying with the wheel pants on. Just make sure you balance the plane to the manual both fore/aft and laterally. I cannot get mine to snap out even with full up elevator on high rates per the manual. This does not have the "SNAP CAP" tendency. Just make sure your elevators are exactly equal on travel. You have to carry a little power for landing, but it slows down alright. I perfer to land with high rates, as low rates I seem to run out of elevator. Aerobatics are SICK. This thing will snap faster than a blink of an eye. It actaully will do a perfect lumchevok also. I LOVE this plane.

I think I am going to get one of these birds, I lost my other one in a accident last year. I will probably go with the magnum 70 four stroke engine again. I believe the best prop with this engine/plane combo was a 13x6? And also doesnt the spinner that come with the plane need to be hacked up for that size prop?'
Thanks for the info.

I've read most all of the pages, and don't think I've seen an answer to my question yet. If this has already been answered, please direct me to the place. Could someone please provide me with a suggestion (and maybe pictures) of where they mounted their remote glow plug system on this airplane? I've thought about it quite a bit, and still haven't come up with any ideas to keep everything looking good. Need some help. Thanks.

Jon,
That's a good looking set up. Unfortunately I've already bought a remote glow plug from Tower Hobbies. It has the dummy plug that you mount with a 90 degree bracket. If I can't get any suggestions for where to mount that, I may have to eat the $12.00 or whatever it cost me for the Tower one, and get one from Hangar 9. Anybody else mount a remote glow plug and want to share where/how they did it? Thanks.

Couldn't you mount it in the same spot? Depending on your glow driver's length it may work but if anything else you could mount the bracket on the same surface aiming the dummy plug towards the rear?? I'd have to look at mine to check clearance but it should work.

That's an idea. As long as I could figure out how to aim the dummy plug towards the rear. I want to keep things on the side of the plane, or at least easily accessable from the top and side. At our field, we start them right on the runway. Don't want to have to mess with attaching anything to the bottom of the plane. I'm done building for this evening. I'll see what I can figure out tomorrow. Thanks for your advice.

Oh ok, I'm used to having a flight station to fire up on. I see your point, you could still aim it towards the side like you mentioned, it will just take a little patience setting it up but it will be well worth it. Good luck!

Greetings to all....
I am looking to replace my Model Tech Twister that went in after about 100 flights, the tail section broke in flight and thats all she wrote. There is much reading involved on this plane, I have liked the look of this plane for a long time. And now I am going to purchase it this weekend. From my crash I have a surviving OS 55ax. Is this enough power for this plane? if yes what prop would you recommend.
