Default Taylorcraft wing strutts

I keep breaking the metal end of my wing struts that fasten to the landing gear on my H9 Taylorcraft. I have heliarced the one side back to gether and it seems fine for now. But the other side has now broken. They both broke threw the mounting hole(on either side of the hole). I believe I'm going to mount a block in side the fuse and attach then to the fuse rather than the gear. I will then have to make new brackets to bolt up to the strutts.

Anyone else have this trouble? How did you fix it?

Yep! Don't know what engine you're using, I'm using a G26---fixed mine with a "HydeSoftmount" also no more broken ca hinges or cracked cowls---I use them on everything I build---solves all my "Vibration induced fatigue problems"---take it for what it's worth---

G38, so I don't have a lot of cowl clearance to let the engine shake. I may look in to one any how. The plane flys to good to get rid of or tear up.

I changed the strut attachment to the landing gear by installing a 2-56 threaded rod into the end of the strut. To the treaded rod I added a half inch of fuel tubing and then attached the strut to the gear with a lock nut. This made the assembly something like a shock absorber. It worked well for several months until I lost the plane to a radio problem.

I like the idea of the shock absorbing mount. I mourn your loss...

Since they are not needed on the H9 Taylorcraft and are for looks only I just removed mine. Hard to land when its broke loose and hanging down.

So, Ed you fly regularly with out the struts? I have always run them. Or at least one of them. Guess if the wing is under enough load to snap those puny little screws wouldn't hold it together.

H9 said they are for decoration only. Wish I was still flying mine. Had a lot of hours on her but lost her when I got a little over active on the throttle one day pulling the firewall out. The firewall pull out could be traced back to a p%$s poor fix I made at a flyin early in her life after a strut broke loose in the air then snagged the ground. You know, one of those quick repairs that you swear you will get around to fixing correctly when you get home, but don't.

I flew her pretty hard without those struts. Very strong wing.
