RE: Hanger 9 P-40 Warhawk 60
Bolt and seanychen,
Sorry for my slow response, busy. As for prop, recomendations from you guys noted. As far as prop ordered, I don't know. Went with Seth's recomendation at Hobby Town, and in the heat of battle, forgot to ask. As far as cowl clearance with a 125 Siato, no problem at all, good quarter to a half inch or so just eyeballing it. Have 90 degree tight elbow ordered. Hopefully it will do the trick to get the muffler in a bottom exit position. Suggestions?

Oh, I thought you were referring to the Saito 120, which is considerably larger in size than the 125.
Pardon my CG comment too. With the Saito 125, CG will come out perfectly with the battery under the fuel tank. And for the prop, either a Graupner 14x7 3-blade (wider blade) or Master Airscrew 15x7 3-blade (thinner blade, but larger diameter). I suspect these 2 props will load the Saito 125 to about 9500 peak rpm.

Advice noted about Graupner 14x7 and Master Airscrew 15x7. Will try both. Airplane in final stages of assembly, and you are right... balances perfectly with pitch/yaw servos in tail and battery approximately over retract servo. That is W/O spinner, (which is on order). Gonna work out fine. Battery will probally wind up over wing bolts....This project is nearing completion. Gonna be a nice airplane that should fly well. Thanks for the insites!

MA 15x7 3-blades probably won't be available for another month. I've only seen it on Model Aviation ad of March this year, but not even on Master Airscrew website.

RE: Hanger 9 P-40 Warhawk 60
Check this out!!! I was out flying my new warhawk last week, I have a YS 110FZ and the Keleo exhaust. It's the 7th or 8th flight, and talk about fast... The engine was just getting broken in, and I was doing some high speed dives (on low rates). Suddenly, as I began pulling up the elevator violently fluttered and down it went full speed.. The whole front of the fuselage with the fuel tank, firewall, and engine came off. (I had the cowl off due to it being the first run of the year) and the wing broke in half.
I looked at the tail to try and figure out why it fluttered like that. I have a h9 P-51 with a Saito 100 that I have over 100 flights on and have done many full speed low passes and dives... and you name it.
As I looked at the tail, the wire was broken in half and the servo was F***ed. I realized that where the wire was broken it was bent at the break point. Obviously the wire couldn't handle the force and broke.... Needless to say I was stunned. The rest of the elevator and tail was fine and unbroken.... ???
I wish there was something I could do, rather than buy another kit and use 4-40 (and high torque servo) instead of the crappy weak wires they are sending with the stock kits. On the other hand it is a YS 110 and man did it haul a**!!!

RE: Hanger 9 P-40 Warhawk 60
Now I am totally confused about a prop. I will be putting a Saito FA100 in my P-40. I have a two blade 15x6 with a 3.5 in. spinner. I really wanted to go to a 3 blade for the looks. I see a recommendation for a 13x8 Master Airscrew 3 blade for the 1.00 and a 15x7 Master Airscrew for a 1.20. That seems like quite a difference. Can someone clarify this for me?? Thanks in advance.

Has any body tried the 3 ½†3- blade spinner by NEWB ALANCE? How dos it Look on the P-40?
The price is unbelievably low compared to the Tru Turn.

I noticed that the pushrods on this model were week and super flexable used a stiffer version for my elevator and rudder not thicker just stiffer for a few cents could make a big differnce sounds like a good investment. in regards to the spinner if you check the HORIZON site tru turn has a spinner cut for this model anodized red havn't purchased one myself but thought it looked pretty good.

RE: Hanger 9 P-40 Warhawk 60
Just checked the Horizon Hobbies site. The red anodized 2-blade spinner is backordered until the release in July. I hope they make a 3-blade. I think I will try to write Tru Turn and find out. I will let you know.
I have a question about the pilot. I bought a Hanger 9 WWII pilot but having trouble determining what colors to paint the various parts. Does anyone have an suggestions or maybe some photos of what you have done. Thanks.

Very true Richard but the Silver TruTurn looks so good on there and it is such a beautiful plane, I think it may deserve spending the extra cash. Ric from Tru Turn wrote back and they have them in stock. The 3 blade is not listed so you have to request it in the comments box on the order page. He also suggested the 3.5" FAI shape spinner for the P-40 instead of the 3503. It is not as pointed as the others. 3-1/2" x 2-3/4". The link is http://www.truturn.com/cgi-bin/store...exact_match=on
If you have an extra 100 bucks to spend on your plane, and want a red spinner, then tru-turn is your answer.javascript:void(AddText('[8D]'))

OK Richard, you win...LOL. Thanks for the pics, you convinced me, it does look better than andodized. I guess you hand start your engine since you don't want to screw up that paint with a starter cup?

Believe it or not, I use my starter on that spinner, and it has been holding up for over 150 flights. Here is a short video of me using my starter on another painted spinner: [link=http://www.warbirdobsession.com/starters/starting_brison24.wmv]Starter Cone on Painted Spinner Video[/link]
The engine is a Brison 2.4 (39cc) gasser. As long as you sand and prime the spinner real good and use a big soft starter cone (from Miller Products), then the paint should last a long time.

RE: Hanger 9 P-40 Warhawk 60
Gents,
I've completed around 50 flights with this airplane and I'm absolutely delighted. With a Keleo muffler on board and CJM rotating air retracts, this warbird is a beauty in the air.
Torque rolls, inverted fly and quick low passes are a breeze to perform.
Today I had to fly with 20 KM/H+ winds, crosswind on the runway and on final she just floated...
Did I say that I like this product?

Do you have any luck finding a P-40 spinner? I was lucky to find 1 on LHS shelf, as CB has been out of business. I don't know anybody else making a 3.5" P-40 spinner.
MA 15x7 3-blades probably won't be available for another month. I've only seen it on Model Aviation ad of March this year, but not even on Master Airscrew website.

1) It is safe to use on 4 strokes
2) The spinner cone has no cutouts so you can use 3 blade props and cut it to FIT the prop.

I am flying mine with an ASP 91, Keleo exhaust, Dave Brown custom cut three blade spinner painted red, and robart struts.
I am flying a master airscrew 13 X 8 three blade prop. On board glow, servos mounted inside the fuselage, and a retractible robart tail wheel.
It balanced perfectly with the battery under the fuel tank.

Haven't been in this thread for quite some time...
Gonna have to take mine out tomorrow...it hasn't been flown at all this year [X(]
I like the looks of this plane...
I have a black CB spinner on mine FWIW... looks mean [>:] but I like the red and alum. too...
Maybe I need to get one of each color, so I can play Dennis Morgan, huh?
