After watching me put my Saito .91-powered WM P-51 (Miss America trim) through its paces this weekend, one of my mates just ordered one from quantummodels.com. He also bought my spare Saito. It sounds like he'll be bringing it over to my house to assemble it.

This will be cool, as I'll be able to compare the two versions with identical engines, props, radio gear, etc.

I'll post more info once we start his project.

Killer plane! Watched one fly with a hot .61 and was wild! Landings were very nice and stable. World Models has some really nice stuff. I have flown their Frontiers, Extra 300, and Super Chipmunk and they all fly well. Several mail order companies carry them, just check through some of the mags.

Default YS .91?

How does your balance and what does it weigh with the YS? I *really* wanted to power mine that way but I couldn't figure out how to balance the extra 6-7 oz worth of engine without adding weight to the tail... I *hate* adding dead weight!

How are your landing speeds with the YS? The field I fly from is pretty small, and its difficult to bleed off enough airspeed to land without a 7+ mph headwind. Last time I flew my Mustang the engine died during my approach. I went long ended up in the long grass at the end of the field. There was *no* wind that day (a rarity)... she floated on me.

I'm also thinking of getting the wm dago red. I like its price a lot better than the EZ dago red; however, I love the added flames down the side of the fuselage on the EZ dago red. I would love to put those on the world models version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find flame decals for the WM dago red?

I prefer the clean look of the old Dago. The newer version with the flame job has a real slapdash look to it - like one of the ground crew guys had one bottle too many, found a brush and a pot of paint and *hey-presto* he's Giotto working in the Scrovegni Chapel, gazing at the wall, nibbling his paint-brush...
Less is more.

the last time they painted Dago Red they painted quite a bit. when Dago Red was on the way to Reno, it hit some rain, they had to do some painting at Reno, I personly like the flames, but when you are building one from a mustang kit, they are a bit hard to do, I think ill hire someone to do it. Im putting a .91 asp 2 stroke in mine. it wieghs 10-11 pounds with a cliped wing at 62 inches, was 64. lots of work ahead, i have pictures in my gfallery of the construction so far.

I built one with a Saito.91, it was decent, with alot of torque. Another friend of mine built one with another Saito.91 w/straight pipe, and runs %30nitro, that is one fast Dago. I built mine and installed a very fresh ASP.75, and it was all but a red streak. Extremely fast. Propped short with an 11x9 which still kept it to manufacturer specs, instant acceleration...I sold it about a year ago....I miss it when I read about them.

They are not the lightest of the stangs, but I'd say they are the most streamlined and tightest of airframes. In a word.. awesome.

Default dago

I haved owned one for 2 years now, awesome bird...Mine started out with a os91fx,of course strengthened stress areas, flew it that way only like 2 months cause I noticed the wing stringers & joints getting weakened so I then slapped a irvine 53/master air 11x6 with a macs high performance muffler in it ...and my dago is just as fast now as it was with the 91 in it,let me rephrase that- VERYYY FASTT...I have the fastest prop plane at my field...its very stable and now I dont have to worry about the wings blowing apart on me like it would have with the 91 in time.I noticed 1 guy asked about the flames as the new ez kit has,I bought some flames (sold in a sheet)
from my hobby shop here ,they are made for the cars but can be used much the same for planes..

The Dago Red flies just incredible with the Irvine 53. Of course you could slap a bigger engine on to it but I don't see the point.

I flew mine today with the saito 91 and the thing just screams!!! you know, sure the 2 strokes wind up a lot higher but when my plane rips up the airspace on low level flights the sound is so realistic, so the slight increase in weight doesnt bother me a bit!!!

I believe the WM is worth the extra dollars cause
of the fiberglass fuse, and parts. I had an O.S. .90
4-stroke in mine....it wasn't real fast, but it sure was
sweet. ( crashed it ) I recently got another one, they
were on B.O. for a time.

It'll be the next plane up for me, same motor. Inverted
four stroke is the only way to go. Don't hack that
beautiful cowling.

Dave.

I use a TT46, 10x6 APC, Hitec 425's, and a Bisson muuffler. Really cheap set up but loads of fun with 4 others in the air set up the same way.

Default Dago red

ive had mine for two weeks and that airplane screams with my 61fx, i would say at least 120mph . landings are not fast, kinda slow but dont stall the plane!it drops like a rock on stalls and also spins. retracts for me are working great, im flying in grass and street. hope that helps

Ps:got it from quantum models(free shipping)

I have a Saito .72 in mine. I wanted a four stroke sound and an inverted engine as I didn't want to chop that beautiful cowl. The balance came out perfect on it. I have the battery mounted right at the back of the fuel tank and surprisingly everthing worked out great weight wise. The .72 moves it plenty fast, at least for me. Never clocked it but it seems faster then the WM T-34's which have been clocked (radar) at 90+ . Great looking, great flying plane well worth the money IMHO

Hi Reinaldo,

It seems that u have mounted the 2 stroker inverted. Any cons running it that way?

I'm going for speed and two stroke gives the RPM required. Still can't decide wether it'll be a 60's or 90's. Since most 90's have same weight & dimensions of 60's.

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks!

Not necessarily, This is my WM P-51 running a G90 sideways with a Pittis underneath. If you want to save cowl hacking then a fourstroke is the way to go. Put a 91 up front and it will move.

Default Dago red R.I.P

people forget what i wrote same day(today) i crashed my 2 weeks old dago red due to some mother**ker on the runway starting his trainer while i was low on fuel. there was damage on the wing about 2 ribs broken and front spar but im goin to fix it better with ply and fiberglass and sell it. what i said on top (never stall it)well it i ran out of airspeed and it stalled. for gagak the 61 run perfect upside down the thing is that you have to tilt the tank a bit up so the fuel doesnt leak into the engine.for engine my 61 was fast 110+ but vibrated a lot so i think that a 90 is too much
reinaldo

Ps: im selling the p-51 after fixing it anyone interested?
