Randy,
Got my Spoiler completed lastnight. I'll break-in the OS160 and plan to fly it this weekend. It weighed 10lbs and 2 oz.

RE: jerrys big boy by morris hobbies
I have been considering this plane for a long time. It looks like there once was a ARF for $229 but now there is only the kit version for $169 from Morris Hobby. Are there any other options ? How is it compared with the Ultastik lite 120 or the giant Big Stik ? I like the idea that I could cover the JBB in my own colors rather than have the now very dated factory kote schemes from H9 and GP.
Your long-running forum says a lot for the JBB.

Bob,
I have owned and flown others ultrasticks, the JBB outperforms them all easily!! It is my opinion that the JBB is a much better plane. It lands MUCH MUCH slower than the sticks and just flies better. It is true that there was an ARF of the JBB, but sadly, they quit making them. I now fly a Spoiler, but if I ever need or want another JBB, I would gladly build one from a kit, and I've never built a kit before...

good looking spoiler there bill.
we had a great week end at Kennett Mo and it was great to spend time with barnesracing, gimble binder, timg, and 70 or 80 others there. i think there was 6 or 7 jbb's there and 4 or 5 spoilers. i will try to post a pic of keith barnes ( barnrsracing ) in a high alfa manuver of some kind, i'm not sure what he was doing i am getting old and can't see that far. take a look and see if you can tell what he was doing. i think his new name will be keith hucking higher than anyone barnes. haha!

RE: jerrys big boy by morris hobbies
Well summer is almost over and my BB almost made it without a scratch...I said almost. At our LAST fly in of the summer , my Magnum 120 decided to quit on the down wind leg. IF the airplane wasn't such a terrific flyer/floater, it could have been much worse. I deployed the flaps and used the wind as much as I could and almost made it back to the field. Unfortunately, she came down a little nose first and off came the landing gear. Then of course there is a aluminum marker pipe, the only one within a hundred yards and it catches the leading edge next to the fuse. Both of which I consider easy fixes. I was going to put her back together so I could fly it until the end, but figured she needed a rest. This winter she will get a whole new covering (black & yellow and yellow and black checkerboard) and I will get rid of the pull-pull in favor of mounting the rudder servo on the top of the fuse with a direct hook up. All in all, I would have to say you guys are correct and it IS one of the best flyers out there. I will also keep my eyes open for another, kit or ARF and also dig a little deeper into the spoiler. I maidened my Spoiler this weekend. It is my new favorite plane. That OS 160 really pulls. Frank,, Bubba Cholson helped me get the carb and pipe working together. He flew it once yesterday and put it through it's paces. He even did a climbing flat spin with it. I 'm going to build a spare now incase I crash this one so I won,t have to go a long time without one. The spoiler really has spoiled me.

Bob,
The Spoiler was designed by the same person who is known for the JBB. Jerry L. Smith. He lives here in Western Ky. I have never owned a JBB but I think the Spoiler is about the same thing only larger with some slight mods. Hopefully Nogyro, Randy Racer, or Gimble Bender will chime in here as they have flown both planes. The Spoiler is a plans build only,,, no kit exist. Jerry does sell the plans I will PM you his e-mail address if you like.

Nice Pics Randy. Did you ever figure out what maneuver Keith was doing? I also wonder what the range on that thing is?

In all fairness to Bubba, I made the landing gear block out of lite ply as I also did the replacement gear block. The block breaks on a landing that might plop down a little but the plane always stays in tact under these conditions. The Benton field is getting in pretty rough shape, "surface wise," which I'm sure contrbuted. No harm really, I replaced the block lastnight and the plane is as good as new. Less than an hours work. If I did'nt tell you, you would never know it by looking inside or outside of the structure. Those that have seen him fly know he is a very knowledgeable and excellent pilot.

i still don't know what keith was doing in the pics, if i could only see that far up. i think i will call nasa and see if they have any pics from one of there satilites. they are closer to keith's plane than i was. haha!

Willy is correct.
The Spoiler is a modified JBB. The fuse is thicker top to bottom for more side area (helps with knife edge flight) and the tail surfaces are larger. The wing on my Spoiler is the exact same wing that is on the JBB. Others have a fully semetrical wing. My previous JBB's all built out at 8 lbs, 2 oz. That was with an O.S. .91FX for power. My Spoiler built out at 9 lbs, 6 oz!!!![X(] With an O.S. 1.60FX for power. They claim 3.8 HP at 9000 RPM with that engine. Mine's turning 10,400 on the header and can last I checked.... Yeah, it's a little underpowered......
Best,
Josh
