RE: Super Sportster 40 MkII ARF - Suggestions?
after years with a ss 40 kit plane, i replaced it with the arf. same pro 46 tt engine. big difference has been that while the kit plane would do fast airleon rolls all day, the arf will not. high rates, max throw, and a larger servo arm, and still no results. any ideas? still, a very fast fun airplane!

I got an OS 52 FS on mine is is nice to putter about but she is slow. I am thinking of my Rossi 53 but realised that I need to dremel out some bits of wood so that the carb may clear the nose ring. Maybe a TT46 would be better as its lighter ...

I've still got my SS that I built in 1986. It's still one of my favorite planes. I'm still using the original OS 45 FSR that I built it with. Still flies like a champ. The only thing I worry about now is structural failure.[:-] If she make it thru this summer, I'll give it her third covering job and maybe a bigger rudder to aid in the shabby knife edges.

If a 4 stroke is what you prefer, you might consider a thunder tiger 54. But the pro 46 2st is a great fit, and plenty powerful. I have often thought of putting a 4 st in mine, untill I fly it each season. Just love that little 46.

Hi Guys...
Just finished putting together my sportster. Its my 2nd plane after putting together my arf piper cub.
I've been reading the reviews of this plane which everyone seems to praise the sportsters handling. Lets hope it lives up to its reputation tomorrow.
I put a FL70 4stroke in it. Seemed a tad heavy so I put the battery pack in a panel I cut out in the rear fuselage like some others have done.
I didnt go with the stock wheel axles and just went straight to a aftermarket setup. Hopefully she isn't too porky on take off.
There doesn't seem like much thrust angle built in...
Heres some pics of her before she maidens tomorrow..
Cheers

if you build it as per the directions you cant go wrong ....be sure to use lock tite on the motor mount screws ...also get a Sullivan tank stopper to replace the metal one the comes with the plane, its better to do it now rather then later . another thing to get is a Sullivan tail wheel bracket ...the one with a spring ...here is a pic of the ones I have..O-ya mount the engine a little bit ahead of the the measurement the manual gives you or the spinner will rub ....JW

I'd still like to know where these people got their landing gear though. I'm not sure which to buy to change mine to fuse mounted instead of wing mounted.

From my gallery.....
I must mention that
the most easy and relaxed engine installation on the 40 size SS
was for me the O.S. 46LA...
With the O.S. 65LA... you must use some tail weight!

Love the Super Sportster, and you will to. Just glass the heck out of the inside of the pants! They are a fairly zippy Plane with the right power, but it fly's equally as well at slow speeds. Here is a photo of my old Sportster.

RE: Super Sportster 40 MkII ARF - Suggestions?
I built the kit when it was re-released around 2007. I thought it
came out a little porky and took a lot of nose weight but it flew fine.
I always wondered if the ARF was lighter, it looks to me like it is.
