My plane is slightly nose heavy with one rudder servo in the tail and my motor setup weighs 3.5lbs with everything. I think by using the pull pull setup with the 160 you might be alright?

KARBONITE IS A JOKE!!! That is what happened. Vibration of the gas engine stripped the gears in my elevator halves. Thought it was because I had had the servos for a while. Replaced the gears. 5 minutes with the engine running, and they were stripped again. UGH! When I bought the HS635HB, they were advertised as capable for this size of airplane. Obviously not!

The good news is, this all happened before the plane left the ground. The bad news is it will be another month before I can save the money for a couple of HS 645MGs.

Hi all, I'm in the process of building my cg extra 330 and going to mount a brillelli 50cc under the cowl. Just wondering how you guys set up the choke with out using a servo.(trying to save as much weight as posibel, so no extra servo.) Any pictures and advice would help as this is my first gaser.

On my motor I just reached in through the front of the cowl to choke the motor.

great info everyone. I am builing one now with a bme 44 and hitec 645mg one per aileron and one on the rest of the surfaces also a jr ds537 for the throttle. going to replace stock tires with better ones. Does anyone make carbon gear specifically for this plane or know of one that would work. This is my fist gasser so any suggestions, comments or hints on this set up would be apperciated alsoIwill fly this with ajr 6102 radio and 770 pcm reciever.

Just received my 330 last night started on it this afternoon. I started by pulling all the stryo foam out of the canopy and landing gear cover. I hinged all the control surfaces and glued on the horizontal stab. I installed a quick release latch for the canopy. I also got the landing gear installed. This plane looks like I can get at least 8 oz's of wood out of it. Lots of heavy ply where they could have used balsa or at least cut lightening holes. My goal is to be at 13lbs or less when all said and done. I have a YS-160DZ that I'll be using along with a spectrum ar7000, 1500mah 7.4v lipo, duralite failsafe 6v regulated switch, (4) hitec 5945's ail&elv, 1 5995 on the rudder, jr 821 throttle. If I can get the dry auw on 13.5 or under this plane should be a rocket and fly super light. For the price ($219) just don't see how I can go wrong.

hey capthis did you think of removing the pull pull servo mounts for saving weight?

Yeah I did, but I am currently using that to mount my reciever, and batery.

Still using the stock main wheels. Seem fine to me. They do flat spot, but the foam goes back to round very fast, and I could care less if they do flat spot. only need wheels on taking off and landing.

I am only using 1 each aileron servo. All surfaces have Hitech 5645's.

I did get my new sulivan tailwheel today. Wind is suppossed to be 20-30mph here tommorrow so I doubt I will get anymore flights on it. Maybe on Saturday.

I also moved my ignition pickup. It was firing just after top dead center. I moved it forward of TDC so hopefully I will pick up a few more RPM out of my motor. I will try and test run the motor tommorrow.

What ignition do you have on your engine if it has a timing retard like the CH and RCCEXL you need to have it timed 28 to 30 degres before top dead center. In other words when engine is at TDC magnet should already be past the pulse 28 to 30 degr . or about 5/16 of a inch. Just a guess.
See timing instructions in C&H Web www.chignitions.com. If you have fixed timing be careful and use a heavy glove as engine could kick back.

I'll have to get some pics up later, but the canopy area is gonna loose most of the wood. The front area near the motor box has just way too much unlightened ply for my tastes. I'm kinda spoiled now since I had a EF Yak 74" and got to see just how lightly that plane was built. The wings even may end up loosing every other rib and alot of sheeting. The wings are very heavy. It would be nice if goldberg could go back and redesign this plane. I think it could be a lot better. I still like it a lot. Just based on the short video that CG has of this plane it looks to fly really nice already. I wish someone else had a good video with some good 3D thrown in.

does any one know what adapter to use for the brellilli engines for the great planes 3" aluminum spinner, and the Tru Turn 3" spinner?

The brillelli should be drilled and tapped for a 10 32 screw. Just get the screw that is the right length. No adapter needed.

It's your plane, but i would not use standard servos with this plane. The surfaces are huge and even if you are not going to fly 3d I think MG servos are gonna be mandatory. Just my 2 cents good luck

Sorry, I can't help you there. I couldn't figure out what servos to use on mine at first either, so I just did the "More is better" approach.

4 5625's on the ailerons
2 5625's on the rudder
1 5645 on each elevator half
1 5475 on the throttle

Don't think of anything except MG servos on this (or any) gas plane. Ask me how I know. Went through 4 sets of gear without even leaving the ground. Yikes! Get yourself some MG servos. Vibration from gas engines is too much for plastic or Karbonite gear. I ended up with Hitec 645MG all the way around, and 635HB (not MG) on throttle.

well i got every thing hindged and the brillelli mounted and the cowl cut out for the motor. Still a little confused on how to set up the choke with out useing servos.(newbie to gas) If any one has a pic on how they set up their choke it would proubly give me an idiea on what to do. I bought a dx7 (as my old jr is kinda out dated ) to control every thing. will the standard digitlal servos that come with the dx7 be ok to put on the wings. Still debating on what servos to use on the elevators and the ruder( using push pull). I want somthing thats light and dosent cost a lot of $.Any way, here are some pics of the progress.

Iceman: I did used push/pull with the servo in the tail.

Schalmoseley: Someone else can chime in, but I would be leary of using non-MG servos with a gas engine. The majority of the shake seems to be in the tail, so maybe they would be alright in the wings. I would hate to lose this plane on a guess though. Also, I don't see any foam between your EI unit and the firewall. You are going to need some to reduce vibration. I reach though the cowl to choke the carb. I have nothing hooked to it.

thanks for the advise bugleboy. I was just mounting up the the EI to see where the wire and boot would mont up to the motor so i could see where i need to remove any cowl. I will remove it and put foam around it(as do i with all electronics.) As for just reaching in the cowl, My hand is to big to reach in there. Mabye i can just atatch a small rod ont it so i dont have to reach all the way in the cowl.

...or open a small hole in the cowl below the choke arm. I am having to do that to mine now, otherwise the choke arm hits the cowling when I try to close the choke completely. Maybe mine is mounted a little lower on the firewall or farther forward on the rail mount than yours. Not for sure.
