Looks great! What engine are you using? Have any problems landing without the collapse?

Brillelli 46gt (Converted Poulan 46cc) and 3W- 22x8 prop...
No troubles at all with the landings... I don't allways land soft either.....
I still even spread my gear out on landings at times....
once in a while a little brute bending is needed to bend it back where it goes... lol

Birilli 46? Wow! Lots of power for that bird. Looks like you can 3d with no problem..right?
Found the Extra 330 I gave to the guy that died. Appears he beefed up the landing gear attachment as you have. Now that I have it back, I plan on a new engine. Prefer to not go gas. Any suggestions on 2s or 4s? The Saito 1.60 did not have enough for 3d.
Anyone?

The power is great! It can hover right around 1/2 throttle...
I really don't have any suggestions as to a nitro engine....
but I can honestly say that a 25cc homelite was fun for cruising around and doing pattern,
and the 46cc is great for 3D (both engines weigh the same)
Here's the best I can do to show you my landing gear area... and a few shots of the fuse....
it was kind of tight to get in there to take pictures.... remember this plane has been flying
for 4 years now, and it's just about due for a recovering job...

Pakratt (aka Ken),
Outstanding pictures, and easy to see how you modified the landing gear area...pretty straightforward. Thanks for posting! I will make the mods forthwith.
I have an RCGF 45CC rear-carb engine for the CGExtra 330.
You have two battery packs, are they plugged into the receiver (though power switches) or do you use a battery failover switching circuit?
(BTW, I have been following your thread on F-G, pretty good thread!)
Thanks again...Ron Kosar

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
I finally got the maiden flight on my CG 330 the planes fly very nice the air plane hover's great my Mark/Moki 2.10 has tons of power and pulls out with no problems I am turning a Xoar 20x8 prop 7500 RPM now that it is just about broke in. My first flight on the air plane I was shaking like a wh ore in church but was able to grease in my landing.
My second flight I was not so shaky but the fill line broke off the copper pipe going into the take so when I gave it full throttle the smoke was disappearing and the engine was about to quick I hurry and pulled back the throttle flew at half throttle for about 5 minutes had plenty of power when I went to land is when I notice the fill line hanging out my cowl. The next day I put 3 more flights on it and had no problems I only tweak a few of my settings from the original set up.
Lippucci (Norm) the Mark/Moki 2.1 has plenty of power for the plane and keeps it pretty light my weighs in at 13lb 6 oz dry.

Adam;
Is that Moki 2.1 a new one? Looked all over the internet & cannot find one. I know Mark is the US distributor. Will check locasl HS today. Any suggestions for a site?

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Chief aircraft and Hobby people have them in stock. I just check hobby People and they are out of stock if I was buying a new engine this is one I was considering a lot its looks like it is about the same weight as my Mark/Moki 2.10 it turns the same RPM on a APC and Wood Props as my Mark/Moki 2.10. I do have my cost down on mixing my own fuel 5% nitro 18% oil 80/20 blend SYN/Castor $10.98 gallon and 15% nitro 18% oil $11.96 gallon I use the 5% on the Mark/Moki 2.10 engine.
I might be able to weigh my engine with mount and muffler to give you an idea how much it weighs tomorrow.

Looks like I am going to the O.S. 1.60 FX 2 stroke. A member has one & it does it all. Looks like a nice match for the 330. Will use a Pitts mufler. Comments?

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Norm I have the Great Planes Gene Soucy Extra 300s 160 74" wing Span with the os 160 and a Bisson pits muffler Xoar 18x6 prop about 8500 RPM it flies the plane great the weight is only about 4 or 5 ounces lighter than the GB 330 plane the biggest difference is the GP 300s is over built and not very light there is to much wood on the plane any way if you plan on doing any 3d with that engine it will have slow pull out. I can hover the plane but when it starts to roll over it does not have the pull out power. The plane is a rocket with that set up and feels like it has unlimited vertical unless your in a hover i just don't know if i am using the wrong prop or something.

Adam:
Would you believe the member who has the OS 1.6 has it in the Gene Soucy. Even though he has not been to the field for months as he is a snowbird it was awesome! Do you think the 330 is heavier or lighter than the 300?
In the CG 330 are you using the 4 servos as suggested or did you modify to use 2 servos for the ailerons? I used 4 hi torque coreless. I may switch to the 2 servos as it was difficult to sinc. Too much buzzing! I even tried the syncronizer.
Wish they still made the the Soucy. Nice bird. Did they ever replace it with another similar plane?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Good news....
a freind of mine gave me a beautiful salvaged canopy from a crashed
cap232... I was looking at it in the shop about a week ago, and decided
to attempt to replace my original broken/taped up canopy....
I'm not sure of the make or size of the Cap232, but the canopy
off of it was only about 2 inches shorter in overal from the front,
and went clear down flush with the bottom of the hatch....
I figured I still had enough "dash" left under the canopy so I'd
give it a try.... what would I have to lose?
my results came about pretty good..... I believe I have breathed
new life into my Extra 330 again... sure looks a lot better now...
I didn't have any of the what I beleive was "flame orange" ultracote,
but I did use "Missle red" monokote on the hatch, and it came out close
enough for me...

Ken:
Suggest you use the 3m colored tape to fasten the shield to the canope. No glue, just a nice stretch fit which holds. Color match is near perfect. What engine are you using?

Norm I still have the Gene Soucy plane with the OS 1.60 I think the weight of the Gene Soucy plane is a little heavier than the CG 330 with no motor hard ware etc due to most of the surface is sheeted. I am only using one server per aileron and one servo for rudder in the tail on the CG330. I will weight both planes again and give you some totals.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
The reason I asked is when I first owned the 330 I had a Saito 1.80FS in it swinging a 16x8 APC. Power was adequate but nothing to scream about. Due to the lightness of the engine I had to add 4 oz of weight to the nose. Total weight was 14# 4oz.
Seems the 1.6 OS 2S may do the trick.
Thanks
Norm

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Norm with the Moki 2.10 engine to balance the CG at 6 1/8" I had to put the battery in the rear of the fuse just behind the canopy a couple of inches if you use the OS 1.60 you should be able to put the battery where the pull pull servo is. With the OS 1.60 I was running and 18x6W APC the issue with that prop is how fast the engine spools up the Xoar 18x6 has about 400-500 rpm less but it revs so much faster it was night and day difference.

Hello again.....
Anyone else out there still flying one of these 77" CG Extra 330's?
I know it's been a while, but I figured an update was in order....
I'm still flying the same extra I posted earlier in this thread, and about a year ago,
I acquired a second 77" Carl Goldberg Extra....
Since acquiring the second Extra, last winter, I put the first extra that I posted earlier
on the table and recovered it.....
Got rid of what my wife likes to call "The Rainbow" scheme.... lol

Hello Pakratt
Nice to hear someone is still flying the 330. One of the best planes I have ever flown. Too bad about the landing gear defect. I am sure you figured it as you are still flying the bird.
Nice job on the recover!

Pakratt -
Still have my Goldberg Extra 330 ARF.
Installed your fuselage strengthening mods that you posted last year on the thread big thanks! :-)
Replaced original aluminum landing gear with carbon fiber mains and tail wheel.
Powered by RCGF 45cc (rear carb), Hitec 5625 and 5645 servos, A123 2200ma flight pack.
Original blue/white covering needs to be replaced - probably this winter.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Well I found and new old CG 330 and have it dry fit together to see what gives. I see the issues with the landing structure bu nothing that can't be fixed, with all the provided information. I plan on mounting an Evolution 45GXS, mainly because I have it. The kit looks fine for the days, but the covering needs a lot of heating. I'm not much of a flyer, loops, rolls, stalls and such but this size sure makes it visible for my tired eyes. If anybody else is still flying one of these let's here it........ Quiet.... Smile.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
OH I forgot, have this crazy Ideal of splitting the aileron and making a flat for softer landings (answeer tomthe landing gear structure issues) and it will look cool doing very slow flybys. it's already set up for two aileron servos, just have to find a way to combine the four servos for flying and separate for landings. A buddy of mines says this is a great way to slow the nose down accent, by opposing the ailerons and flaps too. Any info will be helpfull.

inner flapperons / outter ailerons with a nice mixing setup could be wicked....
Very interesting idea for this Extra..... I don't have much input on this topic,
but if you go through with it, please share here.... very cool!
I've seen that done on a giant ugly stick before....

Also... my Extra is still flying nicely... and ready to start up
another great season with this bird all over again.....
Speaking of ailerons on this particular Goldberg 77" Extra 330...
has anyone ever omitted one of the servos on the stock aileron setup?
I have some new servos that I'm going to upgrade mine with in another
day or so, and I'm wanting to use one instead of dual servos on the wings...
I was checking out the "flex" on the aileron from end to end, and I'm
thinking that it would be stout enough to use just the inner servo
location....
For the last several years I've been flying this will just a couple standard
40oz/in servos in the wings, and now I've got some 120oz/in servos
to replace those....... I do have a quantity of 4 available, but I really
don't think this plane requires 240oz/in on the ailerons... lol
Any input for the Ratt? Thanks!!!
