Default JUst completed my Ultra Stick 60

I wanted to thank all the good people in this forum. It's like having a second set of instructions.

All the recommendations were on the money.

Final tally:

Used JR 4131s across the whole plane
Moved 2 of the servos to the tail end
Re-enforced the landing gear plate with glass cloth and epoxy
Changed control rods to 4-40 hardware
Installed by Sullivan 24Oz tank on the CG

Plane balances perfectly with YS 91AC in the nose and 2 2100mah batteries just behind the servo plate (using an EDR battery backer).

Plane is almost (see below) square and balanced now.

One issue, with the wing half glued absolutely flat to each other, somehow the back side wing tips are not parallel. One is distinctly higher than the other. If I were to calibrate my ailerons on the tips, one is higher than the other. The wing does not look warped and when sitting on a flat surface seems very even - other than these tips tha is...

Looks like you did a very workmanship like job, and I'm happy to see you used a good motor mount for your engine.

BTW, I have never seen an ARF in the low buck price range that was perfectly true!

Ciao,

My wing was the same way. I just set the ailerons close to each other and flew it. Don't worry if it doesn't match at the wing tips. Mine needed almost no trim change.

Wouldn't the plane tend to roll towards the side of the wingtip that is higher?

yarom: RVator and Mr. Akimoto are right. Mine is the same way also. It will fly fine, maybe a click or two of aileron trim is all it will need. Go for it.

I'd make one suggestion. Glass the center section of the wing. I lost my US60 last weekend when the wing broke after making an inverted pass. I will definately be replacing it with a new one but this time I'm glassing the center section!

You put all of that extra work into it, and battery backup system, and you didn't opt for the quad flap setup? You'll get more out of the plane with four servos in the wing!!!

I found the quad flaps unnecessary. Use the full length ailerons and program in airbrake - both ailerons up - it lands very slowly without the extra weight of the 2 flap servos.

Great flier...

The dual battery backup system is nothing but a module that plugs between the two batteries and the switch. Not much work at all.

Flies great!

CG was on the money. All the aerobatics in the book are possible.

This bird is very easy to fly, even as trainer. Added a lot more travel to the surfaces on high rate.

Landings are hard as it wants to glide forever. Only reason to add the flaps. SO far flapperons will do.

Had to change props as a 14x10 was loading too much. Switched to 15x6 with excellent results (YS 91AC).

Glad it flew nice. These planes are a lot of fun. I added to my rudder to help with KE flight. It is tapped on for now to see how it works.
