Default World Models Fun Fly 3D 1.20

The RCS engine will fit fine, but the expansion chamber of the Pitts muffler looks like it will be a non fit. The Fuse is 4 - 1/8" wide, and the cowl, just a tad bit wider.

THe RCS expansion chamber part of the pitts muffler is 4 - 1/8" and the side of the muffler that attaches to the engine is 2 - 1/4", so it requires more space on the port side and less on the other. This means that you would need more space than the FW3D cowl can give you, UNLESS...

You could cut and opening where the muffler contacts the cowl, (uggg...) to allow for some space. I believe the other side would be ok then.

You also have to be careful that the cowl does not come in contact with the muffler as the gasser is very hot and WILL melt the cowl if it touches it.

My guestimation is that the engine will fit easily, but the muffler will cause a problem without cutting.

Here's a link to the RCS site.

Default wm fun 3d

FLEW IT TODAY, AND IT WAS GREAT! FLYS CLEANER THAN MY UCANDO 3D DID. ROLLS ARE MORE AXIEL, STALL TURNS CLEANER, BUT LANDS A LITTLE FASTER AND FLOATS LONGER. HOVERS MUCH BETTER AND HARRIERS ARE REAL STABLE. I AM ABLE TO ACCELERATE OUT OF HOVERS WITH MY YS DZ -APC 18X6WIDE AND ROLL CONTINOUSLY VERICAL OUT OF SIGHT. I FLY AT 1/3 THROTTLE. POWER IS USED LIKE A TOGGLE SWITCH.
IT IS A KEEPER!

sea157...I'm going for it with my rcs 1.40....I had it in a WM cap232 120 size and it didnt have very good vertical but it was about 13lbs auw....then I put it in a Goldberg Decathlon (80" wing) arf...about 11 lbs....it would hover and even do a torkroll...didn't rocket out of a hover but it would pull out...ssooo I think if the Funworld 3D comes out to about 10 lbs it will be the best 3D type plane available for the gas sipping RCS 1.40. The problem was always to big for the 60 size planes and to small for the 1.20 size planes (73" wingspan-12 to 13lbs etc) Oh yeah...the Decathlon is not exactly a 3D plane LOL... 8^)

So how do you think this guy will hover with the recommended 1.20 4 stroke. I have a Saito 1.20 that I am going to put in it for the review.

Also, can you tell me what your plane weighs?

Thanks

Jim!

I flew my Ultimate today for the first time.
I have the RCS 140 on it.
The all up weight less fuel 10 lbs 7oz.
I have a 16oz fuel tank in it so the all up weight with fuel was 11 lbs 7oz.
This thing took of at ¾ throttle in about 20 feet of grass runway and you can go straight up with it, unlimited vertical.
So I know the RCS will have plenty of power for a 9 lbs plane.
I am just wondering if it will fit under the cowl.

Well, I'm glad to hear that about the engine. I know it flys my SSS around with authority and it's a great running eninge and easy to mount.

Sounds like it will go on after the review.

Default fun world

hi all,

I am interested in the fun world 3d to, i am going to get the plane today
i am thinking of fitting a 3w 24 cc gasoline engine on it. and all around digital servos a few high torque ones.

i will post a review of the plane, video and construction pics. in my web site
the only thing I am worried about is fitting the engine inside the cowl.
i will change the landing gear to a carbon fiber one laying around in my shop .

i estimate it will take the whole thing to finish.

check out my site.http://www.dubairc.com

Earl:

Did you program the plane for spoilerons and ailerons like the Ultra Stick guys do?

Nothing yet as I will be starting on it in about a week. I have to clean up a spot to put the thing together and I am finishing off a BL Hornet right now.

I will keep in touch.

I installed an RCS 140. Engine fit fine but the muffler is going to be a problem. I ordered the pitts muffler from RCS and don't have it yet but I am worried about both side clearance and cannister clearance from side to side at the base of the fuselage. Oh well, might have to fly it without cowl.

I am very much impressed with workmanship versus price. Last month I received my Aeroworks 31% ARF. It was 3 times the price of this plane and workmanship was lousy. After stripping the utlracote completely and seeing the abuse the wood took during construction, I sold it at a huge loss. This plane is diffently a keeper.

Have anyone else had problems with excess play between the wing tube and phenolic's in both the fuselage and wing? Mine has a lot which cannot be good.

Nice to hear that the RCS fits ok. I think you will find that the pitts will fit easily on one side, but the other will come in contact with the cowl. If you looked at the engine from the front, there is more muffler sticking out on the exhaust side due to the header.

It will be very close, maybe 1/4" or so. Either way, I (think) that you will need to cut out some clearance for the exhaust header and one side of the expansion chamber.

I'm guessing on that though. My SSS did not need the cutout, but the cowl is about 1/2-3/4 wider than the FW3D.

Good luck and let me know how you make out!

I just picked up mine, haven't looked at the wing tube fit yet. But in a previous plane, I had the same problem. I just applied 1 layer of adhesive monokote trim sheet around the tube to add thickness, so the fit is snug. You should try to see how much it takes to get to a snug fit.

I shall see how well my tube fits.

Default 3w 24cc fitted at last

hi,,

i was able to fit the 3w 24 cc gasoline angine at last,i'll post some photos soon. it was very hard to fit the engine. i had to fabricate a new engine mount. now i have to modify the cowling to accpet the mufler. It will take me another week.
Cant wait to fly it.

2.5 hp gas engine will do wonders .

Default 24 cc fun 3d

hi,

I'll see the weight when i finish the whole plane.
there will be lots of pics posted when i finish it.
i am changing the wire landing gear to aluminum one and it's raised by 2 inch from the original hight, the engine can take a 20 inch prop. the original landing gear is to short.

NOTE: i will post a preview maybe movie of the plane flying in my website.

Jim,
I was thinking about going to Carbon Fiber gear.
I was looking at 2 different ones.
The Moose, Midwest Cap 232, it is a little wide but the other sizes look OK to me.
And the TnT, Sig 4 Star 120 with better sizes but 2 oz heavier.
Here are the links.
http://moosecarbonfiber.tripod.com/products.html
http://www.tntlandinggear.com/store/...nding_gear.htm

What do you think?
I sure don't like the stock gear that is on it now!

Quick question. Is the kit designed for an inverted or sideways-mounted engine?

You an mount the engine either eay, but you would have to cut the cowl quite a bit. The kit is designed for inverted engie mounting.
