Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
I am looking for an aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke. I have this engine just sitting around.
I would like the plane to be aerobatic, fly where you point it. That being said, also would entertain a scale aircraft for the 91 4-stroke.
Thanks,
Ed

Just about any 60 sized airplane that you like.
I used that very same engine on the following
Four Star 60 (great match)
Seagull Extra 300 (nice match)
Seagull Edge 540, (the previous version, decnt match)
Funtana90 (seriously lacking though in the power department but for general flying it was fine)
SIG Hog Bipe (kit though, perfect match)
Carl Goldberg Ultimate (also somewhat lacking, but still flew well)
I'm sure the Tiger 60 would be a good match
I've seen one in a Hangar9 60 Mustang and fly it well.

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
I just bought the New Seagull models Edge 540 3D. It is the newer version with the plug in wings. The color scheme is white and Red with black and yellow trim. I got it at my LHS for 165.00. It comes with all of the hardwareneeded, including spinner, tank and wheels. I am not going to use the CA hinges but other than that I am going to build it stock. I am going to use my OS 90 4 stroker for this plane. The wingspan is 68.2 inches and the quality is great! I got this plane for my 10 year old son to fly IMAC this season with me. Should be perfect for the basic class......

I like that edge too. I would also highly recommend a World Models Ultimate 120R

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
For a long time, I had many .91FS class planes. Some of the planes I had an OS .91FS in are :
Kyosho Sukhoi - 6lbs (.40, yes .40 !) : Flew awsome with the .91 ! The Hobbico looks to be the same (almost)
Kyosho AgWagon - 6.75 lbs
World Models Super Chipmunk - 8 lbs : Flew it well and had good vertical but not unlimited of course
Kangke Staudacher - 8 lbs : Flew the plane fine but like the Chippy, had good vertical but not unlimited
Global Ultimate - 8 lbs : Flew it well, but again, the weight made it IMAC and not 3D
I seemed to use a 14x6 MA Classic the most but had a Graupner 13x5 3-blade on the Chippy with very nice results.
Hope this helps.

I'm a little surprised at this reveiw in that one of the misses was a covering isuue. As I have mentioned before in some of the beginner posts, Airborne Models (distributor for WM) is just over the hill in Livermore, maybe 20 miles from my house. I have their Cap 232 Castrol Aviator & I have also been to their shop & opened boxes to check out their Extra 300s as well as their new 50cc & 100cc Katanas. I have never seen anything by WM poorly covered, their toughlon covering seems to be very good to me & everyone I've seen was tight as a drum, just flawless!
Except the one my flying buddy just got from them the other day because of a "scratch & dent" deal. He got the .40 size Ultimate for $100 because a small hole had gotten poked in the wing That little hole saved him $50 & took all of about 5 minutes to fix.

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
The best plane I ever stuck an OS91fs in was a Great Planes Shoestring. Fast, smooth and aerobatic to a point. Not like an Edge 540 but still a lot of fun. It died in a midair last fall[]. I will have another one before summer is over!!!

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
ED :
Ive got the Magnum .91 on a Hanger 9 Corsair with a 3 blade prop, It flies very scale like, fast but not so fast its out of scale.
Ive never tried a 2 blade on it, I'm sure it would be faster.
I know thats not a aerobatic plane but its a nice scale looking plane.
I have the OS .91 on a Pica Jungmiester and it flies wright where you point it like you say with plenty of power for me , but just about everybody I know likes more power than I.
I just thought I would tell you of a couple of scale looking planes I have with that engine, but not really aerobatic or at least not near as aerobatic as the planes these other guys have.

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
Great Plane's Lancair. It is scale and aerobatic. It can fly slow or fast.
Mine currently has a 61 FX, but I have flown them with a Saito 91. The plane is smooth and goes where you point it. It will do all of the basic aerobatics and some of the harder stuff. The plane will hold knife edge at 4200 feet. The funnest thing to do with this plane is a slow roll the length of the runway 10 feet off the deck.
The secret is that this plane is easier to fly than it looks. It flies like a powered glider and is easy to see. The plane is cake to land, especially with the flaps. It is always a hit wherever it goes.

Ed,
I've got the OS .91 Surpass II in my H-9 P-47 on a 3 blade Master Airscrew 13/8 and I think you might like it. You fly at Ocala don't you? I'll be at Bellvue on Sunday and maybe I'll see you up there. That field has to be the best kept secret in Central Florida. (OOPS not any more) Kelly had his 44% Extra out yesterday, and was doing hovers and harriers about 5 feet AGL. Gawd, what a hoot. Give me a call or an e-mail.

You might think about that Lancair, although I love my Corsair and it flys great, the Lancair is both things your looking for, aerobatic and scale! But it wont look as neat sitting next to your
P-47 .

I have a OS 91 Surpass in my Tiger 60 and love it *( both plane and engine). The previous motor was a MVVS 61 on a tuned pipe and power is comparable, but not as finicky as the MVVS. The Tiger is aerobatic but not really a 3d'er.
That's what my Goldberg Sukoi 26MX with a saito 1.80 is all about!

RE: Aircraft for an OS 91 4-stroke
I had an OS91 in a Yellow Aircraft Extra 300 and it was a great combination. I just so happen to have a Yellow NIB Cap 232 for sale in the market ads right now... I can make you a nice deal, plus I'm in Florida so the shipping will be minimal. Also a perfect match for the 91. Check out www.yellowaircraft.com in any event. Great stuff.

Ed,
I would definetelly look at the Fliton Extra. I'm not going to say it's the best in it's class but for sure one of the best I've seen. Check the thread.
