Yeah no I think it if fine, anyone can do what ever with theirs. Just the one I have is bland and I plan on spicing it up abit. My .40 size SS has the standard scheme in with with bright (like burn your eyes out neon) orange. Great visibility, especially when you put chrome colored wing tips and leading edge on it.

Try going into the RC Guys Pitts thread and offering it up. A 40CC twin is a great-fitting engine for the Pitts. The cylinders would fall perfectly behind the coolant holes in the cowl. Just a thought.

Thanks. I'm not really a genius. I have a Valley View 40CC twin in my RC Guys Pitts, and it really is a great fit. Heck, I'm tempted to buy yours, but I don't have anything that needs it.

At a fly in this weekend someone brought a Giant SS, he and 3 of his friends have them and they are all using DLE 61's. Some mods were made to make them fit but...dang thats some power.

DLE 61's? That's just WAY too much power for this bird. I have a 30CC gasser (Syssa) in mine, and it leaps off the ground in about 5 feet. That's pretty close to the same power of a DLE 30 single. Here's a video of it - it's not a very good one - but it shows you how much power this GSS has with just a 30CC gasser on the nose.

And you can tell I wasn't giving it anywhere near full throttle to take off. The GSS has so much wing, and so much lift, it's a great performer even without a ton of engine. Too much engine, and all you're doing is controlling a rocket. Although this airframe can certainly handle the stress, it's just not necessary to over-power it that way, and I'm certain the handling characteristics would be adversely affected.

The entire reason I chose the GSS is to relax and do some scale aerobatics. I am older now almost 62 and my IMAC days are done. I also love the beautiful lines of the plane and a large introduction at the cowl is just not working for me. I know I will be happier with a 30 or a 35.

Hope the sale goes well. I chose the DLE 35RA because how easily it will fit, not to mention the power. But I'm squeamish about the whole project. I'm going to get back to mine. Bought carbon fiber rod and titanium ends. Just have to get back to it.

A 30, or even the DLE 35, is all the power you could want for it, and more besides. If you watched that video, you saw in parts of it that I could effortlessly torque mine through tying knots in the sky, and then fly away with no loss of altitude.
SDStick, you and I are at about the same juncture. I like to fly for myself these days, enjoying a pretty, excellent-flying plane over a super-scale, over-engined and overdone bird. That's why I love the GSS. It's my favorite all-around bird, and I really love the way a good low-wing model flies. Most of my others are bipes, which are fun, but they're demanding. The GSS gives lots of pleasure just watching it fly against the blue and white sky.

I can understand the urge to feel squeamish, but there's no reason to be that way. Trust yourself, and trust this plane to go together well, and make you look good in spite of any limitations you may fell you have. If you have already flown a few intermediate models, then you'll have no trouble at all with the GSS.
The only suggestion I'd make is that you choose a prop with a small bite (18 X 6 rather than 18 X 8, or 19 X 6 rather than 19 X 8, because the plane won't want to slow down with a big bite, and it will want to roll when idling, even in the grass. On pavement, forget it; it will want to roll away at idle with a big engine. I find that with my 30CC Syssa and an 18 X 6 prop it wants to move at idle - on pavement. No problem in the grass, but I have to make sure I have a low idle so it will slow down to land. That's always an issue with putting big engines on these models.

Hey Jim!
You are exactly right. My plane of choice has always been the Ultimate Bipe. I think the GSS is going to be perfect for me this time. It is going to be my winter build so I will have the luxury of time so I can do an extra good job. I will most likely choose the DLE 35RA for power.

My DLE 40 has been sold (On RCG)
Watching the video with the 30cc.... looks like the 30cc has plenty of power
What muffler would be good with the 30cc?
