No need to beef up the tail for 3D (in terms of building). But a solid 70 ounce servo for the rudder and elevator will be fine (such as a hitec 605 or equiv).
Your 91 FX should be plenty of power for hovering the Yellow 60-size series. My preference is a Saito 100 or YS 91 just because I prefer four strokes - the two strokes are great engines. The Saito 91 will work, but much like the OS 61 FX, it won't hover and recover.
Squeeze, squeeze, and squeeze those engines in there!

Saito 100 should fit
Most of the Yellow ARFS are VERY similar. I build a .60 size Giles with a Saito 100 and it fit perfectly, but not with the supplied motor mount.
That mount was meant for a 2 stroke. Go get a Dave Brown mount and use it as is thinner at the back and allows the engine to sit back about .5 inches more.
Oh, and I had similar worries about the fiberglass tail. But I've really started to wring mine out and it hasn't come off yet... Thing does awesome snaps, flatspins, etc... Going to try a blender next time the weather and I agree...
And the Saito 1.00 has PLENTY of power for this plane. Mine came out just over 7 lbs and the I have unlimited vertical and can hover just above half throttle with an APC 15x6.

Hinges
I also have been debating on the hinge issue. The slots they have cut make for a sloppy fit with CA hinges so I going to look for alternatives.
Also I want to thank those of you who provided advice on engines. I decided to go with the OS 91 fx. It fits well and gives me an excuse to buy a Hanger 9 Mustang for the Saito 100.
I will have the Edge ready to fly on Monday. If the weather cooperates I will post a flight review.

Wing Construction
Forgot to reply on wing construction. The wing is a traditional balsa construction one piece wing that is full sheeted with 1/16th balsa. It looks good and is light.

WARNING !!!! Potential inflight failure
Flew my plane today on its maiden voyage. 45 seconds into the flight the firewall seperated from the fuselage causing a significant difficulty in control. Fuse is now in two pieces. Examination reveals that there may be too little glue attaching the fuse and firewall. I suggest that everyone take a close look prior to flight and reinforce with epoxy big time. I will call Yellow on Monday and advise them. Hopefully they will help get my plane back together. By the way the first 45 seconds were great.

I'm sorry to hear about that. That would end a maiden flight kind-of suddenly.
Hope you get things taken care of.
Did you get any pictures of it prior to flight? I'd love to the see the bottom of the plane.

Tom,
When you call Charles at Yellow, be prepared for the following:
1. Describe the in-air separation 'action' and the follow-up inspection.
2. Be ready to ship the carcass back to Charles.
3. If you have any photos of the incident, include those in the package.
4. If you've tossed the plane already, you won't get any sympathy from a manufacturer... but with the crashed airplane parts, the distributor/manufacturer should have a good clue as to if it was a production-line error-induced failure.
5. Charles gets a few calls asking for new planes after crashes.. and only compelling evidence will get a replacement (and by the sounds of your situation, you won't have much trouble). Just warning that you'll need to be armed with evidence and ship back the remainder.

Thumbs Up for Yellow Aircraft!!
Spoke with Charles this AM. He is a true gentlemen. After a breif expalnation he agreed to supply the parts I needed free of charge. Although they won't be availible until late March I couldnt be happier with his response. I am able to repair the Fuse so he is going to supply a new cowl and wheel pants.
Yellow and Charles have earned a loya customer!!
