LOL.. Yea I had setup dual rudder servos before but this one was different and took some research to come up with the mix... Well build progress is the plane is all done other than I came up short two 12" servo extensions... The wing servos are in the middle of the wing so I had to use extensions there but I still need an easy connect point to the receiver, oh well been to wet to fly here anyway... I ended up putting an APC 13x4w prop on it...

This is about 16 hours build time and I took my time and built it real clean... Put it on my digital scales and it came up 7.17 lbs... I am real happy with that and that’s with a 5 Cell 6v Receiver pack...

Hey guys it's been a while since someone posted, I've been debating on putting a gasser on my Extra 330 and I finally found a cheap 26cc that weighs just under 40oz. It's made by Peak Models, so it would be a first for me. I think it would be nice to have a gas engine and also have a smaller fuel tank which will save weight. I currently run a 14oz Dubro tank for my Tower .75. I could get away with running an 8oz tank with this 26cc GAS engine. What do you guys think?? It's is 7oz heavier than an OS 120AX with muffler.

I will make a new CF gear for it if I need more clearance. I've been looking at this engine all morning. I might just shoot for the moon and get it. If it is too heavy or doesn't work with my Extra 330 then I'll buy a plane it will work on. Still will have my Tower motor for backup on the Extra.

So, I initially flew my phoneix arf, pretty nice, however I didn't have the most flared out landings and bent the landing gear. Is the gear weak? Should I rebend or try another supplier of gear?

I'd rebend and practice Touch N Go's and get used to your extra. I've done several harrier landing with the stock gear and it holds up well. Three point landings like in my video are at a trainer's pace. She will flare nicely when done correctly. If you're bending the gear you're not doing something right. Practice...Practice....Practice....

Well I finally got to maiden my Phoenix 330S this weekend... It was a blast.. Just a few clicks of up elevator is all she needed for level flight. I did have to turn my low rates down to 50%, I had them at 60% but this airplane has lots of elevator and it's still strong at 50% but I like my planes a little aggressive even on low rates.. At full rates well this baby will do anything you want.. The TH .75 really surprised me, even before full break in it is strong and has plenty of power to do large outside loops and the best of all no dead sticks.. I think this is a great motor and plane combination.. With six flights now logged each one has been better than the one before this is a keeper. BTW this plane lands like a trainer...

Hopefully I can get some video on the Extra next time out...

Happy Flying

Let's see some 3D Electron!!!!! I did my first tail touch the other day with my Wildhare Yak. Been looking at getting a ST G-90 for this plane to give it the 3D hoverability I'm looking for now. Tower needs to make a .90 sized version of the Tower .75 and I'd be all over it!!!!! For now I'll stick to hovering my extra with no pullout with my reliable Tower .75 motor. I finally got the courage to bring it Down On the Deck about 10 feet up doing rolling harriers, low low knife edges, and walls to a hover. I'll get some video and I may try an APC 14X4w to see if I can get that last bit of pull I'm needing to get down low.

My next project is going to be making a scratch built Yak 54 Composite. All fiberglass and Carbon Fiber with foam core wings, so I will be able to make a few carbon parts for my extra with the leftover pieces. I will work on a landing gear first then I'll move to more difficult things like props and spinners. I think I may make a CF clone of an APC prop, should be fun.

Hi all,

I hv one of this in the box awaiting for budget to get the engine. Reading thought this I hv not seen any comment from somebody who acctually used a SAITO 125 on it! So I was wondering if somebody who did it without any modifications can let me know how was the performance and any necessary tips.

I'm also wondering to hv a Mac smoke system with only 4oz tank for smoke. I'm planning also to buy a pitts smoke muffler to oil can get more heat and better smoke.

What do u guys think? My goal is 3D flying!

Tks, Mauricio

All that weight will give you a higher wingloading, but the Saito 1.25 should have enough power for it all. I'll be waiting to see some video of that smoke system! Get that thing put together and get some video of it.

I'm waiting on my Extra 330. I have finally decided to use an ST 2300 that I have laying around. It will be fitted with an on board glow to improve midrange transition. I know the plane will be a bit on the heavy side but it will also have huge thrust which for 3d is a must. I wonder if there will be enough prop clearance for an APC 18X8.

I'll get you a picture of my extra with a ruler to show how an 18" prop will be. I'm also working on my video of me flying this morning.

Anyone else have video of their Extra??? Seems like I've been the only one.

I figured out why RCUniverse messed up my link. THEY SENSOR YOU!!!!

You can't say F l y i n g G i a n t s.com on here because it's a competing website.

Here is the corrected link.

http://www. f l y i n g g i a n t s .com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=30311&cat=504

Don't forget to delete the spaces before and after "f l y i n g g i a n t s" in the web address.

I also got a new video of my Yak 54 too.

I'm about to finish building my Extra. Gonna put an OS 120AX as the power plant. Anyone know what is the best prop to use with the 120Ax for 3D?

17x6 wood or APC, and the 17x4W APC. Most people run the 17x6 prop and get the prop in the low-mid 9000's rpm. Either way you will have tons of extra power on this little extra.

Oh ic.. thanks for the advice. But i read the manual of the 120AX and the recommended prop range is only 15X10 - 16X10. Is it ok to run it with a 17?? Sorry i'm just going into nitro so i'm not so familiar with how engines works..

Well another great weekend of flying the Phoenix Extra 330S.. I have to say the TH .75 does a good job but really no 3D power.. Well after talking to one of the club members about power plants, I am going to convert this model to electric..

Here is what I have on order..

Great Planes Rimfire 50-65-450 Out-Runner Brushless
Great Planes Brushless Motor Mount Large Motors
Phoenix HV-85 Brushless Motor Control
16X8E APC prop
Thunder Power 4500-6SX-TP-25C Handles 112.5 amps continuous
Astro 109 Lithium-Poly charger with LCD display (I had a triton but it will only charge 4 cell li-polys)

I will start attaching some photos as the UPS man shows up with my new parts..

This should give me unlimited vertical...

Can't wait to see your conversion on video. That will be sick vertical and QUIET! Let's see those photos!!!
I am going to put a 26cc gasser on mine. It will weigh less than the st 2300 some of the guys are running, and I will only need one can of fuel when I go fly.

Cool, I can't wait to see that setup as well... I thought about gas and then was watching a club member fly a 28% Yak electric at the field and said to myself I have got to go electric.. I ordered most of the parts on Sunday the otheres on Monday, so I should start getting some of the parts in hopefully Thur.. I will post some photos as I convert it over to electric... Wished I could have gotten a new cowl for it though, they are on back-order at tower right now..
