RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Ok brothers in flight,
This is my take on the bird.
Only 2 short flights in. One landing to change my pants and the other to check for bean damage.
I put it to low over beans and managed to plow through about 15 rows (sow bean) but managed to land the damn thing.
Boy does this thing drop to nose at slower speed when landing. I got the balance right, any thoughts on this one?
Steve
The guys at the field now call it the "bean dip maneuver"

Really that is a surprise... Mine lands like a trainer... What is your planes weight mine, currently mine weighs in a little over 7lbs...?
My guess it's wing loading, CG balance, or elevator rates, this plane should land soft and easy...

I got the balance right
It should not drop due to a thrust line, it's got to be the CG being too far forward. As you saw in my videos it lands like a trainer....3-point landings all day long.[8D]

wc524 ,
I watched your video and you never land it so I cant tell!
You may have a point about the CG to far forward, I will check it out when it stops raining.

130mm back of the leading edge. It is not tail heavy enough for me still.

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Well I took my electric Phoenix Extra 330S out this weekend and it is totaly amazing.. I can hover at half throttle... It takes like 15 feet to take off.. Vertical is so totaly unlimited it's crazy... I need to get me a video camera or digital camera that does video so I can show this electric conversion in action.. The guys at the club were amazed at the unreal power this setup has. I am getting 10+ minute flights almost all 3D flight with no problem at all. I am thinking of converting my whole hanger to electric as there is no mess and no dead sticks..
Here is the completed Phoenix Extra 330S electric..
The setup is......
Great Planes Rimfire 50-65-450 Out-Runner Brushless
Great Planes Brushless Motor Mount Large Motors
Great Planes SS-80 HV Brushless Motor Control
15X8E APC prop
HECell 4000-6S 15C continuous 22volts
Astro 109 Lithium-Poly charger with LCD display (I had a triton but it will only charge 4 cell li-polys)
Output is 1268 watts on my wattage meter and plane weighs in at 8lbs 2oz..

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Yeah, my landing gear is sucking. To be more precise my landing is sucking with this plane. I don't know why but it's the hardest bird I've ever had to time the flare correctly. I'm always too early or too late. Mine just doesn't sink like other planes I've had. The only times I've had good landings with this plane are with dead stick approaches.
My landnig gear went from having scurvy to a plane doing the splits! I just take them off and stick them in the vice. go fly, repeat. It's starting to get old.

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I am putting together my Phoenix 330S with a supertiger 90 engine. I understand that the engine mounts at 270%, but when installed it does not seem right. The center of the engine is to the left of the center of the fuse when looking at the nose. The cowl has to be cocked way to the left to clear the engine to a point where you can see the cowl is misalligned. The cowl does not fit very well at this angle. Has anyone had this problem?

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I got a new engine for my Extra. It is a SK90 two stroke. It runs like a champ. I am using a 15x6apc prop. The thrust is fantastic. It will go vertical for days. I got a few pictures from a guy at our club.
Knife edge passes are real clean. It has plenty of power for everthing that my skills can handle. The new motor took the place of a TH75. The Tower motor is good too, but spinning a two inch longer prop is nice.
sorry for the double pictures, first time uploading photos []

I am removing my ST 2300 and installing a ST G 90. The 2300 was just too big, too much power for the airframe and the pilot

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Hi there, i have finished putting together the 330, it balanced great at 120mm with tank in rear part of tank location, engine 61 fx os, battery a 5 cell in back tray. I cured fire wall with 30 minute epoxy, tried to put a simpe¿le onm board glow plug driver but it did not work with either sub c rechargable or c battery will see later. notece the baffle on right side of engine compartment this to help on redirecting most of the air flow towards the engine head.

here are some more pics, here you can see the onboard glow driver simple battery and tongue swich controlled by trhottle servo arm it turnons on when 1/4 carburetor opening.
the wheel covers and landing gear fairings will be install after the tryout flights
on board glow driver one battery 1.2 rechargable the c cell does not worked for me. the orange cable is twisted on the glow plug nipple and heat shrinked and tied with nylon strap. the black cable goe to mass fo engine anywhere and the contorl is a switch . the swicth is glued to servo and tied wit the pink nylon strap.
did evryone reversed the carburetor position _???

No video because no plane... I crashed it back a month or so ago. I lost the pull-pull cable on the rudder during take off it snapped rolled the rest is history, word of advice don't use the cheap hardware that comes with the plane. It was a shame it was a great flying 60 size electric..

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
electron , sorry to hear this. Did you get a new one?? I was supposed to get Mine today but UPS didn't show!!! I have been following this thread for the last couple of weeks when I saw it and because of this thread I decided to get it. Looks like a great lil plane. I have a Saito 125 waiting. I was curious about the hardware.. So,it is no good??? I thought the Pull-Pull would be great.is it not strong enough???
I was disappointed that so few have held an interest in this plane. I have been hoping to find one plane that was just "ME" and get another one as a spare then fly it like I rented it..It is such a pretty bird.
I'm using all the tips and tricks I found here on Mine..I will post some pics in a week or so, just in case anyone is interested.. Best Regards, MG
