rdutari if you want about 10 min of flight time make sure you change to a bigger fuel tank, I used a cilinder tank 325cc from a crashed fliton edge 540 kit that I haved it just fitted perfectly in the back of the cowl secured by velcro straps..good luck!

yeah the landing gear is weak, I had some normal landings on it and it bends very easily and tends to be very hard to get straight, I have installed 2 new ones and was wondering wich landing gear could I use to replace it, is kind of an rare design but maybe another plane may have something that fits, just if someone has done it please let me know

Bob,
I am probably dense, but which of the 2 Fliton Extras gear are you suggesting, the #235 Fliton Extra 330, or the #248 Fliton A.J. Extra Main Gear?
Thanks.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply and the info.... 2 pieces? The GraphTec (and maybe the Fliton too) come as 2 piece gear? Do they overlap at the bottom of the fuse?
Thanks.

No I don't have a picture of the installation because I haven't done it on this model. However, suffice to say you won't need the present bolt and blind nut in the middle, but you will need drill a couple of holes on each side and add a couple of bolts and blind nuts to each side to attach the gear to the plywood LG plate. Very straightforward, and you will see what exactly needs to be done when you have the CF gear in your hands.

z-plane, I have read your comment, you said you dont want a problem engine. You also said that you havent flown in a while, and i am fifteen years old and have a tight wallet. So i have always opted for the Super Tigre brand engine. I have three of their engines right now and the reason i LOVE them is : they are CHEAP and very RELIABLE, they are very easy to tune, and there sturdy, i have only broken one , and thats because (i flew full throttle into a brick wall!!!),lol. but anyway like i said i have a tight wallet and its unbelievable how these engines are inexpensive compared to O.S. , i have three of these bad boys and there stayin with me forever, and they have been awesome in performance and reliability.

I have used Super Tigre engines with a little success but have never been able to solve the transition problem going from low speed to high speed! The OS engine althought higher in price transitions excellent. If Super Tigre providied a better carb they would easily outsell OS.

I get to make some repairs to mine, thanks to an uncooperative Super Tigre... Anyone happen to know what the covering is (I think it's Ultracoat) and what the colors are? Please don't tell me Blue and Grey! ;-)
Thanks!

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I have a question about building the Phoenix Extra 330S ARF 60 -90. While assembling the ARF, I noticed the the stabilizer in the kit that I have appears to have been assembled with the portion that mounts to the fuselage upside down.
The relatively flat surface that exactly matches the shape of the cutout in the fuselage is coated with red white and blue Oracover and the curved surface that matches shape of the cutout of the rudder block is coated with gray Oracover.
If I attempt to mount the stabilizer with the multicolor side on top, the incidence angle for the stabilizer is in question, since a curved surface of the stabilizer is placed against the flat surface of the fuselage.
I called Hobbico and described my issue and they kindly sent me another tail set. Unfortunately, the second stabilizer is build exactly like the first one and still has the problem of indeteriminant incidence angle.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's just me doing something wrong or that there is a production run problem with the kit.
I can borrow an incidence meter and set the stabilizer up to have the same incidence when mounted multicolor side up as it has when mounted inverted. There will be a lot of epoxy filling the gaps. The airfoil of the stabilizer and elevator look reasonably symmetric, so I believe that will not be an issue either way.
And my question.................
Has anyone else noted this issue or am I just doing something wrong?
Pete

I recall that the saddle for my horiizontal stabilizer had the same issue. I sanded the middle down until the stabilizer laid flat.

Thanks for the response to my question about the fit of the stabilizer. It has taken a few days, but Hobbico/Great Planes Airsupport reviewed my question and concluded that the stabilizer had been made incorrectly in both tailsets and is sending me another set that they have verified to be correct.
In the meantime, I filed away some of the mounting surface and set the incidence of the horizontal stabilizer to 0 degrees. I used plastic body filler to fill the rather large gap between the stabilizer top surface and the rudder block. Everthing is now set at the correct angles and rigid. Now if I could only have mishap damage limited to the tailset ....I'd be in great shape, since I have so many spare parts (;^))

Do you know or did they give any indication of if future E330 ARF packages will have the corrected tail now?
Thanks-

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
For help I'm sharing this setup only posting it because is kind of a sweet spot setup for the plane wich I have come up after 34 flights.
I have moved the cg 10mm back from the manual recomendation, and using full throws with 90% expo on all surfaces, a saito 100 using 30% heli fuel using a fliton 320cc cilinder shape tank
I also haved add 1 grade of uptrust to the engine mount with a 15x6 pro zinger wood prop getting 9500 rpm
the low rate throws are setup as recomended by the manual with 50% expo on ailerons and 35% expo on elevator and rudder
I trimmed the canopy and my dry weight is only 6pounds 4 oz
post stall flying has improved along with a very stable feeling on harriers and stall turns this is a very 3d capable plane
I tried to change the landing gear but the stock one can hold up to normal landings if you get good speed entering the strip, try to avoid stalls while landing this one
I'm using 5 jr ds821 on all surfaces and trothle along with a hitec 5645 on rudder
any suggestions
sharing knowledge always help
there are some pictures of the radio gear installation after being modified for adjusting the cg just wondering why I can't upload them now

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Has anyone built this plane with the O.S. 120 AX, I plan on putting one in mine and would like to hear from people who have actually put a 120 AX in the 60 size Phoenix 330S.
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Hi guys, i was searching on the internet for a plane for my super tigre .90! well i came around this plane and read this whole thread[X(]!! , well since it is cheap i couldnt resist it. so im buying it in the morning!!! My setup will be a ST G .90 with either a 14x4 or a 15x6 , im looking for 3-d so maybe ill use the 15x6, im also going to use jr ds821 servos on the elevator and rudder,(i bought 4 of these servos, maybe ill "edit" the plane and use 2 jr ds821 on the rudder????) maybe, maybe not. well ill use standard spektrum servos on the ailerons and throttle, hopefully that will good enough for 3-d!!!! i hope so. but for 3-d flying are you guys setting the C.G. back a little for better 3-d "holdability", i dont know, i might.??, but all in all its a good looking plane , i am also going to do a black design on the bottom of the plane! then i should be able to see it, but i hope the plane ships fast and hope it comes with everything in the box not damaged!!, I CANT WAIT!!!

Chuck, some guys have put Saito 1.25''s in this plane, so it will fly with the weight. Power will be absolutely insane with a 1.20 2C. I fly mine with an OS .91FX and it flies great at 7lb 8oz (measured on a digital postal scale).
