Thanks for the link to the battery. Small things like that I will buy from my LHS to save on postage costs from the USA.

Sorry Jose that was a typo, there isn't meant to be two dots after hotmail!

I have had an email from Tower Hobbies, so I can now save $175 off my order which I am very happy about, I have added the Robart strut to my order. Ak models no longer have the plane on their site However I will buy it from the UK instead. I will be placing my order within a couple of weeks hopefully, getting excited now

Default RE: CMP Cessna 182 Building Thread>the best scale Cessna 1.20 size ARF that is on the market!!!

Hey Guys

I had a gr8 weekend. my CMP cessna was finaly maidend and she realy flies gr8.

Here is sum back ground.
I am by no means a experienced pilot. At present I only have maby 15 solo flights. All on a 60 stick. LOL my landings are more on the grass next to the landing strip than on the strip.

I bought this plane second hand just for the engine because i am building my first plane a Hawker Typhoon and this one has a 180 Saito 4stroke just what i need.

The cessna was built , engine mounted but no servos. original owner never flew it.

Firstly thanks to all the guys making this thread so helpfull and intresting.
Thanks to Jose for fast and friendly advice.

So i was thinking the plane is built might as well try and fly it. I installed Jr servos and reciver running a 1800mah 4.8v JR bat.
I also added a onboard glo with 4800mah modivied 2.4v bat. (bat was 4.8v)

My CG works out at exacly 90mm added a few grams of lead on the motor( 4 blocks bolted to motor mount)
My ailerontravels worried me only had 20mm up and 25mm down. rudder ok 35 to 40 mm. elev ok 35 to 40mm.
I set my end points as follows:

Aile 20mm,20mm 40% expo
Elev Full,Full 40% expo
Rudd Full,Full 40% expo

So i put every thing togeather and hoped for the best. lol

After spending 2 days reading and struggling to programm my 2 servo ailerons and 2 servo flaps( lol shows how much i know) all was ready to go.

Sumwere in this thread i read that a good flap setup was 25mm flap and 1.5mm elev and then 50mm flap and 3mm elev.
Every one worned me flaps down planes so i changed my setup to:

1. 15mm Flap 2mm elev
2. 30mm Flap 4mm elev

2.0 sec delay so u have time to react to changes.

MMMMM Now i just needed sumone to help me and maiden the plane for me.

On sat i took it to the field but we had a nasty wind so i ended up just setting the motor.
Saito 180 4 stroke 1610 prop
Running gr8 with on board glo

Sun morning

Conditions perfect

A experienced pilot took it up for me.
trimmed it out nothing majour. lol it was looking good. all worked fine she was just to fast on aprouch. tried flaps. no surprizes but still a bit fast.
She landed no damage.

He reported she was gr8 and a joy to flie so i decided to take her up.
Changed a few settings to suite my skill level.

Aile 20mm,20mm 70% expo
Elev Full,Full 40% expo
Rudd Full,Full 40% expo

1. 25mm Flap 3mm elev
2. 50mm Flap 6mm elev

Wow what a gr8 plane. I did 4 flights. With full flaps she slows right down. easy to land and take off. Flies straight and tru.
LOL There is no way she is going to get choped for spares. so guess i still need a motor for the Typhoon.

All i am realy going to look into is a bigger tank I only get 5 to 6 min at present.

Hope all this makes sence.

Contact me if u need more specifics  FanieB@amplats.co.za

Here is a new vid of me flying my cmp cessna. It now sports a Fuji 24bt gasser engine instead of the 120 thunder tiger pro. Not as much power as the glow engine but really runs like a swiss clock!
The vid was taken late in the evening and it was getting very dark. The camera brightens things up alot. I forgot my y harness to plug in the wingtip lights - that was very dissapointing.
I need to get a new cowl and spinner for this bird after the changeover from glow to gas.

Hi everyone, does people still post on here, just read all the 39 pages of this thread, I have just placed an order for my CMP 140 Cessna, there is a trove of great info here, I'm thinking of putting a CRRC PRO.GF501 50cc Gas Engine, will it be to powerfull for this aircraft, or the 26cc version of the make. also does anyone know where to get a full light setup. 2x Nav Lights (Red & Green) 2x Landing Lights. 2 Red Srobes (Underbelly & Top of wing) 3x White strobes (Both Wing Tips & Rudder)
Thanks guys

I build my own lights system, get some Leds max volts 1.5 volts in red green and white and a couple of red flashing. I bought mine at radio shack for less than $6.00. if you use1.5 volts all you need isone 1.5 volt battery and will last for ever. All the leds and battery holder was about $12 dollars,For the head lights look for a miniature led flashligt remove the lens and asembly and install on thecouling. All thiswas done in one evening. This Leds will last for !00,000 hrs.(will aoutlast the plane)> I see you are in the UK for shure there is an electronict store that can provide you with Good Bright Leds. I could send some more pictures if you like. Thanks

I am using a Saito 120 on one and a Sa1to 150 on the other. there realy is no difference in flying, I did moved all sercoes to the back of the firewall, I believe there are some pictures pousted here, in previous pages. This helped with keeping weight down. I used pull/pull cables. This will eliminate the problems with elevator and rudder. Will give you a very solid moving surfaces, and at same time eliminate weight. Thanks

I'm posting these pictures, they might help. this is the third modification I have done to this planes. There is a great improvement now. With Pull/pull cables and all the weight as forward as I can.Was able to eliminate 1.5 pounds of weight.

Thank you very much nicolau for you comments, pics and help. I have built 3 aircraft from scratch, ie from plans hours and hours of building to hopfully make somthing that looks like an aircraft lol. was going for a gas engine cause the price for model glow fuel is like 10x more exspensive.

Ghostwhisperz,
Hi, The 50cc engine you want to put on this plane is WAYYYYY too much. The firewall isn't beefy enough and it will surely vibrate and rip this plane apart. I would put a 26 to a 35cc engine in it. I have a 24cc in mine and although it flys this plane greaat, a 30cc would be better. I have a 52cc taurus in one of my IMAC/3D planes and I know what this engine is capable of, therefore, I wouldn't even think of puting it on my cessna LOL! A gas engine is a great choice for this plane although a two stroke glow engine flys it better IMHO but with the price of glow fuel these days, the reliablility and the mess it makes after the flight, the gasser is the right choice.

@HUNTERANDJEFF, Thanks for the info of the engine size, I thought it would be abit much for it, the price for the 26cc to the 50cc was about $20 or so. Will get the 26cc then, dont know where to get the sad engine from a model store but ebay are selling them, here is a link of one, dont know anything about gas engines so have a look and tell me if its worth a buy. not sure how long it will be on there.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CRRC-26CC-RC-A...item3cb574ae3a
hope the link works

I would like to ask if anyone knows if I can fit the topflite cessna 182 cocpit and interior inside the cmp cessna 182 140
will post some pics as soon as my new camera turns up.

Thanks everyone and happy flying

Hi Tom,
It's been a long time - good to hear from you!
A 20cc would get this plane off the ground but it would fly like a pig. Well, it would fly like a real one LOL. I have been in alot of full scale cessnas over the years for my work and they all fly like pigs but are very stable LOL. I wouldn't do it. My 24cc fuji is alright but that is about it. I wish that it had more power. When a person gets used to this plane and it flys well, most would want more power for some fun stuff.
I was working with a guy in Australia recently on his Cessna. He put a DLE 30cc in his. He had a great setup but lost the plane on the maiden because it took off early before flying speed was fast enough for stable flight. The DLE 30cc could have gotten him out of this trouble but the plane hit a pole and smashed into the ground. I feel really bad for him for all the trouble he went through building this plane to loose it on the maiden. If you are a very experienced pilot and want a super scale flight, the 20cc would be ok but doesn't have enough power to get you out of trouble. If you have seen my vids on youtube of my plane in flight, you will know what I mean by lots of ground speed before takeoff.

Do a search on google for that engine. Many reports of this engine. Most guys like it but early on, the engines were arriving with bent shafts but that was a couple of years ago and I think the problem was fixed. The Chinese want to sell their products and with negative feedback, they can't sell so they fix the problem so they will sell. Over the last 4 years, the stuff from China has gotten alot better but there are still some bum stuff still around.
The 26cc is perfect for this plane IMHO.

Like I said before, the best way to go is with pull/pull cables, this gives you a very positive throw no slop or slak on your surfaces, ie elevetor and rudder. Just run the cable from the servo arms to wher you want. Example.... fromthe rudder sevo arm to rudder right one cable, and another cable to and to rudder left.I use sulivan solder typethey will last forever, plus they have a sleve where the cableruns through. This eliminates radio noise if the cables rub agains each other.try running as straight as you can. Look at the pictures. you can see the right and left side of the rudder. As far as engines I do not have Gas engines only use Glow, I am flying onecessna with aSaito 120, there is more than power to fly it. Remember this plane was not designed to do3Ds,wings are not strong, the spars on this wing are balsa, and not the best balsa. Thanks
