GP Wagstaff 300s/ GAS MOTOR SET UP?
I don't think there is any such thing as "Best" , it is a personal preferance. In gas engines, the popular choices out there seem to run from a 2.4 to 4 ci with many choosing one of the popular 3.2 engines such as BME, Taurus, ZDZ, 3W, DA, Brison or First place.
My own personal choice was a Taurus TS-52 although it probably would have been a DA-50 if they would have been available when my plane was built.
These are all great engines and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, just pick the one that appeals to your criteria the best, bolt it on and prepare your face for BIG smiles.

Hi guys,
What kind of mount is used with the BME50?
Also which 50cc engine is the easiest setup meaning:
it comes with or is easy to get a usable muffler
easy to mount
easy to get the throttle linkage on
I have a zdz40 and that rear carb is a bit of a pain to deal with imo. It also makes it hard to soft mount.
I've even been looking at the G45 so that I don't have to mess with another battery but it looks like it needs a different muffler and maybe an engine mount also and it might not be any more powerful than my zdz40
Fuji makes one that is slightly bigger (46.5) and it looks like it may even be heavier than the G45

I just saw a ModelSport video magazine where they put a 3W-50 in one....easy installation. They even mentioned something about having the engine cutouts on their site in pdf form for download. I don't have the video (lhs was showing it) but it might be worth the $6 to see the details on installation.

To csintexas and loucel,
I used the Hanger 9 ultra mount and 1 1/4" standoffs to mount the BME50. This is a 2 piece metal mount with slots cut through the arms so you don't have to drill them for the engine mounting bolts. I would think that a radial mount set up would be easier, its my only complaint so far about this motor, that it is a beam mount. You do have to cut out the bottom of the cowl to clear the motor, there are pictures of the required cut out posted way back in this thread.

loucel, sorry, I'm the last person on the planet without a digital camera. Posts 623, 629 and 630 in the other extra thread show the cowl cutout for the BME 50 with the standard exhaust diverter. I have the pitts muffler so my cutout is narrower but longer.

He has yet to fly the Patty.
We kind of jumped ahead of ourselves, (only been flying for a few months and not flying that much due to the weather here in New England).
We are finishing up his Ultra Stick 60 today and He will fly that for a bit before he takes the Patty up for it's maiden flight.
We did take the Patty to the field one day to fly it. It ended up being really windy and he backed out, (I'm fairly sure that was a good thing).

Which standoffs did you use?
Did you have to enlarge the 4 holes in the HAN 2033 Ultra Mount that go to the standoffs?
What size bolts did you use to attach standoffs to the firewall and mount to the standoffs?
Thanks,
Tango

Tango, I got the standoffs from Don's Hobbies, only because I got the motor and prop, etc. there also. A bolt goes all the way through these standoffs, then into blind nuts in the firewall. Don (from the store) recommended 10-32 bolts, which I used, but I must tell you that they seem undersized and I am going to re-do it with 1/4-20 bolts. Either way, you will need to drill out the holes in the hangar 9 mount. The standoffs are already drilled out to fit 1/4-20 bolts. The bolts should be 2 1/2" long. You will have 1/2" sticking out beyond the firewall. That way, you can add a little extra ply to the back of the firewall for the blind nuts, and possibly add an extra nut to back up the blind nut.
Call up Roger from Aerografix, his standoffs dont require a through bolt according to what I've read here, it is probably easier and lighter.
