Airraptor - those speeds are incredible. This is with the 59" Revolver, right? Did you reinforce the plane at all? Would love to see that - and you're doing it at 50'?? I know how sensitive that plane is - the slightest touch at that speed would probably be disaster. Still, would love to see it. Maybe I'll put the .91 2S that I'm using now in the Rev 70 in the 59", and put a 1.6 2S I have laying around into the REv 70. Might be interesting.

yes i did redo alot of the plane. look on page 100 at the top for some pics.

I made a all new horizontal stab and elevator out of three shets of balsa. two sheets length wise and then sheets crossed grained in the middle.
the ailerons were shorted 8 inchs 4 on each side. the trailing edge of the wing was sharpened as much as can.
i shortened the fire wall by an inch or so. then fiberglassed it with two layers.
the gear mod i do is back around page 50 or something but its an easy fix. i feel this is the lightest and best method of fixing the gear on this plane. can go in detail for if like.
i put a high torque servo in aft fus area. the linkage is inline with the fuselage so its out of the airstream. it uses a short linkage.

Oh yeah you need to pull the balsa servo mounts out of the wing and clean the foam out till get to the upper surface of the wing sheeting. epoxy the mounts back in and use bass wood strips on top of the mount and to the lower wings skin so they will not come out. anything much over 110 and they will work them selves out of the wing.

if i do another one i will take another 4 inches out of the wing. this will reduce the gap drag even more and provide a better flight control thats resistent to flutter.
I think my only weekness now will be thr rudder which i left stock. Also all hinges are regular dubro ones. i have four on each elevator half, 4 on each aileron and 4 on the rudder. all are pinned with tooth picks.

I have another cowl that i am redoing by removing the check on the cowl.

Just watched your video again - holy CRAP that is wild! Looks like a BLAST. And you had a couple of high-speed passes that could not have been more that 5 feet off the ground. Sick!! Nice flying.

no video of any indication of mph reading but on page 100 near the bottom is the one i put on you tube. I also have my LR1 doing 190 and another revo with on board camera.

I wanted the camera guy to follow me but he did for a bit then just held the camera still for the race.

Who has lost a Revolver to structural failure lately?

I haven't done any mods to mine (except landing gear) and it has held up to numerous dive after dive. I've owned it for two years now. It's my second one. I've even snap rolled it in a dive just for the heck of it. I snap it wide open on the level all the time. Maybe one of these days it'll explode but hey, I'm pretty impressed thus far.

Sorry I haven't taken any video of it lately with the .91 in it. Here's a year old one or so with the Saito in it.

Here's my buddy's 159mph run with his 12 lb electric monster. It just goes fast, nothing else. He's had it for a year now and done no mods but the gear as well. And his goes much faster than 120 on the level! My guess is 145 ish. It goes 140 up and 159 in a slight dive. We'll have to do some more video this summer cause that thing is simply retarded fast.
EDIT EDIT - After watching this video he didn't really dive it at all to get 159. I bet it's more like 155 on a perfect level flight. That thing is FAST!!

My first and secong revo had the Ailerons servo mounts come out almost crashed plane when servo just hanging out of wing.
My second one had a Saito 125 in it. I ran 45% on a 13x11 apc. The horzontal stab fluttered off in flight in a dive.

The early revos had foam in the stabs and rudders. the latter ones do not. Mine didnt have the foam at all. i have seen many with dowled firewalls and some werent.

All revos I seen need my mods to go fast and live.

So the guy may have the fastest one in electric but how many flights on it. I fly mine 4-7 times a day 3-4 times a week so i wanted to make sure it would last.

Do you really fly full throttle in a dive and snap it?
i have seen many come aprt for many reasons and I wanst going to leave it stock. I bet i could be over 160 in a dive easily

I'm pretty sure my revo is the latter version. Both me and the other guy on average probably fly ours about 2-4 times a week. Lots more in the summer, less in the winter - it averages out.

My buddy is actually quite amazed his hasn't exploded mid flight yet. He pilon races his (and absolutely destroys the competition), very hard pulls going through turns. He says he can see his wings flexing going around the pilons. Funny.

Yes, I have snapped mine before in a dive. Only once though cause man, it snaps hard! I do snap it on full throttle level flight all the time. It's all fun, if I kill it, I'll get another one - maybe the bigger one next time.

I don't have good video of snapping the revo but I have great video of snapping on of my other planes - I do the same with the revo too, check this out...

133mph today average. will put wire skid on and remove the gear and work on the pipe set up. looking for 12,300 rpm on a 13x11

Hi just been reading this forum very interesting i'm just about to build my second one i went with the ramfire motor suggested by GP runnin on 6s lipos in my new one i'm wanting to run a Hyperion motor might go with the HP-ZS4020-08 777Kv or might try the new heli motor HP-HS4025-0890 890 Kv but will stay with the 6s setup
I absolutly love the way this plane flys my original plane was clocked doing dives at 216 Kmh (132 Mph) i also have a H9 Sundowner bul i like the Revolver better

i did look at the bigger one and might get one later at the moment i only have a small car so no room to put i bigger bird in it i also only have electric planes do you have jets too
i have a couple of Schuebeler Fans and Lenher motors to suit for sale might put them in the for sale section your big Revolver looks good too have you flown it yet ??

Hi there not sure my local hobby owner had his radar gun there and he took a few speed readings at some dives i was doing at about 30 degrees i was only running a small prop APC 11X5.5 i would say around 160 kmh

sorry for your loss i have now flown my Sundowner 50 1/2 dozen times it's electric not ic but flys really nice not as acrobatic as my revolver but still a very nice sport plane i have a Hyperion HS motor (helicopter motor ) lots of power but cant really find the right prop for it it also seems to land much easyer will be flying today and hope to have some vid of it

Speaking of loss, had a rather rude April Fool's day morning - the total loss of my first 59" Revolver. Was running an OS FS-70, had just spent a week working on it, shortening the engine box. First flight back, about 2 mins in, was doing Cuban 8's - on the fifth or so loop I went inverted, pulled up to come around and lost control - still not sure what happened - it just started spinning straight down and I could not straighten out. Nosed straight in - the plane exploded on impact (as you can see). Fortunately I have another 59" and a 70" Revolver to get me by, but still painful and a shock. Happens so fast. Well, it's part of the sport.

Now, what plane to get to take it's place. A second 70", perhaps?

So sorry to hear about your lost!!! I know how you felt to try to recover and watch it go in. This weekend is a wash for me . We have a weather system that is giving us snow, rain, and high wind!! I would say to pick up another 70" Revolver!! I know you may never find out what happen,but don't let that stop you!! Like you said, this is part of this hobby!!
One thing I am looking at on both Revolver, is to have 2 servos for the elevators. I just don't trust the manual setup!! If the setup slip in flight, you are doom!!

Might have had a touch too much elevator throw. I've had mine snap out a time or two. I've decreased the elevator throw quite a bit. at 100mph it certainly doesn't take much....

That is ugly!!!! How is the engine??? Look like you had some soft ground to help the engine. That is a total lost!!
So sorry to see the pictures. The pilot look okay!!! But I see his tears!!!

It happens to the best of us. This was a couple years ago for me but it happened the same way, pulled to hard and it snapped rolled out of the sky. If you wait long enough it'll grow into another though!

RCFAN - Other than the wing, that plane looks fixable. Did you 30 min epoxy the crap out of the fuse, recover it with mono or trim, and order new wings? (The first time I "totaled" my first 59" Revolver - the one thats' in pieces again now - I nose dived into the ocean - the right wing burst into 5 pieces - and the right-mid section of the plane was destroyed. I rebuilt the midsection - fabricating many pieces from scratch - and also rebuilt the wing. However, the wing ended up weighing about twice of the other wing - used WAY too much epoxy - so could not use it. But did order a new set of wings. The plane ended up a bit heavier, but I had an emotional attachment to it now, as the plane that "came back from the dead". (not this time, though). Wondering if you did the same with yours.

I was lazy and just ordered a new plane. Actually I was mad because that was only the 5th or 6th flight for that plane, so it was more out of anger that I went straight home and ordered another one, even made it quick shipping. I felt ripped off. I learned from my mistake and paid attention to the recommended elevator throws in the manual the second time! Not aileron though, those are cranked up as far as they'll go. The replacement has been through one nasty dead stick in a hay field and had the landing gear pop out once, but other than that it has been a stallion and lasted me over two years.

I still have all the pieces to the original though and have been contemplating fixing it into an electric version. I have fixed worse, so it's just a matter of doing it. I'd probably order a new wing though, fixing the foam stuff scares me for how fast this thing goes.
