Does the GP Sukhoi size equal 25%?. I'm ready to plunk down $299 for a WildHare Extra 260. I would like to have a plane under 50cc's that would have a slower flight performance? Any comments from you veterans? Thanks Mikel-T

Well I have my wing halves together and the contorl surfaces hinged. It looks awesome. Now I need to turn my attention back to the radio compartment. I never had to tie two survos together for a rudder before. It built very similar to my Hobbico SU31 60 size plane. But I'm not sure on the belly pan. There not much instruction on mounting. The Great Plane has less balsa than the Hobbico for glueing. Now that it's together, I like the color schema even more. It should rock with the 46 gas engine.

And by the way it won't be just another YAK At the field!

Robotech, how did you come across a tinted canopy for your Sukhoi. Who is the plane manufactuer. I'd like to replace the shoddy one that came with my Great Planes Sukhoi. Please respond. MM

A ZDZ40F3A engine would work well in this....
Only 2lbs 11oz all up weight including igN.....
Saves almost 2lbs over a DA 50cc in this plane!!
That would make a big difference in the flying ability of this plane.

I just ordered my SU-31. It will be my first giant. I have spent hours flying my ".50" size HIROBO SU-31 and its been great.I bought it out of Towers "scratch & dent" stuff. I hope it's OK. I got a deep deal for having a damaged cowl.

Mike, I've reviewed the thread and it seems like you're one of the first ones up and flying. What engine do you have installed? If glow, did you pump it? I'm putting an O.S. 1.60 on mine and thought if it needs a pump, I may as well do it now. Thx.

Nice review in this month’s AirplaneNews. I don't see any video out there on the net on this model yet other than GP advertisements. I'm putting the finishing touches on the radio installation and balancing. I'm curious on what everyone plane’s weight end up at. I’ll be waiting for warmer weather.

I have the plane and ordered a Brillelli 46 today. This will be my second gaser, the first being a GP 80" Yak w/ FPE 2.4. I'm undecided on the servos yet. I fly sport but want to try some 3D so I don't want to be limited by my hardware choise. I will consider a optical ignition cut-off....

I just put my GP SU-31 on the scale with everything installed. Came out to be 13.5 lbs. I don't think that's bad with a gas 46 under the hood. Now just need to finish up the fine tuning, and get some good weather.

ledsled....

How did the balance turn out...Do you have two servos in the tail, or something midship.....?

I had to move the rudder servo up. It was tail heavy. I'll post some pitcures when I get a chance.

I went with an OS BGX 3500 with a Pro Zinger 20X8. Great combo and the plane required no added weight to balance!

I have mine set up with a DA50,I put the servos in the tail.I put the 4.8 volt sub c (for radio)on the engine box and the ignition battery 1500 4.8 v on the plate made for battery in front. The ignition went on the engine box...No spinner or wheel pants and got a perfect balance...The DA 50 of course has tons of power and is a bit overkill for this plane but it does fly great...

YA the DA50 makes it a rocket...It flys a bit fast but is not complete overkill...

I was seriously considering going with a gas engine, specifiacally the DA-50, but I am new to the larger stuff and prefered to take it one step at a time. I realize that when I finally do take the leap to gas I will be kicking myself for not doing it sooner. It is hard to break that comfort zone thing....
I only got a few flights on my sukhoi before the snow started up here so haven't really had a chance to crank on it yet. But it seems like is very reponsive and predicatable.
I am setting my sights on the new Hanger 9 and the DA-85 by fall.

I have a Cap 232 Sport with a hyde soft mount and a DA-50 and it flies great, no vibration and no tip stalls, it comes in slow and lands nice

wow, Clearfield Utah....I was stationed at Hill AFB for 9 years..

The negitive I read about the DA in the cap 232 was a guy in the RCU forums complaining (and he had pictures) that the torque of the DA was to much for the airleron to hold it in a hover. I don't remember what he was using for a prop or anything. The BGX handles my sukhoi really well. It is still breaking in and I still have the low speed set rich- but it is spinning a pro zinger at 7,900 RPM. I have been taking off with it set around 7400-7500. What prop are you using with the DA? and what is it tacking at?

I can hover at less then 1/4 throttle as far as the rpm goes i really cannot remember but it hovers and pulls a vrtical out of a hover out of sight and as far as flying, i took the ys-160 off cause i love to fly the cap 232 so much so i put the da-50 on it with a 21x10 as that is all i could get at the time, i then went to the 22x8 is what it calls for, i used the zoar 22x8 also i am just a sport pilot and my friend brent you can see fly his plane, he has two, one a yak with the da-50 and the extra 260 with the bme 110 i think, but you can see him fly at youtube under buffnshine and look for bonenurcac, he is an unreal pilot and he is the one that broke mine in and hovered it on low rates, i also use the hyde soft mount on all of my engines and even brent and other guys just could not believe the difference in the vibration and are getting one themselves, check him out, he is a really great guy and will help anyone out, the club has a bunch of great guys in it.

I am not familiar with that engine mount. I'll have to keep it in mind for my next plane.

Yah, I have seen some pretty good videos of the GP cap. It is a nice plane!

the plane brent is flying at nurcac is his yak 54 with his da-50 it is at buffnshink and scroll down just a couple of headings and it is under bone nurcac i just watched it and there is always a cross wind there, he likes to fly my cap with the da-50 cause it is 2 pounds lighter then his yak and i will have to get him to fly it and record it this summer, he is the guy that everyone wants him to test fly there plane for the first time, there are a few guys there like other clubs are really good pilots and such a pleasure to watch him fly

What kind of clearance and prop size do you all have on the prop on the GP Suhkoi.
