I suddenly remembered this little film that’s been sitting in my computer for two years. I put a GoPro in the cockpit of my Cub (and also on the wingtop to keep it from getting boring). Don’t ask me why I didn’t use the widescreen mode on my GoPro - an oversight on my part, I guess. I don’t know about you, but I think the stock pilot looks a little bored. A short clip, less than 3 minutes.

Just got my new 8" Tundra tires for the Cub.

They fit perfectly on the Dubro 1/5 scale rim.

Can't wait to fly it ....they weigh about 16oz each. Allot heavier than the stock setup.

But the look is too cool, and I'm sure they will make landing a little softer.

These are the 200mm Airtop wheel from France.

Weight is about 16oz each

Cost about $100 shipped per pair.

Inflatable, but I run them with no air in them.

Look a tad bit big. I think the 6 inch dubros work well for much less money plus the look more scale. Also the dubros are 1 pound for both so they are lighter.......just my 2 cents.

Yes 6" inch do work very well.

These are the scale equivalent of the 35" tundra wheel.

Hi, I'm running a power 160 on 10s with a 18x10 prop. Getting 13 min of slow flight. If I go to a 18x8 would I get more flight time? I'd still be at 2100 watts on the 18x8. Would have to turn the 18x8 a little faster to get the same slow flight but the calcs are showing less amps and more runtime. Any thoughts?

Well after 10 flights my leftlanding gear collapsed yesterday due to the springs being stretched. I didn't nor others feel that it was a particularly hard landing. No Damage done other than a split zoar prop. O-ring suspension conversion is now installed. Itworked well on my Sig 1/5 cub and I expect it will work as well on the 1/4 scale.

Every body will have to either get different springs or change over to O'RINGS or make up some bungee cords. The china springs stretch out and won't recover.

I had the same problem after about 10 flights.

I converted mine to O'RINGS and it is fine.

Welcome to the club of failed landing gear !

The stock springs are well known for being garbage.

I use one high quality spring and one o ring.

Remember to think "scale" when reworking the suspension.

You want them to be easily flexible.

Is the CG in the manual correct @ 4 1/2"?....I have the PNP version w/ G20 i need almost 9 oz in the nose to balance, is that correct?

I have the same pnp . I added a few oz up front also.
But later moved most of my electronics in the floor between the seats.
This allowed me to remove some nose weight.

Yes, 4 1/2" is correct. Mine flys good at that cg.
I have about 8oz added to the motor mount
Because of using the light dle 20.

I've had three so far, two currently in flying condition. DLE-20 in one, no nose-weight. Flies perfectly with a Xoar 17X6 prop. Will even fly OK with an 18X6 prop. Two 3200 Mah LiFe batteries located where the front seat would be, balances perfetly. Second one is a float-plane version, stripped and covered/painted with Solartex and a DLE-30 in the nose. Haven't had it to the lake yet, but it's ready to go. No balancing weight needed in any of them.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while! Tons of great info and suggestions, so thank you all.

I started building my H9 1/4 ARTF over four years ago (May 2008) but due to one thing and another (mainly the big C) I only completed it at the weekend. I have bought several power plants for it: an Evo 26GT2 and a Zenoah G200PU but sold both of these unused and went for an electric setup. I'm using a PPPO-5065 320 (2100W) on 8S1P 6000mAh 30C LiPos (two 4S in series) with a 16x8 JFX beech prop and a 100A opto ESC.

I went to maiden her yesterday in perfect conditions, 5mph wind and clear skys. The field was quite rough with 3" grass, but there was plenty clearance. Throttling up the tail lifted quickly and I let her take off herself. At about 5' above the ground the right side of the fuselage parted company (the glue along the cabin roof failed), causing her to bank to the right and nose dive into the ground at WOT! Damage was: cowl, prop, engine mount and wing tube written off, minor damage to the right wing tip and a few minor scrapes and tears in the Ultracote.

Thankfuly the cowl and wing tube are in stock so they're ordered, along with a new engine mount and prop. Amazingly the motor seems to have survived, it runs fine and the shaft is straight.

My question is, what's the best glue to use to fix the fuselage? I need to rebond the side with the canopy roof, and also put some bracing in there. I have all the usual, epoxy, white glue, CA and Gorilla, but not sure which would be best. Desperate to get her fixed and into the air next weekend!

BTW, is this the Du-Bro wheels?

I would use 30 minute epoxy; only use enough to butter the matting parts and you should be good to go!

Gorilla glue or any PU glue. It gets in the cracks and bonds well and is sandable when dry.

Thanks for the info. I used a combination of Gorilla for the main structural sections and 30 minute epoxy on some of the 90 degree mating surfaces and the door frame. Just waiting on the wing tube and motor shaft (it was very slightly bent) and she'll be ready to go. My 6" Dubro's arrived, so I'll get them fitted as well.

I've seen a few references to aileron reflex on the cub. Can I clarify, does this mean I mechanically adjust the ailerons a 1/4" up? Also, should I set my ailerons for a higher upward travel than down? I'm using two channels for ailerons so I could easily do this in the radio.
