Sorry I have not gotten back to you. My pc crashed and I had to buy a new system. I'm still trying to learn the new Windows 8!! A whole different world to me!!
Watched your video of the flap operation. You did a super job with the install. Very scale looking with the hidden push rod linkage and servo. I didn't think doing the bottom hinge method. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished Super Cub.

Does anyone know a source of a wing strut set for the Hanger 9 1/4 scale J3 Cub? I found one at a shop in the UK, but shipping was eighty pounds. That must be about $160+ and that was for shipping only. The set was 75 pounds by itself. I am hopeful I can find one somewhere else with at least a lower shipping cost.......... Any ideas? Thanks. Apparently not. In the "Discontinued" listings they say "Out of Stock." I guess since they discontinued the 25% J3, there is no more parts support for it save what's left over..

Just as a quick entertainment I thought I would post some pictures of my Hanger 9 1/4 scale J-3 Cub that I just finished putting together. I made some substitutions along the way. There is a DLE30 with JTEC Pitts Wrap Around muffler, LiFE battery packs for receiver/servos and ignition, and some heavy duty DuBro control horns for rudder and elevators.
I installed the ignition module, the choke servo, and the ED Regulated Opti-KIll receiver switch on a removable tray fit into the forward section of the fuselage under the instrument panel. The stock fuel tank was replaced with a Roto-Flow tank set on CG inside the cabin where the front seat would normally go. The 1100 mAh Life battery pack from Electro Dynamics goes under the floor boards in the forward compartment. In the next aft compartment I wedged in a 5000 mAh Life ED pack - both well wrapped in foam.
I had to build an internal cover box to go over the 5000 mAh battery as it is2.1"X2.7"X2.1" and stuck up out of the compartment. I used a Spektrum 12020 receiver and the ED opti-kill transmitter on the radio shelf. Under the radio shelf are the three servos - one for pull-pull rudder, and two for elevators. Since the heavy duty rudder horn measures 3 inches wide, I had to use a 3 inch servo arm on the rudder servo. That interfered with the arms on the elevator servos, so I had to build an elevated servo stand/holder for the rudder servo.
Due to the routing of all the various servo wires, battery cables, I ended up with the standard receiver shelf cover and a constructed slanted cover for the exposed wiring... No rear seat, no pilot. (I had picked up a perfect scale puppet of Achmed the Dead Terrorist to use as a pilot, but, no room and its pretty heavy anyway. I installed a warning light, illuminated when the receiver battery is on, in the battery cover and an ignition-on warning light in front of the instrument panel. Finally, I installed the on-board tachometer on top of an addition to the instrument panel so it is visible from outside the plane.
On first CG check - lifting through the wind tube tunnel - the plane is way tail heavy. Still have to work on that.
Wings fitted and nylon wing screws replaced by Secraft wing studs with spin-on bolts. Studs BVM aeropoxied in place. Makes wing install and removal much much easier and quicker.
Main problem now is how to work around the airplane in my narrow little shop.

Mike,
I've got an unopened wing strut set for the H-9 J-3, 1/4 scale, still in the original packaging. I bought it as a backup, but as I only fly the plane a couple of times a year at float flys, it's not getting much use. The part number on the package is "HAN4562." Is that the one you need?

Oops! Here is a correction to post 1505. The regulated optical kill switch is Smart Fly, not Electro Dynamics. Sorry for the mistake, I was thinking ED while trying to describe the Smart Fly item. I might be getting so confused because all the folks at both places are so nice, their products are so outstanding, and always use them both. Sorry again. Mike in Douglasville.

I don't think its been too long ago. I am really surprised by this as well. This is a super looking, scale, great flying Cub. All I can think is that they must have another updated 1/4 scale J-3 in the works. I know it wasn't discontinued because of sales. How do you top this J-3 ARF though? (As far a 1/4 scale Cub ARF's go)

I think the Hanger 9 J3 was discontinued in favor of the Super Cub. People seemed more interested in the super cub and were even often converting the J3 into Super Cubs, so maybe that's why they did it.......? I guess they are devoting their production time and money into Super Cubs only in response to what they perceive as market trends. It's a shame. The J3 is classic and fun.

I have the Super Cub and I would still like to buy the J3 . I waited too long. I really did not expect it to be discontinued . They should give us a warning , a year in advance .

I bought one when they first came out. I have owned the 1st version (100"), 2nd version (100"), and the most recent version (1/4 scale 106"). The 1/4 scale J-3 they produced is awesome as you guys know.
They will have to re-produce it soon I'll bet. I am emailing them to say they need to get the J-3 back into stock and I would be a buyer!
I love J-3 yellow Cubs. Super cubs are ok, but they do not replace the J-3???
My opinion of course.

I looked all over for the 1/4 scale J3 Cub and found one at Chief Aircraft, every place I looked they were out of stock. I like the Super cub but really wanted the J3. I hate when they discontinue an item with no warning...

Hey,
I love my 1/4 scale cub by Hg 9..Flys right on the money.I used my saito 1.8 and it balanced out beautiful and flys at 4 to 5 clicks and looks incredible scale..I put floats on in the fall but wont fly off water til this spring. The Cubs are made for water and that is why I bought it.Been flying off water for 15 years.I just purchased Hg9 Beaver, beautiful piece of work..By the way,the sound of the Saito even makes the Cub feel like the real deal. You cant go wrong----remember its all in the set up..
Good Luck
